Soooooo, how does this work?

I mean, in order to acces my own profile data on GT.com I need to sign-in to PSN with my username and password, which both should be secret.

How can this application/site communicate with GT5 database without me entering username/password and access my in-game details in real-time without me providing it/allowing it?

Anybody care to explain?

Well, I suppose it's just like viewing someone else's profile.

In granturismo.com, you can access your gifts, log, messages etc. and edit them. This is why you need your PSN login details.

In this gamer tag, you can't access any of these things.

This is how I think it works. 👍

Probably the same way your friends see your game progress etc...

Edit: It would appear as though I have been beaten to it in more detail too.

Can't copy the code with my iPhone, sent it to PhotoBucket

I assume it doesn't automatically update, as it's just an image...

On GT.com, friends can see other friends' profile information by visiting:
https://us.gran-turismo.com/us/gt5/user/<insertFriendID(case sensitive)>/#profile.
The only problem with this, is that you are required to log in, and are limited to viewing the profile of users on your friends list. Otherwise, when attempting to view an account that isn't a friend of yours you get:
You cannot view the My Home pages of players who are not your friends.
If you wish to view this player's My Home page, you'll need to send them a friend request from your PlayStation®3 system. Once they have accepted your request, you will be able to sign in here again and view their My Home page.

From what I can gather, they've got either a master account which allows them to view ALL profile information (unlikely), or they've circumvented the "friends see friends" rule (likely). It's probably the latter, and I'm attempting to find out how.

Doubt it, the information is openly available on GT's servers. All GC.co.uk is doing is scraping a page for info. Not illegal.

I don't know, it is not that simple from my perspective.

All that site asks is my on-screen PSN ID. When I provide my PSN ID, it somehow collects all my recent player data and displays it. I can also enter anyone else PSN ID - as long as I know it - and get his details.

I am curious how this site bypasses two pieces of data that I - and each and every user too - have to provide when I want to see all that info by myself - my PSN username (e-mail) and my PSN password, needed to login on GT.com database.

Also, I am curious how they got the privilege to access - and share to be honest, since my player data should be visible to me and my friends only - data that is not really part of the PSN network but part of the GT.com servers - which are run by PD as I think.

I don't know. Although I understand how this feature is welcomed by many, I see something that is related to data-sharing which I am not comfortable with.

If by data sharing, you mean the account email and password, I can assure you those are not shared.
The reason they ask for the PSN ID case sensitively, is because that is how it is archived on GT.com. Specifically, for example, visiting
https://us.gran-turismo.com/us/gt5/user/Abread/#profile works while
https://us.gran-turismo.com/us/gt5/user/abread/#profile doesn't.

You probably are right to be concerned about this information being shared, though. Since the official account page is restricted to users who are friends, the information is not open to the public initially.

While I still believe nothing illegal is being done, I suppose you have the right to know how/why information can be scraped easily. If it concerns you enough, I suppose you could contact PD or GamerCards for more information.

Wow. Its great to see so many of you create one. I'm the coder at gamercards.co.uk :)

First of all I would just like to say that there isn't any hacking going on to display your data from the GT servers. While the gran-turismo.com profile pages only let you view your friend's profiles (Because of the wall/mail features). The API data the site uses, lets you view anyone's stats. Everything we pull from this API is shown on the card. So that means there's no personal infomation like your friends/cars/tracks/photos (these data API's are only viewable by the logged in person's friends) and defiantly no psn account information. I hope I cleared that up 👍

Thanks for all the appreciation. If theres any problems you encounter with the site/card or any suggestions. Let me know ;)

EDIT: I would also like to add that there was a restriction in place. That you had to register to my site before you card automatically updates it self. But I've removed that restriction now. Your cards should update roughly every 12hours.
