Civil libertarians would cry foul. No, if he's not executed he will be a constant thorn in his victim's side. I should state that I oppose the death penalty. Whatever this guy gets, it won't be enough, whatever his treatment, it may not be enough, not because you can never make up for the loss, which may be true, but because some "jerk" will decry everything.
Even refusing to let him have salt with his rice would be seen as cruel, probably.
I think the best thing is to find someway to make him a distant, soon to be forgotten, memory to show him he means ****. But people want to know, so he may win for losing.
