Yes, so it's a blatant abuse of my moderator privileges, but...
GTP veterans will remember that I run a free to enter Fantasy F1 game, and finally - after much stressing to get the free time to make the 2008 revisions - I've managed to get it all ready to go.
2007 was a season of upsets, with double world champion Fernando Alonso markedly not dominating his rookie team-mate Lewis Hamilton. It ended in a spectacularly ugly fashion, with Alonso fleeing for the sanctuary of Renault, and a whole load of in-public laundering. That was the second most significant thing to happen to McLaren though. After their designer Mike Coughlan received a dossier from Ferrari's Nigel Stepney, and then - displaying a spectacular lack of common sense - sent it to the local copy shop for duplication, McLaren were charged with cheating, and excluded from 2007, which is why you'll find them at the bottom of the lists for 2008. Meanwhile, the McLaren was quick and reliable, just like the Ferrari, and it was eventually the red car of Kimi Raikkonen who took the title.
2008 sees some reasonable rules stability, with a common engine control unit the biggest change, ending traction control and other sorts of things that made the cars faster without really contributing much to the spectacle. Kovalainen should be nurtured at McLaren, Ralf Schumacher has finally seen sense and minced off to DTM, and ChampCar's star Sebastien Bourdais comes to Toro Rosso. Timo Glock joins Toyota for his second stab at F1, and there's another famous son, in Nelsinho Piquet. Spyker (nee Midland nee Jordan) has mutated to become Force India.
So, the F1 teams have spent all winter pounding round deserted race tracks. All that's needed now is for your good self to come along to the site and enter your team for the 2008 contest.
Entry is still free. You need to register your team by 11.59pm GMT on Thursday 13th March 2008.
Good luck!
