GM Executive Bins the Pace Car on the Opening Lap of the Detroit Grand Prix

It rained earlier? It was not wet but the track was green I suppose. Still embarrassing though.

Agreed but have to go easy on the guy.
That Vette has more horsepower than the Indy cars behind him, and he was probably running the 335 Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Still looks like that bump broke the rear end loose.

I have a video of me doing almost exactly the same thing (back end going light over a crest in a turn), only in a Nissan GT-R, at Thruxton, and at 111mph...

... and I caught it. And scared the living crap out of the instructor.

"Okay, well, we're going in at the end of this lap"

Crashing the hottest new car at a race on the doorstep of the company that pays his wages must be really embarrassing for the dude. I don't think he'll be invited by Indycar to do any pace laps again after that.

That crash is one of the most astonishing screw-ups I've ever seen.

Nice reminder that even experienced drivers can blow it.

I'm reminded (unfortunately) of dropping a company car in a ditch in my early 20s. One of my least proud moments. Not much damage to the car, but much damage to my ego.
