Not sure if it is discussed before: On the japanese site the night racing trailer has the addition VOL.2 to its title. See here. I don't remember seeing a trailer with VOL.1, or could this be the trailer shown at last year's E3?

Yes, E3 2009 was the original GT5 concept video, this nights trailer is concept video vol 2.

Thanks, let's hope the wait for VOL.3 will not be as long as the time between VOL.1 and VOL.2. :sly:

And the road went under a raised railway line (I think it was a railway line anyway, that or an overpass).

Is this Seattle Circuit?

I'm thinking that the game's pretty much done now and they're probably just waiting for the right time to make their move.

Your point just underscored the need for same-platform competition for this thing, just to give PD/Sony a boot in the ass if nothing else.

Perhaps the rumored new game reveal next month (see other thread) will do the trick.

Kaz doesn't compete with other games. The real competitor was Forza 3, and it's been out for months now. Besides, if you guys have read the boards closely lately, the consensus among many of us is that for once - well, for twice, Kaz isn't the one holding up GT5. The first delay happened when a year or more ago, SONY ordered Kaz to produce GT PSP first. The second delay is possibly one or a combo of these things:
  • Making GT5 compatible with 3DTVs
  • SONY marketing delaying GT5 till summer/fall for bigger initial sales - which is actually rather stupid if you think about it
  • Begging from other developers such as Sqeenix and Santa Monica Studios so that games like FF XIII and GOW III won't be overshadowed
  • Other possibilities, such as Porsche licensing becoming available
But no, the real competition for Kazunori sensei is real life motorsports, and his dream vision.

Forza Motorsport 3 was the best thing for Gran Turismo 5. I bet we'll see quite a few borrowed concepts. Yes, you know what I am referring to.

Autoweek Sema 09 interview when KY was asked about driver aids he casually mentioned something about gameplay reverse among other things.

Curious..

Are you talking about Grid's rewind feature?

No. That would be a step back. Or maybe ten steps.

What Gran Turismo can and WILL borrow is the concept of "owning" the cars in the game. Sure, in past GT titles we've owned many cars and had them in our garage, but still, they weren't OURS. We couldn't do much to make them our own.

In FM3, (though I haven't played more than twice), you can put your own stylistic qualities into your ride (i.e. liveries, customizing, tuning). When Kazunori goes to these car shows, he sees this in the participants' cars and I think it's time he adds it to his videogames. And he should. I believe he will.

So, as you see: Gran Turismo progresses from a great driving simulator (without ever abandoning it) into another world, a world of "owning", and not just collecting the cars. This further bonds car and driver.

I hope not.

Why not? In FM3 if you use it your time will be marked so there will be no cheating there. I honestly don't see why everyone is against it. First of all you don't have to use it and secondly it will surely be disabled for multilayer.
For example, I still can't take the carousel at The Ring properly, instead of having to go back around or turn around, I can just rewind and practice that corner.

Rewind is fine in like a free lap mode. Time trials and races should not have a rewind feature though.

I think it would be better though if you could choose to run a certain part of track as a selected mini course and you can solely practice that part over and over

You'd have to drive back to the start anyway so that wouldn't help much.

Fair, but perfecting just one single corner of a track won't make you any faster if you screw up the rest of the lap. ;) I'm just saying that the best way to practice is get your car, with no oponents, no bothering and just drive that whole track, sometime you'll take the carousel, and almost every other corner in the right way, your skills will be improved, not just a particular section of a particular track, that's what makes you evolve as a driver. ;)

In my opinion, the ring is to be enjoyed, I took almost 8 minutes to cross it using a camaro SS 69 in GT4, and the car was stuck at 200kph in the straights, but it was always a remarkable experience. You don't need to go fast to learn a track, you just need to love it. :D

After playing F3 and using the rewind feature to avoid some truly race ending crashes (be them my or the AI's fault), I'm actually leaning towards welcoming it to the GT series.

I used to be against it, thinking it would ruin the simulation aspect, but then I remembered that this is a videogame, and anything that helps to make the experience more enjoyable (read: not restarting a 12 hour enduro) is an addition I don't mind.

I'm half inclined to believe that had Gran Turismo introduced that feature before GRiD, or Forza Motorsport 3, majority of the naysayers would jump all over it because GT had it first. It's a game, and yes you do have your preferences...but to seemingly protest a feature (that you simply do not have to use, by the way) as if someone was going to lunge a poisonous dart into your neck is just ridiculous.

I suppose I should start a group named "No upgrades for race cars." you know, considering their specifications are bound by FIA regulations...

Agree'd.

I'm of the mindset that it's better to include a feature with the ability to turn it off/not use it rather than not have the feature at all.

Yeah, I guess rewind is welcome for me now. After all GT has the longest endurance race in the racing game history.

I never felt the need to visually modify the car, to feel more connected to it. Every car in my garage has a history of its own, be it real world history, or history as far as some cool races I had with them in the game are concerned, all those things made me feel connected to those cars.

But on the other hand I was missing certain cars in the GT series, like the 1997 Audi A4 Quattro BTCC race car. So in case GT5 features a livery editor, I will try to recreate the Audi (using the Audi S4 '98 that will hopefully be in GT5, like it was in GT4 and GT PSP) and several other cars.

English is not my mothers tongue, but I hope you understand what Iam trying to say.

Yes, I understand you. And if Gran Turismo 5 helps ONE man relive his youth by allowing him to recreate his teenage car, then a livery editor is a huge success.

Indeed, but to be frank I want a decent rim shop, and maybe add some spoilers and skirts, this level of customization you're suggesting demands the inclusion of custom pics to make decals and things like that, It would be cool, although I wouldn't spend too much time on that. However, the same rule applied to rewind in my opinion applies to the livery editor too, I would like to have, I probably won't use, but a lot of players would love it, so bring it PD. 👍

Options, they're responsible for making of a game a true success or a complete crash-burn. :sly:

What I bolded is what I believe GT Auto will deliver. It will probably make GT4's GT Auto look like a bakery.

Do you feel the same way about adding rewind to other games?

For example why not add rewind to Fifa 10 so if the computer gets a lucky goal in the last 2 mins I can just rewind instead of playing the whole game again.

Why not add rewind to God of War III so if I Die I dont have to go back to the last checkpoint.....I can just rewind instead.

Rewind is cheating.

I'm sure it does suck if you loose a race because the AI bumps you off the track at the last corner......but that's the game your playing. If your just going to rewind time to 'put right what once went wrong' every time something happens then why the hell play the game at all?

Just my opinion.
