Going back to GT3 after GT4.

I'll confess I didn't search before posting: But I've seen so little activity in this forum...
Anyway, I got this wild hair and booted up GT3 for kicks and giggles.
I remember a time way in the past that MR P. and other "fast company" were running at Cote d'Azur in JGTC cars, Specifically the Calsonic Skyline.(arcade mode)
They were pulling down about 1'30'xxx times.
At that time If I pulled down a time w/in 5 seconds of that I was really moving, for me.
Today, I pulled within 2 seconds of 1'30 (thanks to some friends sending fast replays, and following them around, back in the day) and I got curious.
I ran the "hard" race in arcade mode several times with a variety of cars. and a variety of results.
I used to think that it didn't really matter what you drove. The nut behind the wheel was the important thing.
I drove both Supras, one of the NSX's and the Calsonic Skyline.
I have found that the Arcade Supras while really close in performance to the Skyline, are a tiny bit faster all the way round. I pulled a 1'31'mid.

Anyone else experience this kind of "phenomena" with ANY cars?
 
It's a lot of things: the driver, the car itself, your suspension settings, the way you attack corners. I think personally a Supra is not as "safe" to drive around Cote as a Skyline, but the Supra can be faster if your steering is on target. Skylines understeer, which is death at a track full of tight corners. If you can control a Supra (or Viper, or NSX...) it's totally possible to out-do your Skyline times.

i never realized how much the physics have changed between gt4 and gt3. i played gt3 a few days ago and i was like s**t. i kind of enjoyed the experience.

p.s. 2 player mode is more fun in gt3
 
For arcade mode cars (not my cars, used in arcade mode), I found the Supras to be a touch faster. They seemed to be spot-on, handling wise.
I found the Denso-Sard car to be a bit twitchier than than the Castrol car.
The Arta NSX is stable and does exactly what you expect, but it doesn't feel as quick as the other cars I drove. Curiously, I found the Gillet Vertigo to be nearly a match for the Mazda 787-B. Fifty more horsepower, or slightly tighter gearing would have pulled me past it

i always go back to gran turismo 3, 2 player battle with a mate, save the replay if something happens ( like me crashin ), go into hes view with all the details,and see the steering wheel turn left into my car lol, fun shiz

anyways

everytime i use the calsonic skyline , the castrol supra always kicks my ass for straight line speed. :yuck:
 
Personally I haven't driven any "supercars" yet in GT4...I'm very focused on finishing GT3. To go a bit off topic, I really dig the difference in physics from earlier games (GT1 to 2 to 3) And I'm glad they didn't slack off and make GT4 "easier" than earlier games. Here's my quick synopsis.

GT1: The cars don't always handle 100% to real-life but you gotta admit they did a pretty fine job. Suspension settings make a huge difference in the first game, even on slow cars. It is totally possible to screw up your car's handling if you don't know what you're doing.

GT2: The first thing I noticed was the way manual transmissions shift in GT1 is unrealistic and they did a better job with this in GT2. In the first game, whether you're driving a manual or automatic, any transmission in the first game shifts like an automatic (and doesn't sound like it's truly dis-engaging). In GT2, there is a noticeable pause between shift, clutch uptake, and downshifting when you use a manual. Suspension & driving is a little more realistic in certain cars, too, but the actual suspension settings don't seem to make so much of a difference 👎 Most folks in GT2 want to get suspension settings so they can make faster lap times...it's rare you'll see someone screw up their car because the settings seem watered down from the first game.

I can drive a car at Trial Mountain with max spring rates, for example, and minimal ground clearance. Try this in GT1 and what happens? The car starts bottoming out.

GT3: I've heard people say GT3 sucks because the cars "understeer way too much" but I suspect this is because they never turn off the stability & traction controls. But personally I really like GT3. It may not be 100% realistic, but all the tricks you can employ are 100%: power-oversteer, "steering with the throttle" (I do this a lot in FR cars), feint-motion, trail braking....it's not just drive...brake....drive...you can do all the stuff race drivers & car magazines chat about.

GT4: One of the huge things I noticed about GT4 is they really focused on how a car dives & rolls into corners when braking. GT3 this is largely absent (except on some cars when they're still stock). that's it..I don't feel like typing anymore. :) But you get the picture.

I actually dig the physics engine in both of the latest games.
With the exception of driving in dirt/snow.
I prefer GT3 for "rallying" over GT4.
But GT3 is a lot of fun to go back to when bored with GT4. And arcade mode in GT3 is more fun for me than arcade mode in GT4.
But then GT2 and 3 give you tuning accessability to all your cars. I suppose that GT4 "levels" the playing field somewhat with taking out the massive adjustability of the cars.
I've had to re-configure my DS2 for the way I use it now vs. the way I used it for GT3. But I had to do the same thing last time I fired up GT2.
While I'm a long way out from getting a PS3, I have to say that I hope the DS3, is as ergonomic as the DS and DS2.
People have told me that a wheel is the way to go. But, I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money, considereing the time it takes to set up a wheel each time you use it vs. the amount of play time I get.

I tried a wheel from Mad Katz 2 weeks ago...I couldn't get used to it! I'm so used to analog dual-shock and I'm so QUICK with dual-shock. I had to return the wheel. I exchanged it for a pack of memory cards :D

Hey do cars "fly" down the backstretch at Trial Mountain? You know....like in GT and GT2 they would actually leave the ground and fly especially when drafting?
