Do you feel the GPS Course Creator will spark new/revived interest in GT6?

I imagine it wouldn't be too long after the app comes out that someone figures out how to spoof the GPS function. If they can do it for Ingress, they can do it for a PD app.

It may end up being possible to emulate a phone on the PC, run the app, and then spoof the GPS coordinates to make the track you want. It could be very difficult, but if you really wanted to do it without upgrading your phone it might be possible.

New interest? No, people who didn't care about GT would not care now, would they?
Revived interest? Yes, because it was a feature higly anticipated, and if is a good one, could make the GT Saga unique, once again... but everything we can do, is just wait...

This exactly the reason that made me all excited about Course Maker... If you can plot the points externally like in google maps to make your circuit you would get access to all of the world's racetracks. And gps take elevation cganges too!

They gonna generate a lot of interest, for sure, even fans of other franchises I bet. But you know... waiting SO much never really helps. Sigh....

It will depend to what extent the GT6 app also uses accelerometer or other data. I don't know if that can be spoofed. (I mean, I'm sure it can but I've never seen it done.) I have a couple of lap timing apps on my phone for track days, and I'm not sure but I think that they use the accelerometer in combination with the GPS data to gain greater accuracy.

I would think that what the GT6 app is going for would do a similar thing, but I guess it depends how accurate they want it to be, really. The track day apps log stuff like braking zones, G forces, and top speeds, whereas the GT6 app really only needs the data points of the track. Maybe it doesn't matter if the data points are only +/- 5 metres (numbers pulled entirely from rectum, do not trust).

It will be interesting to see how the app works. I'm not terribly literate with apps and how they're made, but I can see me trying to learn a bit just to understand how this one is put together.

HOWEVER, there is one major thing that should be noted before we all get too excited about this: the one GT6 app that has been made so far, the Beyond the Apex booklet, was iTunes only. Apple devices are spoofable too, but if it's Apple devices only it's going to leave a lot of Android users out in the cold.

Everything I mentioned before is probably still doable, but possibly harder and certainly more necessary for all the Android users who don't want to (or can't) drop a few hundred dollars on an Apple device. You end up with a sizable proportion of users who are then required to emulate and/or hack their way into the system simply to be able to use it at all. Android is a big part of the market these days.

Part of me hopes that Polyphony wouldn't be so silly as to make it iTunes/Apple only, but it's a definite possibility. Be warned.

It won't matter at all. In fact I'm wondering why PD even bothers developing stuff for GT6 now. It's a waste of money for them. Which is a huge shame for us.

I never believed or claimed that they were. I'm well aware that they're not, as the owner of several games where similar things have happened.

I'm just as critical of other companies who do so. For example, Rockstar and their online bollocks in GTA V and the ongoing saga of heists.

Just because lots of people do it, doesn't make it right. If that's not the excuse that you were trying to make for Polyphony, then please explain what you meant to say.

Over-promising and under-delivering shouldn't be a thing, and isn't acceptable from anyone.
I never said it was. People are just acting like PD can do no right anymore. And it's those people who instead of moving on to something that does keep them happy, decide to hang around here and troll this section with extreme negativity towards PD. And I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of reading it.

If i get some hundreds to burn they'll go torwards a T300RS so i can sell my old DFGT and be ready on PS4, not some overpriced I-Thing... In that case i hope we would be able to share the tracks online!

Go ahead and name the troll then.

I don't want people trolling any more than you do, as it makes the forums unpleasant for a lot of people and tends to degrade conversations such that any points made, positive or negative, become willy waving contests. Name them, and I'll go right along and report them with you because I don't want to see trolls in the GT6 forums.

You originally replied to this:

Maybe it will, maybe it won't, it all depends on how well detailed the Course Maker is and how much freedom it gives to the players. If it's not any different other than having a "GPS" feature adding alongside it, I doubt it'll gain many players interests to playing GT6 again (except for those who still play the game, but how long until he or she saids "I'm bored" after using it a few days?) Knowing PD, I feel this feature is not going to be any good, since their focus on the fans has been minimum lately (don't quote me). Also, if PD plans on releasing it around pCARS's release, they shouldn't. Especially if the Course Maker, as I said before, lacks to give players the freedom they need to create tracks (maybe the GPS feature may do it justice, but that's for the app).

For me, it's pretty much too late.

Which hardly seems like a troll to me. It addresses the question in the OP and adds the poster's opinion. It's not rude, aggressive, or otherwise disruptive.

Some people around here forget why they are here in the first place, because they loved GT. Now they spend their time here as keyboard warriors telling others how they think one of the most successful companies in the history of video games should do their job, knowing absolutely zero about what goes on in the PD offices on a daily basis.

You decided to take issue with people not loving GT, on the basis of almost nothing at all as far as I can tell. I decided to call you on it, and you're now justifying it as necessary to prevent trolls?

Seriously. Just admit that you took a cheap shot that wasn't really justified. I don't see anything in the two pages of this thread that would qualify as trolling or even serious negativity, considering that it is a thread about the course maker and we have been waiting 14 months. A reasonable sized group of people have fairly low expectations of what the feature will be and the impact it will have, based in part on their recent experience with PD products, and they're saying as much. You can hardly label people as trolls for calling a spade a spade, or sharing their opinion when asked.

People are remarkably chill, apart from you feeling the need to stress that people should be here because they love GT, and then trying to defend PD's faults as though those faults being common among developers are an extenuating circumstance.

You can do whatever you like, but if you continue to insist that people must remember to be positive I'm going to keep reminding you that people are entitled to any opinion they care to express, as long as it's done so politely and within the AUP.

If the mods or community deems this thread unnecessary, feel free to merge/lock/delete it. I just wanted to get a feel for what others think about a question I've been thinking about, which is: If/When the GPS Course Creator is released (B-Spec as well), do you think interest in GT6 will rise again and more favorable opinions of the game will be formed? Or do you think that it will be too late to affect interest/opinion on the game? Please keep the discussion civil, I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything; my very first video game was Gran Turismo 3 and I love the series to death, but now its position in the current market is debatable as well as its future, and I want to know what others think about this critical and often-cited feature of the game in relation to extending/renewing GT6's and the series' lifespan and interest from the public.

Me personally, I think it will be a cool feature, but my interest in GT6 has dropped due to the game itself and my opinions of it and the fact that I am much busier now in life. I play it very infrequently only to take photos nowadays; the lighting and car models still amaze me, especially how they can be compared to next-gen game graphics in some respects.
The sooner the better for everybody!

If the GPS Course Creator is released, it will obviously generate more interest in my opinion. Although that we have been waiting for a course maker over a year, It's not still late to get back to GT6 and try the Course Maker.

If the GPS Course Maker Comes to GT6, I'll be very happy and be able to recreate some of tracks which I had created in GT5! :D

Just like I have been. Apples to apples, oranges to oranges.

Have a nice day sir.

Sadly I don't think this course creator update will ever happen. PD is just rolling with these VGTs and that seems to be about it anymore, which is fine. I would have loved to have had a course creator for GT6 but after watching my PS3 struggle with the Zahara track I don't want to thrash my old PS3 anymore than I have to. PD pushed the PS3 about as far as it can go, I think it's time to move on to some new, slightly more modern hardware.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: It definitely won't be responsible for a massive shift in the perception of GT6. That ship has sailed. The casuals that bought the game closer to release have likely moved on. There are some folks who've moved on to the next generation, with other, newer racing games (though I'd like to point out, whenever I do make that same jump, I for one won't be ditching my older console(s) ;) ). The people who will likely be very excited by this will be the hardcore fans, I'd imagine the folks that are largely unlikely to not buy GT7 on Day 1 without question. Perhaps it'll make a splash for those who've not yet moved to the new generation, yet still haven't bought GT6. This could be the tipping point for their purchase, but I can't imagine that'll account for a huge bump in sales.

I'll readily admit a course maker, especially one as feature-rich as PD has lead on, will bring me back to playing the game more, but it's going to have to be very well resolved to justify the 15+ month wait. But I'm part of a minority. The important thing for PD to take into consideration is the further tarnishing of their brand value if they don't release the features at all over the course of GT6's lifespan. Even if they advertise they'll come ("soon"?) to GT7, it wouldn't be unfair for both fans and the media to not trust them, if they completely fail to provide them for the game they originally advertised them for.

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about other people's intentions regarding this game or any other, I'll leave that to those who feel they're more qualified.

However, I know that Ronda alone will revitalise my GT6 experience substantially. What the creator brings is only a bonus, for me.

Combine that with a conversion to CFW, and my second biggest item in need of rejuvenation - sound - is also solved; then I'll be golden.

Way too late, and to be honest i think it will disappoint even those who still play the game.
If you want a SINGLE feature to make people say ''wow awesome i NEED to play gt6 for that'' you need an incredible, innovative one.
Looking at gt6 i'm unable to believe that pd have something that great... i mean, the next big thing are paintable wings, another tiny step to a better customization, and we expect an incredible gps thing?
I'm not a pd hater but... seriously, how?

I'm one of those hardcore GT fans... or at least I was, since this definitely doesn't spark my interest in the game anymore.

The only way that GT can bring me back is returning the game to its roots by remaking the game from scratch; A.K.A GT7. For that they would need to remake the whole car list (no more reps, no more leaving out important models that other games do have), get rid of standards, improve customization (tire size and width, exhaust tips, full color wheel option, livery editor. No excuses since there are a lot of games that do this even back in the PS2 era), SOUNDS (nothing less than what Forza does is acceptable) a larger classic-GT-style career mode, no ridiculous car prices (nothing above 3,000,000), no more restrictive prize systems (this is our game and we paid for it to enjoy it), better A.I, a much better and fully customizable Arcade mode, no new-gen micro-transactions, day-one DLC, early access and online B.S (online is good, but single player off-line should be always the priority as in classic games), no more external projects or experimental nonsense. And last, this course maker.

And of course, keep those wonderful features that other games don't have, like physics, time and weather change and graphics.

I'm afraid this might've been my last GT, because I don't see this happening...

Since we know little about the new Course Maker, it would be a bit hard to answer this question. If the GT6 Course Maker includes the large area that is rumored to be about 8 times bigger than the Nurburgring, the environment around the tracks are detailed, and we can make the track length as long as we want to, then I think it'll generate enough interest for people who already own the game to play it more regularly. If it's pretty much the same as the GT5 Course Maker, except with the GPS feature added, then it'll get old pretty quickly.
