Gran Turismo 1 Videos

I know what you mean, I had this happening to me one time, but I stupidly forgot to save the replay
Another jump @SSR11; too bad you can't fall out of the track, by the way:

Jump: starting @ 0:30

Something weird happed to me on GT2 similar to what you said at SSR11, but on GT2 it was Laguna Seca in one of the Endurance races & I smashed into the corkscrew so hard it flung me in the air & I went from leading the race by a good margin to something like 10 laps behind & in 5th place.
Couldn't figure it out for the life of me!

Anyway, I uploaded another GT Video! :)
This time out I use the Demio again but for the Lightweight Championship as I try & save up some cash to get other vehicles for different events.

Demios just rock! :)

IRL i'd definitely go for the NSX-R heh
NSX-R[...]

Good to see there are some NSX aficionados here :)
I don't know what I'd choose. 10 years ago I was regularly driving a C3 'Vette from '82 that my uncle had... With "only 300hp", but it was great. That torque. That sound. That was a bit magic I must say. The NSX is so technically interesting and iconic... The 'Vette is so iconic and... Fun. :)

And between a GTO and a NSX? What would you pick up?

I've fallen behind. :( Been busy. But it's good, a lot of new material to watch. :)

Mouc schools the GT World Cup again in his Accord. That Lancer petrification is hilarious. That's cool to have a list of cars from worst to best. Watching your Accord understeer had me cringing sometimes!

Mouc 2 --, It's actually a 3 way battle: Corvette, NSX, and RX-7! That's the sort of stuff I live for in GT. I'd choose the Corvette over the NSX. I enjoy both cars in later games, but in the first game the NSX handles like a mess. Nothing at all like real NSXes are described as. The Corvette mostly understeers into turns, and oversteers out of them. It is more predictable. I'd rather have that (and the choice to influence this car's handling via tuning) than an out-of-control abomination of a mid-engine auto.

evanzo7 goes for the Demio A-spec. Wow, you're destroying those others at Deep Forest in those turns. The competition catches up down those straights (my favorite kind of racing) but again you know how to handle them in the turns. What tires are you using? UH oh. Lost at Grand Valley East. ZERO credits for 4th place? Wow, this game's harsher than I remember. ... Nice job winning Route 11.

Why do none of you drivers qualify, by the way?

Never mind. Grayfox qualifies. I used to always qualify back when I played this game!

I have to catch up to everyone else's... But

I never had a fully tuned NSX in game think i had a stock one on one of my earlier game plays.
Last time I played GT1(was about 2 years ago) I just did the prize car only game play so I didn't touch wither the vette or NSX as I never won them.

The GTO was very quick but take off was horrid with RPM dropping down to 3000rpm on launch.
The NSX was too pricey in game for my liking, over 100,000cr

GT1 and GT2 did the NSX no favors due to the weird physics with MR cars.

Yes, the first game could be really harsh with launches. I remember the SVX would dip way down to 2000 off the line, which required a full-customized box to fix.

Here is my latest video, and it's a good one. Check out the last lap especially -- I am amazed I managed to pull that win. I was in the process of learning out to out-corner the game.

Sadly, I am running out of GT1 vids. :( I checked all my memory cards from back in the day, and there are maybe only 1 or 2 which I haven't posted yet. Good news is, I have plenty of GT2 videos as well, and I'll start posting them in the appropriate section soon.

Hmm. If I wanted challenge I'd go with the NSX. If I wanted an easier race then it'd be the GTO. The GTO handles like a pig in a hogsty, but this can be improved through tuning at least. From what I remember, the NSX always handled like a wet noodle, no matter which tuning / tires I chose.

That's the point, with that Accord. As it's heavy and doesn't have so much torque, if you get mistaken by this understeering you're dead
[...]Why do none of you drivers qualify, by the way?
I don't qualify with low cars, the AI's always 5 seconds faster than me (or even more)
[...]Check out the last lap especially -- I am amazed I managed to pull that win
Can I use this sentence again, please? Here's a FD RX-7 battle. The RZ (best of the RX-7 range to me) versus the A-Spec, which is for me the hardest car to control in the game. Way harder than any of the NSXes ;) . Maybe because it just doesn't have downforce? Or that super-peaky power? Don't know, but even the Cosmo 13B is a better ride, for me!

[...]Sadly, I am running out of GT1 vids. :(
Time to start a new career  :D

I should restart a GT career again, right? Honestly, watching all these videos has whetted my appetite. :dopey: Hey, I can even video some Spot Races and the Sunday Cup (if they are worthy of filming).

Whoa look at that RX-7. I've nver seen that one before. That must be the A-spec then. That's a great-looking automobile. And I can see what you mean. It looks hard to control.

You took that first S-turn cleanly. :) Barely any sliding. But uh oh, that A-spec is bouncing all over the place. Cool, another 3-way battle, this time two RX-7s and an NSX. I forgot this game has some close racing like this.

Very nice final move into the hairpin!!! Mouc takes the lead!! Yeah, I have to start playing this game again, I think. Maybe tonight.

Again, what a fantastic finish there!

Keisuke Takahashi has not come across the likes of Mouc, apparently.

I did start a GT game last night, and did all the B licenses. :) Golded B1 and B2, and also amazed myself by golding the final try, the MX-5 at High Speed Ring. Got silver in the rest of them.

One thing which is really wacky in this game is steering. I've been playing GT5 and sometimes GT6 for the last decade. There are moments when full steering lock must be used, especially during some super-tight turns like hairpins and chicanes, and especially for front-drives. You steer and steer, and in a lot of cases there's some massive understeer to overcome, so you gotta wait until the turn starts to straighten before the front end is straightened.

Well in the first GT, full steering lock almost seems to guarantee heading towards the inside way too easily! I had trouble getting used to this. Basically as I did several spot races, I needed to keep using partial steering.

Here's my first race in GT, probably since 2004! I did manage to win... I've always had Beginner's Luck. :gtpflag:During subsequent tries, especially at Grand Valley East, I lost race after race, but probably because my CR-X needs some better power / parts.

This guy needs to have a fart. Looks like he's got a huge stomach ache.

Today's a great day. This thread is not about to die! :D
And congratulations for the B License. It's the only one I can "gold" entirely... :(

 (and that's cool, makes it very special)

Another very close finish, if you dare to go until the very end: the "low" Mitsu FTO (328hp, still, and great handling), against the eternal (who said "boring"?) GTO Twin Turbo:

Grand Valley was fun, also.

Hey Mouc, thanks for encouraging me. I am doing more Spot Races now. I totally forgot how addicting this first game is. Barely making any money at all, but I keep doing race after race. This is what I remember way back in 2003. I'd rush home from work and then do race after race after race, sometimes. Phew.

I shall check your latest video tomorrow!

Wow, that is impressive... Perfect slide, lines...
After the NSX, RX-7 time?
Okay. I spent a few hours with the A-Spec, and finally found "my way" to drive it almost properly. I shall not enter a corner at more than 100mph (160km/h). So here's a successful Tuned Cup with a red A-Spec, Grand Valley II is almost not bad... :)

Also found this on YT, an episode of "Best Motoring" where the RX-7 RZ II is also very fast. Look at all the cars around in this, you could believe it's a prequel of Gran Turismo :)

tankuroded -- interesting. Did Mikail gold that test? I assume so.

Mouc, yes, any time I watch some Japanese car racing from back in those days it looks like a GT replay, especially if it's at Suzuka or Tsukuba. There are a lot of Kei car races (tons of them) including Kei car drifting competitions, online. Those are funny to watch. Now I know why there are so many Keis in GT2 and later games.

Congrats on defeating the Tuned Car Cup. Looks like you are qualifying this time, I notice you aren't starting 6th every race. Your A-spec seems overpowered this time. :gtpflag: Whoa... not at Grand Valley II. That Supra's keeping up! :scared: I agree you are driving that wild car like an expert! I love watching that Renesis-powered car slide through GV's hairpin.

Hmmmm... I must confess that I have some sort of a crush for these lil' Kei cars... The legendary Honda City Turbo has always been something important, for me :D

Thank you very much, but I'm far to be an expert, as I often need to qualify for the Tuned Cup.
Submaniac or Sough would lap that Grand Valley II in 1min36s or less, with that A-Spec I'm sure
But, I nailed yesterday eve' all Supra RZ, R33 GT-R and GTO TT @MegaCup :) :

Take a look at the NSX's crash and Cosmo's flight (!) during Test Course, starting from 2:20 ;)

It also lands can carries on like nothing ever happened.
Oddly enough the Cosmo is normally a good performer in the mega speed cup.
It sucks on HSR, but gets upto 2nd at times on test course.

Maybe slightly relevant to this thread:

This is even more impressive than taking a WR IMO. In the World Tour events they often play older GT games, and Hizal got gold in one try

I've seen him hold WR in several Driveclub tracks as well, and he was beating Colin Mcrae challenges in DR2 after just a few minutes practice. This guy is fast in any game, and most impressively fast with little to no practice. Truly a special talent 👍

I still can't win the UK vs Japan Series with a Eunos Roadster, but I managed to do it with a used Civic Sedan :)
With the turbo stage 1, and gears ratios inspired by the Super-Close gearbox, this ride is quite incredible, for an 1.6 Liters family car!
And the racing livery is fantastic, to me :)

I never thought anything else ;)
By the way, if Tsuchiya drove it in real life, it must have been quite a great car!

What an incredible find, submaniac. That livery matches up perfectly, which can't be coincidence.

I find that at certain levels of racing, front-drives are easier to win with than rear-drives. As long as power is below 300 hp or so, sometimes it's the Honda which will win more easily. Anyway cool, I have some racing to watch next lunch break.

Here is my next GT video.

With these early Spot Races, the Ai definitely seems to rubber-band itself heavily. I notice after qualifying sessions that everybody was +2 seconds faster than my CR-X. During the actual race, they seem to be hampering themselves, even down straight areas. I won the above race in my 158 horsepower Honda by simply drafting the leading Mitsubishi down the main straight, for instance.

Rubberbanding is quite infamous in GT1 :(
Reason why I really appreciate the World Cup, the Tuned and the Normal Cup: those are the three series where it's not "too much", I find.

Today's special: the turbo stage 3 Toyota Soarer 2.5L GT-T against the World Cup. Just because nobody loves you when you drive a Soarer.

@Parnelli Bone you're thinking backwards heh
The Advan Civic raced in the Japanese Touring Car Championship in 1995 and was the inspiration for the race mod in GT1. Many, many racing modifications in GT1 and 2 were inspired by actual race cars. The more i find about them (and i have many photos) the more i love those games :>

Also, Boat-arer is a fast boat but i still like it

submaniac-- I know the car in GT is inspired by the one from JTCC, not the other way around. I just am amazed you managed to find a pic which proves this. :)

mouc-- Hey, slow down! I still haven't watched your previous video!

The rubberbanding of GT and GT2 is nowhere near the rubberbanding of GT6. In 6, the game continues to rubber-band us even as we're deep into advanced racing. I stopped playing GT6 after entering a 160 horsepower Kei car against a race full of Skylines, NSXes and so on. Despite my low power, I was defeating these guys in straight sections. If we pass some car in GT6, they'll fight us for awhile, but then they'll give up and fall waaaay behind. Which is annoying to me. I want more challenge! I have heard GT Sport is also like this. If GT7 continues to pander to the n00bs out there, I won't be getting that game, sadly.

Sweet! Ha ha there's even a Demio race car. This means PD have been including this slug all along for a reason. ;)

Mouc -- why does nobody like you when you drive a Soarer? Maybe you are talking about the other drivers. Yeah, they are all giving you a hard time!

Whoa, heavily into redline down the High Speed Ring bank! .. and you guys all fly off the hill at Trial Mountain. Damn. I'm wanting to play some GT now, heh ha. Overall I notice your driving has improved over these past few weeks. In the first vids you posted you'd be making grass-cuts and stuff (I've done it too, it's hard in this game since its steering is so sensitive). But now you're making racing lines much more clean.
