New setup is now.... Set up.

G923 wheel, GT Omega Apex stand, and my standard office chair. Upgraded from the T150 and a wheelstand pro. And a desk fan for that "wind in your hair" sensation 😂😂

What I will say, is that the "wheel rail" on the apex stand is absolutely genius and the main reason I haven't really used my old wheel in a heck of a long time, because my chair or wheelstand just kept moving under any sort of pressure.

And the brake pedal with the G923 is a HUGE upgrade on the old T150 one. Very very pleased.

Also being able to properly mount the pedals is wonderful as well. I've been living in the stone age!!!

Started to miss it, so had a plan to go all out and get a nice cockpit with direct drive wheel, etc. In the end I cheaped out (rather spend that money on other things) so grabbed a G923 on sale for $300, a random China cockpit from Amazon for $300, and the monitor stand to go with it. Found a LG C2 OLED 120Hz 42" TV local for $550 used.

The cockpit is pretty nice, I like the seating position and it's pretty sturdy. But the seat is rock hard and the shoulder bolsters are annoying. Digging the Logitech G923 though with the added vibration and improved brake pedal. Feedback is lackluster in GT7 though, but I blame PD for that.

Shoulder bolsters for sim racing seats needs to END. It's so nonsensical. Sim Racing ergonomics need proper good sim racing seats for sim usage, not pretend IRL seats that are not fit for the purpose. Plus more seats need mounts on the back for speakers, helmet holders, and subwoofers and/or butt kickers.

Still rocking a Playseat Evolution that I bought 12 years ago back in the PS3 GT5 days. I recently upgraded from a G29 to a GT DD Pro so I also upgraded to a NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 that luckily bolts onto the Playseat Evolution frame. I wanted to get the NLR GT seat add on but I read that the recliner on those is weak so I guess I am staying with the Playseat for now. I also like that it doesn’t obstruct the TV or projector screen when it’s folded down and the wheel removed so I don’t even have to move it to the side when it’s time to watch a movie with the wifey

Off topic question maybe, but do you guys ever feel self concious about having a sim racing rig like this at home? Or do you ever get negative reactions?

Idk if "self concious" is necessarily the right word, but it would be so awkward and annoying for me to explain this hobby everytime someone enters my home. Some people think it is weird in general to play videogames at my age, let alone having a setup like this. When I have coworkers over and I have to be like: "yeah, guys, this is my 3k sim racing setup that I spend at least 7 hours a week on trying to get gold medals on Gran Turismo time trials, which earns me 2 million in game credits, which, once I have accumulated 12 million credits, allows me to buy a 1966 Jaguar XJ13 that I have no practical use for" they would probably think that I lost my mind and I would never hear the end of it. You guys don't have this problem?

(Video)games are entertainment and art (some games more or less than others ) like theater, musicals, operas, concerts, movies/series, reading books etc.
Why would entertainment as a hobby be weird?

People that see my wheelstand or sim rig are curious and ask about it; kids try it out, turn the wheel, press the pedals (ha! try pressing the 120KG loadcell brake!) and play/pretend they are driving.

My wife would argue that me having a play room is better than being in the pub 🙈. I have 2 simple set ups now, a PC corner for iRacing and ETS 2 and 1 for PS5 and I couldn't be happier. We are lucky that when our house was recently restored (it's an old post office) we both got our own room to do what we wanted with. I'm 44 and some people do think it's a bit childish but then you let them have a go and they love it 👍👍

I asked a similar question a while back and the feedback was that if you don't have PSVR2 and are looking to spend money, buy that over upgrading to a DD Extreme. They were right.

Now the caveats, if you have no wheel at all, and are on controller then I would get the extreme over the GT DD Pro at this point. If you have a decent DD wheel already it is not worth the upgrade imo. You also need a decent rig to get the benefit from it.

I’ve got my rig tucked next to my desk in our upstairs office/media room. I’m in my 40s and nobody has given me any crap about it. We just had people over for Thanksgiving (live in USA) and folks who knew I had a rig were dying to try it out. Nearly everyone had a go and had fun. When I met my partner a few years ago she thought it was really cool and would sometimes just sit in it to relax and read. When we moved to our new place I was worried I’d have to sell it due to tighter room layouts but she was adamant about making room for it.

Really the only negative is it’s a challenge from a decorative standpoint. It’s tough to integrate in most decors so it really needs a designated spot of its own.

For me, yes. DD Pro felt okay until I started to use bigger and heavier wheels (like the Podium Porsche wheel). Going from DD Pro to DD Extreme felt like going from G29 to DD Pro. The difference is really massive. Right now I have FFB at the base set at 100% and in-game (GT7) at only 4 and the FFB strength feels great

Any 8020 profile cockpit is sturdy, even the cheap ones with profiles from china.
(Judging from the pictures): The designs of some of the zalem cockpits could be limiting (especially for the seat and pedals).
For example the alu pro uses plates at the rear to fix the seat profiles to the base:

This could be problematic with bigger/wider seats. (I have a Sparco Sprint L which is very wide and probably won't fit on the seat profiles)

I am lucky enough to have a house large enough to set up an office man cave. At 62 years of age, I really couldn't give a bucket of figs for what anyone thinks of how I spend my spare time. Those that have made comment, soon change their opinion when they sit in my rig and try it. Everyone of them love it!

My wife is also very supportive of my hobby for various reasons... I am not in the pub drinking. At a football match getting into trouble. Standing at the riverside trying to catch dinner. etc etc.

Trakracer seat brackets and seat slider
Available from many online stores.

Fanatec Clubsport DD+ Clubsport RS wheel with QR2pro and CSL Elite V2 pedals with LC. Fanatec Handbrake.

I made the extended monitor brackets that raise and distance the monitor to, what I believe, the perfect position.

I made the inverted pedal box - That part alone is worth 4/10ths a lap!!! Your feet are in exactly the same position every time - resting on the Fanatec plate.

The cable management needs a little refining but all in all I am delighted with the finished item. It is working too, as you may have seen from my last few Time Trials results. 😎

Started my DIY rig a couple of years ago, all based on 30x60 and 30x30 alu profiles, it was my own design after few weeks of research and brainstorming.
I was happy with it but I have managed to find the time finally to spend the last 3 weekends to do some long overdue upgrades.
I didn't want to buy already made stuff so almost everything put together is coming from bits and pieces I had in the apartment.
not showing off or anything, just hoping it might inspire some of you guys here.
This is the way the whole rig looks like with the seat and seat frame being a legacy of a PLAYSEAT EVOLUTION I had for few years.

so in recent weeks,I started to add a mini keyboard acting as a button box

then a smartphone mounting used with a spare smartphone I had laying around

a slider made for the PLAYSEAT

all of them have been great additions, but these 2 are my favorite now
I have had already 6 bass shakers running through Simhub on the rig, 2 in backseat, 2 under the seat and 2 at the front of the rig but adding this amp and 2 resonance speakers ($20 on aliexpress) is literally a game changer in immersion (yes I know some cable management to be finalized....)
I set wheel slip on the throttle, and wheel lock/ABS on the brake again via Simhub for great haptics effect.

and finally the cherry on the cake, keyboard tray placed under the wheel base.
I had been debating for weeks if I wanted to have it on the side with an arm or indeed under the wheel base.I concluded that the position shown here was the best and oh boy how I was right.
I do game mostly in VR, also 4k desktop sometimes, so its pretty easy to pull the keyboard while in Game, hitting the keys I need to either by memory or using the headset passthrough

the beauty of this very simple and cheap thing is that I can take off my NEO GT rim and use my HOTAS set for simflying by positioning them on the tray itself.
