Weiga-
Have you ever joined one?

I joined a Japanese drift lobby tonight and it was amazing. The track was Tsukuba circuit with 16 people drifting, and I didn't see X1s.. Veryons or FGTs always crashing into my car!
Also a very interesting thing is that Japanese players were more "close" when it comes to drifting, they started the lap and waited for other players on that S curve after the Dunlop tire and then start a line up of 10+ players to begin a lap drift, every single time.

Oh and about the cars? Each one unique with really good paintjobs :)

Those cats are amazing. It's a real pity their isn't a proper English - Japanese website translator online... It sure would be great to have some more on GT Planet

Japanese rooms are awesome always good drifters always curtious and they love a good challenge.

Japanese drifters were the same way on forza 3. Lined up at the same point you said and always waited for everybody...love drifting with the Japanese drifters

yea, normally, Japanese drift servers are pretty good, their skills are always one step higher than average, just like in Forza. But they did have kids crashing around as well, last night i was in a Japanese drift room (host afk) that ruined by a X2010.

I was in one a few weeks back and to be honest the just crashed into walls ans couldn't really drift. I'd love to join one of the proper ones though.

I think it's naive to think that all Japanese players can drift well, but I must admit that the lobbies that I've joined have been brilliant - lots of mic chatter (that I can't understand) and a good vibe generally. Last time, I was drifting my daihatsu van with a Japanese guy who had one the same colour - it was great!

I've been doing this for a while, some of them are really good, while some aren't.

I was doing tandem with this guy at Tsukuba, he later added me, and sent me an R33 GT-R, how nice.

I can understand what you mean, EVERY TIME a Japanese player joins my drift lobby, you just know he's goin' to outclass everyones else, I have yet to see a bad Japanese player, I joined one of their lobbies once, but my connection is too bad to tandem with them unfortunately.

I also agree with you, not all of them are good but it was certainly better than random lobbies around Europe. The "vibe" is surely different with Japanese players, I'll be doing this more often. 👍

IMO, I think it goes in this order -

1. Japanese lobbies
2. European lobbies
3. American lobbies

This is speaking from personal experience.

It doesn't matter what type of lobby it is that makes a great drift lobby, just as long as the drifters can drift in harmony (tandems aren't always possible)

The fact that the Japanese lobbies have such a better atmosphere for drifting is simply because common courtesy and common sense is within all the drifters.

Agreed. 👍

It's called 'Hashiriya' ;)

From my experience (I've joined quite a few Japanese rooms in the hope of finding people who force me to raise my game) I'd say Japan fairly even compared to Europe as far as the proportions of good/bad drift . It's just that, for a start, the proportion of drift/race rooms is higher in Japan than in Europe, so finding rooms is easier, and when you do find a good room, the standard tends to be higher than europe.

I've also had quite a few Japanese guys join rooms I've either started or been participating in, and the ones who join our rooms tend to be not quite as good. I get the feeling they would rather be the best in a European room rather than the worst in a Japanese room. :D

what's funny is.....all the american and european room always got room names such as.
pro drift
pros only
best drifters only

while the japanese rooms are always
beginner drift room (in japanese kanji)
beginner welcome
etc

lol
the japanese are definitely way more subtle than most people

True. One thing I also liked on the Japanese lobbies I was is that when you or anyone spins off the track, they actually stop and wait for you, I've never seen that on a random lobby :)

I do that everytime I spin out actually. I learned from grid where people would spin out jump onto the track an get t-boned.....which on grid permanently destroyed your car....

a little bit of respect towards one another goes a long way

A Japanese guy spun me off yesterday, he tried to say sorry like 4 times, the last he said was "Sowri"

I guess it's close enough. :)

^ hahaha awesome.

What time do you guys see Japanese servers up? I almost never see any, occasionally there will be a "drift tune" or something room with 3 people max. I'm usually on anywhere from 9PM to 3AM PST. and usually the rooms are "difrt proz only," "d1 drift," or "drift/drag/trade/show." haha.

That's why most of the time I try not to even bother with America/etc servers. There's a different frame of mind going on most of the time between the two, just like sai said there's a common courtesy in japanese servers, and a general appreciation/respect for each driver and the cars.

Now that's not to say that every japanese driver is a pro, because they aren't, but they are definately more modest and humble about their driving. And if they're driving well, they don't need a room name to make it apparent.

Alot of people should take note.. or at least I hope so.

Can someone post the kanji for drift please so I know what to look out for? The only japanese drift lobbies I've ever been in have been on Tsukuba, as I know that there's gonna be more chance of me finding a drift room on that track.

And yeah, I've only been in a few japanese drift rooms but I've found all of them to have a chilled, laided back atmosphere and decent, courteous drivers :)

The japanese rooms are excellent. ive been in a few of them, i actually prefer to be in them as their aren't any "try-hards" in x1's or 4wd's. everyone is just having fun

Going to have to write these down. Thank you. 👍

After reading this thread, seeing the comments and all, I totally agree and understand how much more modest Japanese servers tend to be, however I have experienced some times where I would be carrying a good line with someone and after seeing how I drive they start brake checking or running into me..it's only happened twice but I won't let the bad apples spoil the bunch! :)

I generally have 10x + more fun going to the Japanese servers than any others in all honesty. I will do my best as well to take note of the courtesy/respect factor that needs to be implemented on the American servers. 👍 As well as being patient with Americans because a lot of them lack the knowledge of what drifting really is, the history of it, and how much fun it can be. You don't just hop into the car - gas and turn.. - It doesn't really work that way so it's hard to explain "How do you drift" questions when they didn't do their homework! :sly: It's (loosely speaking here) practically in their backyard for the Japanese so generally they have a much more clear understanding of it to grasp the techniques and such.

lol.

I just avoid random drift lobbies if i can help it. Most of the time if join a friends room they'll be drifting with good people.

I've been run off the road by random jackasses one too many times.

Requiring comfort hards also pretty much weeds out everyone who sucks.
