Eh, people will complain even if they had an update full of the latest racers and performance cars. People just like to complain. Gives them something to do between game updates.
People are complaining for a reason. All the sport mode is about race cars. Daily races, manufactures and nations Cup are 95% Gr. Cars races so people want to race modern lmp, hypercars, gt3, gt4, TCR, etc. But instead we have to race 10+ years old, out of date race cars.
To comparison. PD proudly announced partnership with Hyundai. And what we got? An advertising car useless Ionic 5. Meanwhile Forza Motorsport added a bunch of Hyundai's at the same time including a race car.
Simply put players are frustrated, especially they who only play sport mode (me included) because gr cars are basically the only cars they race

That’s only why some people complain. Some people, like myself, also complain because utility vehicles are so far removed from the road cars that usually define Gran Turismo. Remember there was a time before GT Sport and Sport Mode.

I don't see the problem. If you genuinely enjoy racing, then why does it matter what year your car is from?

The problem is that like 90% cars used in sport mode are inherited from GT Sport with only a handful additions. If you play singel player, you'll be happy with cars like Kangoo, Unimog or that latest Toyota but I can't see them be used in online racing and that part of players won't be happy with cars like that

You represent a very small minority, albeit a VERY vocal one. Less than 13% of active Gran Turismo players have ever even entered Sport Mode, let alone focus on it. Most players want a more robust Career Mode (more events, features, etc...), and could give two S#!%$ about the latest GT3 car. Personally, I am a big motorsport fan (I follow F1, WRC, WEC, etc...) so, I am always in the market for race car (although, how NEW it is, is irrelevant to me). However, I am SOOOOOOOO tired of the Sport Mode crowd whining about getting the latest GT3 cars. There are quite a few games that DO have those, and a robust online system for races. Gran Turismo has always been about car culture, more than the latest and greatest shiny new GT Racers. Frankly, I wish GT would have just come out with a new version of GT Sport (for you online only peeps), so the main game could focus on the offline career mode. That's my .02 cents, anyway. Flame Suit Activated.

I'm a sort-of fan of McLaren, and I'd very much enjoy seeing the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in GT7.

Let's say PD adds it. What happens next?

There's no point adding it. There's already a McLaren in Gr3 and Gr4. I'm guessing that will not be a million miles away from how PD think.

The 89 Batmobile still eludes me. Oh why papa Kaz? Why do hate me so?
This is the only batmobile that matters, based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura

This is what I'd like to see....

Okay, but say it was added. What happens next with the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo?

It would be the most used car in dailies for a while.
You've missed a crucial step here which would seem to exclude that.

It's a Gr.3 car. What's the very first thing that happens with Gr.3 cars as they're added to the game, before anyone can even use them?

I will embrace it with open arms, as I do all the cars we get. When i heard about the UNIMOG last month I was mixed in thoughts about it and now I think it's great, so as to go on I will embrace all the unique cars we get as they have all surprised me in what they do.

And when the Merc gt3 ‘20 got added barely anyone used it, eSweats/sport mode players only care about the meta car for a race not the year it was made
Maybe in top lobbies they only use meta car but in lower lobbies is different story. I remember when NSX was added, it was the most used car in dailies even though it wasn't the best car and I'm speaking of AS lobbies

The 2016 AMG (and the 2013 GT-R GT3, after the 2018 one was added) did get "buried" in its BoP to encourage drivers to switch to the newer counterparts. (As a DR D lifer, I often still see some older cars on the grid sometimes.)

Eh, this isn't quite right.

The 2020 AMG is in that same niche as the M6 and the 911 RSR where though it's never the meta it's almost always good, so you'll normally find one or two in most lobbies unless there's a specific OP car that week.

The quote was

in reference to newer models being added, looking at lobbies, races and quali boards wouldn’t agree with that.
Because adding the latest cars doesn’t matter, they’ll be BOP’d and a meta will exist so that’s what gets the majority choice

Some see the arrival of a renewed GT3 grid as a due because these cars are getting old compared to those that race in real life. The reality is that they are only imported relics of GT Sport. If the purpose is e-sport, then everything can make sense from a Morgan Aero Super Sport GT3 '09 to the last Ford Mustang GT3 '24 as long as PD can put both at the same level of performances.

Not to mention that Gr.3 and GT3 are two separate things..

If I were running this company, given the encyclopedic nature of the game, I would pick two : the Bentley Continental GT3 '13 for the sake of variety, and the Maserati Coupe GranSport Light '06 as the first ever homologated GT3 car. This last one would probably end up into Gr.4 despite being a GT3.

By the way, the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 '13 can race (IRL) until December 2026, the GT-R Nismo '18 until December 2030, both Audi R8 LMS '15 and Evo'19 until December 2030, the Porsche 911 RSR (991) '17 until December of this year, the fictional Honda NSX GT3 until December 2028, the Lexus RC F GT3 '17 until December 2030, both AMG-Mercedes GT3 '16 and Evo '20 until December 2029. Nine cars up to date for a single class, not that bad considering the scope of the game which goes from the 20s to present.

I wholeheartedly want PD to prove me wrong, but… I can’t see any new GT race cars being added. We’ve only gotten the GT-R GT3, AMG GT3 and R8 GT3 as the real GT3 cars and a Gr.3 VGT. Gr.4 only got the Suzuki, Genesis, Mazda3(s) and finally, Supra GT4.
PD keep adding road car versions that should include their race car versions, but choose to give us parts to build those race car versions. For esports, PD are using those tuned F40, C7, 996, etc in Nations Cups, aS a draw card, instead of the Gr.4/GT4 cars they used to use for Manufacturer Cups. That’s despite the popularity and success of GT4 that’s being seen around the globe.
Biggest problem is Gr.4 are the hardest to BOP with such a diversity in drivetrain performance.

Maybe the writing is on the wall for the Gr.4 category, as you point out, those old cars can be used as long as they want and PD don’t have to pay for any updated cars. Plus, PD don’t need to use Gr.4 in World Tours at all(I can’t recall when the last time Gr.4 was used in a World Tour).

I just bet the Gr.4 Mazda3 is the last we’ll see for the category. Gr.3? Unless they want to add the one hundredth BMW GT3 to that brand, I just see PD adding a new GT3 car either. I guess I’m finally accepting that reality.

You know that if they added current GT3/4 cars, there's no practicable way for them to be BOP'd against the ones currently in the game, resulting in new Groupings, right? If they tried to, we'd end up with the unbalanced mess that is Group 2 (and to a lesser extent Group 1).

I still feel the BMW VGT would make a great Gr3 Variant but I've noticed aside from VW, all the German manufacturers use IRL GT3 cars for their Gr3 class vehicles which is kinda boring imho

Are we sure that one on the left is a Renault Kangoo? I heard some speculation it could be a Nissan March. Honestly, I'm down either way.

EDIT: And as much as I love the design of the latest Vantage, I think having this one from the late 10s is also splendid, as it'd go along amazingly with its DTM version.
