Edit: As others have pointed out, when Boost is set to 'Weak' Sophy races are so much better. The issues below occur using the default Boost off setting.

Sad to say in my test it looked like the same old rubber banding.

10 laps at Sardegna, hard setting, boost set to off. Random grid.

Span on lap one and went to the back, 10 secs off the lead. Worked my way up to P2 after about 7 laps (too easy!) and then the leader pits for tyres.

Now I’m in the lead the Ferrari in P2 who I flew past a minute ago is noticeably catching, and they do this…

Best first sector by 1.6 seconds?

I stop for fuel and so does the Ferrari. But now in P3 they strangely have no pace again.

The leader in a Ford is easy to catch but then finds extra speed to make a race of it and win. Despite the fact I caught up over 10 secs in less than ten laps.

No doubt others can extract better results from the settings but IMO PD need to (please!) turn off the weird speed up / speed down stuff and just let Sophy lap at a consistent pace.

Watching the Sophy AI struggle to drive some of my RWD Clubman Cup+ cars reminds me of GT5 B-Spec when a driver gets too hot and starts sliding through turns. :lol:
 
Just did some tests as well - the boost situation is the same as before. Boost Off and the AI will slow a lot if you’re ahead. 152 MPH max on the Kemmel straight.

Boost Weak and they are going for it properly with speeds of 170 MPH+.

Full throttle though! However they still don’t use the tyres you assigned unless it’s Racing: Hard, and the default car tyre is below Racing: Hard.

It’s either vehicle default or Racing: Hard. Testing rain now.

@bliprunner Seems like the base AI rubberbanding has also been applied to Sophy.

Silly but what can you do. I’m gonna try see how they go if you’re trailing. Previously even on Boost Weak if you were 10 seconds back they would start slowing more.

EDIT: If you’re 10 seconds back Sophy will not slow down to let you catch up - or if she does then the outright speed she has covers it up.

2 laps of Spa where I started at a 10.5/11 second disadvantage, I couldn’t break get within 10 seconds

The Boost is still backwards. Boost Off should be consistent AI.

WELL, I’ma tell y’all and you all know my posts be out there, I just had the most incredible race in my history of playing Gran Turismo versus AI. Pretty much equal to human play.

Posting the video, I can’t believe the race I just finished. This is what we wanted and after 27 years, PD and SONY AI have delivered. It was real racing. I mean REAL racing.
SOPHY A110 was holding the inside line down the straight and then blending back to the racing line before corner entry. Smooooothly.

No brake checking. Just timed braking and strategic car placement. So much to the point, I was losing time and being backed up to the recovering M3 that went off at the start of the race. All SOPHY agents were on it. The race felt alive! I’m not bs-ing, man.

I gotta mention the Vantage GT4 build. Superb. Super stable. Sounded great. I was worried about the 8-speed, but I made sure to space the speeds in gear at 30km increments and it worked perfectly. I was also skeptical about the 160/230 max downforce, but the 50/50 weight distribution kept the car in step. I wish it had an 18” wheel option for better looks in replays, but the thing is gorgeous inside and out. Game changer is phrase from today. This is big.

FFS, i'm stuck on the PS4 version so I cant enjoy using Sophy, that ****ing sucks.

It is still an issue for tracks that don’t use Sophy. I find it strange that PD never changed it because if they read this forum post at all they would know we didn’t like it but we aren’t the majority.

If it’s intended though why not apply it to Sophy, or maybe Sophy stays full throttle because it’s intended for faster drivers? At least on the professional difficulty.

Just posted the PSVR2 video. Seriously, I’m on it. Even in tow I couldn’t overtake on the straight. No special set ups or anything. I use controller and just pushing as hard as I could and SOPHY didn’t let up. It’s only my second race and it’s with cars that aero this time. I believe.

Boost Weak may solve it. Boost Off they still have the massive slowdown if they are ahead. Haven’t tested a long race with Sophy yet though.

Seems like to me they just layered the non-Sophy rubberbanding over Sophy but the slow down if you’re ahead doesn’t seem to occur at all even on Boost Weak where it would, but nowhere near like Boost Off.
 
Okay I don’t care that you can use Sophy in the rain

I don’t care that the tyre bug isn’t fixed (though I hope it gets fixed)

This thing is for real. I mean I knew it was good but I’ve never battled Sophy in BoP’d Gr.3 cars before. I just went 10 laps at Dragon Trail battling tooth and nail for 17th.

Boost Weak, and I didn’t get any closer to the leaders the whole race.

This is incredible. This in VR must be like actually racing in a real series.

Did a test in Interlagos with a field of 1995 Porsche 911 CSs. 15 laps race, fuel depletion set to 14x and tires to 3x.

Started in 10th and managed to get to 6th, putting some fastest laps. But my Sports Hards started to give up and the Sophy driven cars started passing me. I had to stop for fuel at lap 10: at this point, I had lost all my gains and was back at 10th. The AI managed to hang on until the 12th lap, so they needed a shorter stop and I couldn't catch up, so finished last!

Noticed that at no point felt like it was artificial, like the AI was either going bat**** crazy fast or slower. Was really fun, felt like a race.

Just need to find out a better ballance for tire and fuel consumption because I cannot be that fast and save that much fuel.

Sort of. It's always been this way to an extent. With the regular AI, Boost Weak makes them quicker if they're behind you and considerably reduces the slow down if they're ahead. On Boost Weak if they get too far ahead they would slow down but not like Boost Off.

With Sophy, Boost Weak keeps them quick, and they don't seem to slow down if they're over 10 seconds ahead. Ten lap race I did with no tyre wear or fuel consumption and I actually just went backwards the whole time lol. Battling for 16th into the last sector. On Professional difficulty with Boost Weak, BoP Gr.3 cars.

I haven't tested Boost Strong, which in my experience with regular AI was sort of a worse version of Boost Weak in terms of keeping the grid close, but right now Boost Weak for Sophy is in a really good spot. Really good.

Anyone else's pre made grids not showing up when choosing sophy AI? Do we have to resave all of our previous settings?

looks like you need to rebuild them, when trying to load saved setups I get a black screen. Fearing this, I took screenshots of all my presets yesterday.

It's the future of GT. I'm ****ing floored at how good it is. Especially with all the cars it can drive and now that we can adjust custom race settings. Like for all the grief I give PD, implementing Sophy in GT7 is the best thing they've done in years.

Woooo! And yeah I noticed the setups don't transfer to Sophy custom races. They are still there for regular AI however. Useful for tracks without Sophy at the moment.
 
I created 20 liveries for my Porsche endurance cup and even built a tool using OCR to extract results, stats, and points from race screenshots. Since there's no qualifying system, I also made a shuffler to generate random grids. The schedule included both short and long races, all my favorite tracks, from Le Mans to Tsukuba. I was really excited to run it. I was also making some 70s designs with Porsches, BMWs, Ferraris and Corvettes for another series.

But then, I did a 2 hour race at Daytona (Polyphony really needs to add an incremental slider so we can set up a proper 2.4 hour race, matching the 24 hours) and a 36 lap race at Interlagos, only to be hit by the many issues plaguing custom races before update 1.57. In the end, I scrapped the whole series.

Now, I'm frantically digging through my repos to resurrect the application. Looks like the series is getting a reboot this weekend, can't wait!

Looks great! I haven't seen any new set up options yet as mentioned in the trailer. The settings appear the same as before, though I've only tried to set up at the red bull ring. Are newer settings only available at certain tracks or am I missing something?

And what does sophy AI look like on boost 'off'?

Gotta say I was wrong about this being a game changer. This makes GT7 a totally different game. Feels like ACC and PC2 devs collaborated with PD.

Now, we need PD to really listen and give us qualifying.

this and a showcase feature where you can share your events and get events from others. It should also be possible to create series and not only single races. Like, in my example, I could share the Porsche cup with the schedule, rules, points system and even a set of liveries.

that, plus this AI that is capable of engaging racing, would be the endgame for me.
