Hi guys, first time for me pucking around here.
I have about 90 engines and 70% of the cars, so I'd like to start some experiments...

What are the reasons for choosing one engine-machine combination over another? Having a more powerful machine? Having a freak for fun? Having more options in choosing which car to run a particular race with? Just because I like the idea?

So, for example, having a P65B44-Z4 (BMW Z4 GT3), on which car should I add it amoung the allowed (BMW 3.0 CSL '73,
BMW M3 '03, BMW M3 Coupé '07, BMW M4 Coupe '14)? What is the projectuality behind the choice?

I guess it's not reversible, so I'd like to do wise choices.

Using the common sense at your example what do you think ?

By putting a gt3 engine in a 73 car there's no way to make better since you can't drive it , except in straight line and that is under investigation.

I guess the older the car , the worst the outcome in such a case .
Usually the most powerful swaps are useless since in most cases they add brutal power that cannot be tamed .

Some swaps are ok for doing " silly" things but aren't at all suitable for better driving behaviour.

Usually the less the difference in power the better the outcome.

I can't help you in the particular example you wrote since i never use it ( yet ) but i guess modern era cars will behave better and safer than old ones.

Hi, this is a fun question.

The first question I look at is, "what can I or will I use the car for?"
For example, the LS7-BRZ and Escudo engines are impractical for standard races, but their insane HP makes them fun for speed records at SSRX.
Race car engines (like the Z4 GT3) are better for races with fuel usage compared to road car engines (like the 2JZ or VR38DETT).

I then consider the base car's quality relative to the PP range/event I'm building it for.
A car's maximum potential can be limited by old suspension technology, low downforce, etc.
The post above has good points about drivability (older and/or smaller cars are typically harder to drive).
When you go to install the engine, you can preview the car's PP with the new engine. If the car doesn't gain much PP with the engine swap - it might not be a good candidate.

The last factor would be preference, which cars or engines do you like? I made a point to prioritize the B58-GR-Supra-'20 swap into the BMW M3 Sport Evolution '89 simply because my daily driver is a BMW with the same B58 engine.

So to use your example, if I had a single Z4 GT3 engine, I would probably put it in the M3 '03.
Why? The Z4 GT3 engine puts cars roughly in the 700 PP range. It's a race engine with good fuel economy, making it a good car for the WTC 700 races.
The 3.0 CSL with that engine cannot get to 700 PP (if I remember correctly) and is not the most drivable.
The M3 '03 has lower base PP than the M3 '07 or the M4 '14 - so I feel it was a slightly better base car for a 700 PP build (but there's nothing wrong with any of the 3).

With all of that said, most engine swaps I build are for fun, and many of my favorite swapped cars were ones I built impulsively.

While I agree with you, there are as usual some exceptions from that rule...for example, I really adore the Porsche swap for the Citroen DS...it makes that car really fast, and it is still very nice to drive!

On the other hand the swaps for the two old BMWs or the swap for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint are terrible and make that cars almost undriveable in racing situations...

I typically do it just for the ridiculousness of it all. I think the only swap I have that I actually USE is the GTR driveline in the modern A110. Can't drive it competitively against other humans but does come in handy for a chuckle in the weekly challenges a lot.

While typing this I remembered another...the 356 with the mild 911 motor upgrade. That thing is just plain fun to drive but, again, is reserved for messing around in offline mode.

In the end, build something you want. Go totally 'why not' on it. Build things that could/should never be, lol. If it doesn't work out, put it back in the garage and build something else. 👍

The high-horsepower FF cars are tough to swap. The wheelspin is a killer. I found if you de-tune them, it helps a lot.

Some of these choices by PD give players options as what players can build.

Using the V8 in the ‘73 CSL give players an option to build a car to compete against a mock Group 5 grid. It provides the fuel economy to compete with the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette. As well as the power to match.

Placing that V8 in the ‘03 M3 E46 gives players an M3 GTR build. The famous BMW that won IMSA races and Nurburgring 24H.

Same engine in the ‘07 M3 E92 also gives an option to use for better fuel economy versus say an engine swap Mazda RX-8 that was its rival in the Rolex GT series.

Same with the M4. It just gives players options.
