I guess people were dissapointed by PD way too many times and reached the point of apathy.

Dont get your hopes too high for 2025. Its probably going to be even worse in terms of month skips. While you will eventually get a new track, the content will likely continue to be lackluster. Just look at Eiger update. You got a new track and some great cars. But the new events? Pathetic.
People have been asking for endurance races, new missions, more races like "the big 3" almost since launch. What did they get? Very little.
And it would be so easy for PD to deliver.
I have to say that last weeks weekly races (The Le Mans one) spiked my interest in the game again. It's a fantastic game, but like you said: this game can and should be so much more. It's baffling to me to see what we had for content with GT4/GT5 and now PD is just refusing to put out decent content. Why are there no decent endurance races in the game? It's frustrating for sure.

The game is 3 years old in about 3 months. GT8 is still a long way off, so i just hope PD keeps supporting GT7. The monthly update model is my biggest frustration with the game. Don't want to spark another discussion about the topic, but personally i rather have a fully completed game with every car/track/event in it with release. For my part they give us half/yearly paid DLC with all the new content after the full release. And the option to restart a career instead of tying your progress to an online server.

But yeah... Despite all this, i'm still enjoying the game, almost 3 years after release. As i said before, GT7 will always be the game that have could been the best in the series, but now it falls very much short comparing to previous games in the franchise.

I think GT8 whenever that game comes, is going to be even worse if they keep following the monthly update model and releasing the game barebones but still asking a full price.

Two and a half years to get a demo out, seems about right for PD timeframes...

...and Music Rally is now a 'Classic game mode' in GT, who knew.

Seems like even events are the same as in GT7, I think? No new cars or tracks either. So basically it's just a "nostalgic UI", pretty much exactly what was said in the announcement. Shocking turn of events.

The timeframe seems truly backwards, if you're not new to the game or franchise and also considering the music rallye part a classic part of it seems odd. But if that's the picture they want to paint, why not?

Honestly, I'm glad PD was busy with fleshing out the main title. Maybe the PS Pro release paired with the current general state of the game gave Kaz reason to feel this is the right moment to bring in new players. In any case, this seems to me GT7 is going to be around for a while and if this is the case, I'm eager to see where it goes.

Think this is much more a Sony situation than a Kaz one. Trying to continue generating revenue from an existing product. This is usually the point Playstation games get ported to PC for the extra sales - that doesn't seem to be happening so they try to find new PS players instead.

No coincidence this is released when the digital PS5 version is at its lowest ever price.

Interesting point. This could explain the lack of additional content and odd timeframe. Pushing sales by soft re-releasing before going platinum and gather dust on supermarket shelves.

My feeling exactly.

Yes younger players playing the demo and wanting the game for Christmas.

Anyone can guess the blacked out cars in the collection of 18 cars? I think the BMW M3 89 and the Miata. The other one i don't know.

The 13 visible in the collection screenshots + the five silhouettes are the 1989 M3 Evo, 2015 MX-5, the newer Mini, the R33 GT-R, and the 80s 911 Turbo.

Putting emphasis on Music Rally seems like a massive mistake considering how it panned out for the full game.
I think it'll fare a bit better here.

I'm not saying the Music Rally concept is great or anything, but the number one problem with it in GT7 is it being a weird side mode that doesn't interact with anything else in the game and that they didn't even put in the main menu.

In MFGT, which is basically a collection of mini-modes already, it fits in a bit better.

What is GT nostalgia for someone that never played GT? Plus they would be dissapointed once in the real game.
I know I know I know.. ughh. Just thought it'd be a nice bump to market it via word of mouth. Tie it in with Sony's 30th anniversary marketing, get the old/core audience happy to see how it looked/sounded and then it'd get plenty of positive, free social media coverage etc and hopefully all things considered that would somehow translate to bringing in fresh meat.

I do think it could've worked. Made a demo that was also a fun throwback to the first game or two. Meh.

I also think its weird that the game hasn't been on sale? I've seen it on sale for like $20 multiple times, if I'm not crazy. And I've been wanting to buy a digital version for awhile now, but ever since I decided I wanted to do that, it's never been on sale? Maybe one will come along with this holiday season demo.

It's on sale right now, as part of the 30th Anniversary - $29.39 on PS5, $19.79 on PS4

Music Rally may not everyone's cup of tea around here, and although i dont play enough of it myself (because too busy trying to grind for $20M cars), but personally love the Music Rally concept and idea !
it a very light hearted way of making racing exciting and fun... i love it and want The idea to stay... it is actually NOT that novel, but the combination of good cars with good REFINED music (not the rave stressful electronic music a la Need For Speed) and time.... isn't that all the essence of enjoyment of driving... then we can all go rest at the cafe for a drink...

you may not say Music Rally is a great concept, but i certainly am saying it ! look at it as a nice Coffee Break, a side quest in the Car RPG and away from the highly competitive side of Online Sport...
Music Rally completely belongs in GT game going forward...

Imagine using Ai to combine your favorite music, with the track and car of your choice.... if PD isn't already doing that...

EDIT:
i dont know about you all, but GT Music Rally reminds me of my early years playing with car games like the iconic:

Kaz was definitlely putting a nice twist to OutRun with the Music Rally, an fun arcade version of GT:

EDIT:
If Out Run was the game that got me hooked on car games during my early tween years... then i really dont see GT Music Rally being a bad idea at all in order to make new young +7 car game generation of enthusiasts for years to come....

any decent well polished car games with ease of access and with some class around here nowadays, rather than the usual destructive point and shoot and run over everything ? please point me to it...

I really applaud's PD and Kaz's approach to good clean decent fun that is contructive, rather than destructive (brain rot) like NFS GTA etc....

and that's why i like the polish look of GT games over anything else...

I too am a Music Rally enjoyer.
Gameplay-wise, it's pretty much the Sierra Time Rally which most people seemed to like back on GT6.

I think there are 2 things people don't like about Music Rally:
  • Its implementation into the wider GT ecosystem. I personally think it should have been in the Missions section and offer credit rewards.
  • People not being a fan of the music tracks themselves, which is more of a matter to do with people having different tastes in music. I'd be surprised if someone managed to not enjoy the final Moon Over The Castle one though, as proof that Music Rally does work as a concept.

You dont need to as back as gt5 and 6. GTsport had better events than gt7. I still have fond memories of nostalgia 79 in le mans, the endurance race in mount panorama and f1500 in brands hatch.
I bet if PD would release an update with no cars and consisting only of copy-pasted gtsport events, people would love it.

This just dropped

Kinda reminds me gt4 and gt5 prologues.
Well i'm gonna play it, I guess. At least there are license tests in there
