Gran Turismo 7 Livery Editor - General Discussion Thread

How many of you make itasha liveries?
Is this Itasha?

While I don't feel very comfortable putting these young ladies on a car - in this particular case some girl called Miku, one must say: They bring lots of life to a livery. Many colours, many different well executed decals of this genre available.

You know how in Gran Turismo Sport, Ford had two Gr.B cars, the Ford Mustang Gr.B Rally Car and the Ford Focus Gr.B Rally Car? What if GT Sport did the same with Gr.4, having a Ford Focus Gr.4 with the Ford Mustang Gr.4?:

Somebody mentioned Super Utes last week, and apparently, I've been living under a rock, because I had never heard of that. Being a truck guy, I started googling, which led to some inspired by liveries. Wasn't going for accuracy, just wanted to get a few together, and gave me an excuse to race a bunch of Tundras, when I'm done. I was also fortunate to have several Gr3 Lexus engines I could drop in too.

I still don't get how people like liveries.

Someone slaps on 4-5 stickers of a replica, while there are lot more to add. Turns out to be popular.
Others where there is masking and a lot going on you cannot see, hardly gets any likes.

Seems like a lot of people don't understand how much work goes into a livery at times.

Its also a popularity thing. Some users just comment and like all liveries they see and get some in return.

Idk if it's just me, but I'm feeling called out by your post.

I think it just comes down to taste and in most cases general appearance. While some look for the technical stuff, others judge by pure looks and style. Thankfully the automotive world is very diverse and personally I appreciate simple approaches as well as over the top stuff and can respect what others do or like, too. Also, how much thought went into a style to create something tangible and cohesive feels very important to me.

And, you're right about things going unnoticed/underappreciated - the R34 previously posted would count as something you described. The sponsors are indeed a mosh up of the Power Getter and M-Speed Replicas I did previously mixed with fictional diy logos. Since I spent a lot of time in researching and creating all the replica decals beforehand, I hold my creative freedom to use them for fun fantasy liveries etc.

Livery breakdown:
The main decal was illustrated from scratch and the windshield and hood logo were provided by the race series host, but further modified with varying line weights. The carbon fibre was coded way back in GT Sport to stuff in the highest tiling/ingame resolution ratio and can be downloaded from my profile, like most other decals I create. The event this car will be running in uses similar builds/tunes as you would find in Super Taikyu, so I felt recycling sponsors from a recent replica.

I can understand if replica mosh ups or generally fantasy race liveries may not be your cup of tea, but phrasing this in such a dismissive way feels unnecessary.

@ikon_313 It is you. :)

I wasn't talking about your R34 which (despite you used a lot of green) i quite like, but in general.

It's just an overal feeling. It's also the reason i don't share a lot of liveries any more. It's not that i need confirmation lol. But it kinda stings getting 10 likes on a livery where you put a lot of work into.

Thank you for clearing this up.

Maybe you have this impression because recently I've mostly posted fantasy stuff. If you would take a look at my ingame profile, you would see the styles shared are mostly replicas, where some are even chosen due to their difficulty with masking, shading and texturing. Doing mosh ups or fictional cars is just a fun exercise, whilst there's still some details sneaked in that gets unnoticed anyway.

Pouring hours over hours into shared content and getting widely unnoticed sucks. Most of my shared styles have 2 digit likes so I know the feeling. But as long as you're doing this for fun and not trying to live off it (i.e. youtube, professional livery design for race cars, etc), fun should be a priority and not what others like.

I see that you are into drifting and so my answer is "happiness isn't around the corner, happiness is the corner."

I make liveries for myself and while I like some of my work I see myself not at the same level as you and @ikon_313 for example. That's why I don't publish anything here and only sometimes in my GT7 profile. Nevertheless I enjoy doing so, just for myself or an online racing series...

Hopefully you find joy again. Have a nice weekend!
