I don’t think PD understands that TC in the real world actually makes lap times faster, not slower.
well that largely depends on the car. For road cars, TC and/or ESC improving lap times even for skilled drivers is a relatively recent thing with systems getting more sophisticated. Definitely wasn't the case for road cars in the 90s, early 00s.

I reckon that PD uses a one-size-fits-all TC algorithm for all cars which results in less than realistic behaviour for most of them. It's very much a driver aid on a meta level, and not a simulated TC system of the actual vehicle.

And while there is surely room for improvement, with the number of cars in the game you can hardly expect them to recreate actual TC algorithms. Manufacturers wouldn't share their source code, and that kind of software nowadays can be as complex as the game itself.

If PD wanted to make the traction control (or any of the drivers aids) more realistic, they wouldn’t even have any drivers aids on cars older than ~1980. What would be cool is if they actually differentiated between the different braking systems in the tuning portion of the game. Maybe a sports brake package could be just a basic “big brake” kit. The racing brake kit adds ABS to cars that don’t have ABS from the factory and Carbon Ceramic adds brake bias controls. Right now, there is no difference between racing brakes or carbon ceramic but the cost is different.

That said, traction control could be a “purchasable” upgrade for all cars. Maybe the cars prior to the ‘80s could purchase a more crude form of traction control like they would buy a “full control computer” in the tuning section. A more sophisticated traction control could be purchased in the “racing” section or the “extreme” section for your more high end cars or true race cars (Gr.4/3/2/1).

The point is, PD had a fairly good TC algorithm that they threw out the window with the recent updates and went back to a system that is akin to pre-v1.31. These updates make no sense.
