Really, another vintage Camero.... i mean i love the car, but i'd prefer something that was actually made to take on the track.
Well the Camaro's were originally built to road race. And that Camaro build was meant to be road-raced. Your point?
From all the great cars at sema that was the best he could choose. Did he forget his glasses ?
Firstly, that car is pretty cool when you consider what it was built to do and the performance that's under the hood.
Secondly, you must understand that you need to enter the Gran Turismo Awards in order to be eligible to win. Since many cars there probably didn't enter, it doesn't matter how cool they are since they can't be selected to win a category. And that brings me to my next point: Yamauchi-san is a busy man and isn't in town very long, so he shows up and does interviews while judges walk around picking which cars win the five categories. Kaz then selects which of the five cars that the Judges deemed worthy to be worthy of GT5. So even if everyone likes this one car, but the judge of the category doesn't... bummer!
Then there's just my theory that Kaz seems to consider the owner/builder as much a part of the car as the metal is. He also seems to look for cars that become more than the sum of their parts. To him, that Camaro had something about it that was unique and superior to the other cars there... so he selected it as the winner.
