So... Someone became a real racing driver thanks to playing GT?
We already "saw that movie" when we saw people like Lucas Oroñez go from GT to real racing, not such a big deal

It's about Jann Mardenborough. Both him and Lucas have an amazing story by proving that a gamer can become a professional racing driver. Not sure how that story isn't worth telling.

Pretty average. Had a few good results here and there, fairly consistent top 10s in Super GT, but not much to write home about. Still, he did well for someone who didn't race in real life until 19. But there is certainly no grandstand finale if they follow his career accurately, which I suspect they won't.
Finishing third at Le Mans is not something you do with ease

It's not, but it doesn't really change what I said. It was one of a handful of solid results across his career, but he never stood out. It was also a team effort, of course.

Not great, not terrible. 3.6 roentgens / 5.

Meh. They should've made it about Lucas because at least he won something, moderately successful career at endurance.

I dont think it's gonna be any good, but if they earn some decent money, through Sony Pictures, which is essentially Sony, and PD is also part of Sony (therefore PD should benefit for that) then it's alright, good luck to them...
It’s not good when money are made from something that isn’t worth people’s money.

I'm sure they could use CGI and throw up a few fake signs here and there.
I reckon they should have a sequence where he drives around Trial Mountain, his car is attacked by monkeys and, in a stunning plot twist, he saves his team mate when they are attacked by the Loch Ness Monster.... ;)
Note that it's the incorrectly colored GT logo that can be found as early as 2004 N24:

The incorrectly colored GT4 logo was there on the Japanese Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons until April 2021, though many logo sites online still have it.

They will probably fix this in the movie with a day 1 patch.

After which, everyone has to wait in the cinema for 2 hours while the movie copies itself...
Have him roll up in a Citroen rally car. Exit the vehicle with a slo-mo helmet removal. Right left shake of the hair, look into the camera and smile with the tooth sparkle. Magic. :sly:
I saw something similar when we were both at the Orange Box unveiling of GT Sport in London in 2016.

Back then we both had hair to shake - we've diverged somewhat since then 😂

And if we're talking cameos, absolutely that has to include Translator San too ;)

There's some decent names attached to this movie. Though I have the feeling, Blomkamp is just doing this for the money. Hope it ends up good. Racing movies can be amazing. Ford v Ferrari is one of my favorite movies ever.

YouTuber "sporting pink hair" featured in a movie...

In what universe could this possibly go well?
That's far from the biggest red flag with regards to this movie.

It's worth telling as a documentary, and there's plenty of media out there that tells the story of various parts of Jann's career even if they're a bit scattered.

It's questionable how good a fictionalised movie it will make, and that's largely up to how good the script ends up being. Zero-to-hero is pretty bog standard as far as movie premises go, and this one doesn't have much unique to recommend it other than being tangentially related to a popular gaming franchise.

And then there's the fact that movies/media based on gaming franchises are overwhelmingly mediocre to awful with very few exceptions. Of late we've had Arcane and Edgerunners, both of which are excellent. But the reality is that most stuff based on games is there purely to cash in on the name recognition, and this movie seems like it's another one of those.

Until we see something noteworthy from this production, it's entirely reasonable to be very skeptical about it. And for people who aren't just going to automatically buy everything with a GT logo attached to it, even to question why it should exist at all.

I know Neill personally (fellow South African). Can assure you he’s not doing this just for the money.
Oh great. Meant no disrespect as I'm actually a fan of his. District 9 is one of the best movies of the 21st century I just didn't know if he was into racing. Excuse my ignorance.

“I’m sure you’ve seen racing movies before but it’s difficult to figure out what to do at the climax of the movie — and for some reason they are shifting up! I told them ‘please don’t do that’! In turn I gave him an idea, and it’s an action that will be key to the last parts of the movie for the main character, but other than that I can’t say any more!”
Good guy Kaz

We need a anime too like cyberpunk edge runners please. As I have said I play Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon, Assetto corsa and Competizone, the crew, formula 1 games, dirt and dirt rally, and there’s just something about Gran Turismo, it’s rich history, yes I’ve been here since GT1, and I am a pad racer, to me it’s just “Special” yes it’s not perfection and we need more iconic gt tracks, I still think credit payouts need some tweaking and custom races need to pay more, but overall it’s special, Kaz and his team have a brilliant mind, the details, the polish, the love for the automobile and it’s rich history, I just spend hours watching my car in different spaces around the world or using scapes, there’s so much to love about Gran Turismo, reward ticket for the daily workout is nice, menus, music, the attention to detail and polish. The way the game feels better on a pad and improved over gt sport, some of the cars are so good. It’s just all special, the licence and circuit experience can be challenging gold times but the game wants you to learn and do better, you keep restarting then Sarah tells you take a breath and it’s ok keep going, you get smoother and faster then bam!! You get gold and also on my friends list which has super gt on there I have been at the top I’m not sure how I would say I’m above average, also the community are amazing the designs, race suits and cars etc 🤩 😯 just incredible. I wasn’t sure where I should write this please move gt planet (Also gt planet are the best I love this page and reading ad learning etc) I can’t wait for movie and I remember when interviews with Jann etc about gt academy, and hopefully we get more events like the world finals stuff and more single players racing too, also I love the cafe it’s quality and so good and love also the intro scenes to the world endurance racing I have done 600 and 700 the cut scenes there so good. I have been playing gt 7 a lot the last few days and enjoying working through the cafe etc. thank you for reading this everyone and Gran Turismo is special and Kaz is a very intelligent man 😃 🚗

Man, I wish we could get a GT movie/series as good as Edgerunners was. But I don't really know if it works like that. Unless, of course, the final scene is
a tragic loss for the main character while "I Really Want to Stay At Your House" starts playing.
That would be certified kino

Is the first 90% of the movie the same race repeated over and over until the main character can afford a race car?
The first 30 minutes consists of the protagonist doing some dirt racing at a ranch in Arizona. Eventually he moves to Tokyo where he sits in the pouring rain holding an actual tomahawk for the remaining length of the movie. One day he stumbles upon a mysterious warehouse owned by a nice Italian fellow named "Luca". In there he finds infinite engines and infinite money glitch, protagonist says to himself, "This truly was a Gran Turismo"

Credits roll, 5OUL ON D!SPLAY starts playing
