Kaz: "I want a movie about my game that literally had no story mode to begin with."

Also Kaz: "I've yet to finish the incomplete mess that is GT7. But that's okay, because my fans love it regardless."

Zero desire to watch this.
PlayStation Productions are in charge of these things. All major franchises are being looked at as Sony wishes to increase the reach (and income) from their established gaming IP’s.

What form the movie takes is anyone’s guess. Gran Turismo covers the full breadth of car culture. Le Mans, Ford vs Ferrari, Grand Prix, Rush, Days of Thunder are all successful racing movies. Le Mans was basically a documentary with a story crowbarred in!

Then you have the Fast and the Furious & Initial D tuner/JDM influenced movies. You could even go full art house and produce something like Drive. Although it would need to be family friendly!

There where doubts over the Uncharted movie. That has just passed $400m box office and is one of the biggest movies of the year. A sequel is locked in. Likewise people asked why we needed a The Last of Us TV show. HBO jumped onboard and it’s going to be one of the biggest TV events of ‘23.

Might this be a good idea?

Just...why?

it’ll be interesting how they do it, they’ll play it safe and aim it at kids is my guess, easier to get away with terrible narrative

I'm guessing it will be almost exactly like those clickbait videos that are twelve minutes long that have absolutely no point at all. Except in the case of PD, the show will take 2 minutes of content and stretch it out into a 4-part miniseries which takes 185 hours to watch or you can pay $20 for each fifteen minutes of viewer credit.

Because the Uncharted movie is on course to make half a billion dollars and opening up the franchise to a whole new audience.

If you can make Sonic work in the cinema it’s not exactly a huge stretch to think Gran Turismo could be a goer. As ever, the biggest concern would be producing an entertaining movie. With the success of Top Gun I wouldn’t be surprised to see a sequel to Days of Thunder! Popcorn movies are in.

We had a period when some fans where resigned to the Gran Turismo franchise fading away. And Sony putting resources into other IP’s. Now we’re seeing a renewed focus & investment.

I’ve very little interest in online racing or the World Tour events. But I can see their place and how it serves that audience. Likewise I’m not a big movie watcher. But it all contributes (if done competently) to the profile & investment in the franchise.

I’m more interested in the rumoured TV show. Which some reporters have said is still in development alongside the movie. With these things being so early, they could go either way.

Gee, I remember Two films that were made based upon a well known and played video game and both bombed, HITMAN, the second worse than the first. So why does Playststion and/or PD believe that this will work?

Shartlo Copley will spend the majority of the movie getting past license tests, then buying a busted up road car at a used dealership to eventually build it up to take on the Professional League, but the twist is that Luca, who's been encouraging you at the cafe, reveals he's been the villain all along, driving a VGT, and forcing the love interest, Sarah, to crash her car and to create the motivation for Copley to win. Upon finally defeating him, Kaz makes a cameo to present him a trophy, declaring "you are...THE GRAN TURISMO"

Soundtrack by Die Antwoord.

My first guess…an esports-centered reality show.

My second guess…”Vision Gran Turismo”, a heavily CGI action movie set in the near future about a futuristic racing series. Probably with the intent to use that property to launch a “VGT” open-world game to compete with Forza Horizon.

How in the world would a GT TV series even work? It has no protagonist, no real character arch or even an antagonist. What? Is it going to follow the story of how Luca created his Cafe? I mean... I just don't see it.

It doesn’t have to be a fictional series necessarily, it could be a documentary series about the Gran Turismo community, culture and surrounding car culture generally.

I'm not against documentaries, but that sounds kind of boring for a TV show. There are several documentaries about GT and its history already, and if I was really interested in learning more about it I'd go online and research it.

Personally I like the suggestion of a futuristic race series involving VGT cars. We could even have a cheesy protagonist that says "Ahhh" after every race.

Gran Turismo racer you must win this race Ahhh!

I'm embarassed to say I liked that movie based on Battleship. Had almost nothing to do with game. Kids probably play the game now and wonder where the aliens are.

I mean let's be real, with few exceptions like the recent Sonic 2 movie, the vast majority of movies or TV shows that are based on a video game were mediocre at best and an absolute disaster at its worst.

And on top of that, I can't imagine how would they turn Gran Turismo of all things into a Movie or a TV Show. What kind of movie/show are we even talking about?

Something like Formula 1: Drive to Survive but about top tier eSport players from all those live events?

Something inspired by other car movies like Ford v Ferrari, Rush, Thunderbolt, Days of Thunder or dare i say it, Fast and Furious?

I have no clue tbh and i doubt it's going to be any good, If it ever comes out anyways.

I think it’s be better to start as series and see if people enjoy it. Be nice for them to focus on the GT players…?Either way I’m interested.

So basically, DTS with GT instead of Formula 1.

No, I don't want to see Lucas Ordonez or whatever GT Awards indian guy that won some races in a video game become a "pro" driver.

Just make up a fictional driver in an universe where Gran Turismo events do happen, is that easy.
