The movie has already leaked for free online. Obviously I'm not going to post the link but it will probably end up on a lot of websites quickly.

The early screenings are part of an adjusted marketing strategy given that the actors cannot promote it. It came about because of the writers strike. Seems to be working fairly well, anecdotally there is a bit of chatter about it outside of this thread.
I saw your name on the end credits as a racing advisor if I recall correctly (I was the only person sad enough to watch all the end credits on the screening I saw ). You must be stoked and some! I remember seeing your name up there on the leaderboards back in the day when I got into Gran Turismo in the competitive sense due to GT Academy.

I think the issue they might face though by moving the date is they are still advertising everywhere the old date, that can only lead to disappointment. Someone needs to tell the promotion team to show the correct date on the advertisements.

While I'm thinking about it, did they get any of the other GT Academy winners in for driving/consulting?

Like, I imagine Lucas, Riccardo, Florian, Wolfie (although not racing with that awful hyperacusis), Gaetan (the forgotten LMP1 driver) and Mark (who also drove the LMP1 and helped develop the Oak LMP2) would have been great resources for both racing and GT Academy. Or your countryman Ashley Oldfield; not sure what he's up to though.

Well, there's some free Advertising (even if it was unintentional).

@Famine Are we allowed to post personal review of movie without spoiler tag on here?
If you're not subject to any embargo, sure. I think we all know Jann's story and most of it is 7-12 years old, even if some of it is massaged for film, but if there's something that might affect other people's enjoyment of it use your best judgment on spoiler tags.

Surprisingly I was the only motorsport/sim racing advisor that they consulted. When Jann arrived (about mid-way through production) and started stunt driving he pitched in sometimes. But besides me and Jann, there weren't any other official advisors.

I did manage to get @Tidgney on a call with the fact finding team though! They needed some info about what happens at GT Academy so I put him in touch with them :)

Was a surreal experience. When I saw the first article about the movie on GTPlanet I immediately went on a mission to reach out to Neill (fellow South African) to offer my help/experience. I thought it would be a few calls but it turned into 7 months of my life. I'm still an absolute Gran Turismo die-hard. And even though I wasn't allowed to qualify for GT Academy I do credit a lot of it with my pursuit to becoming pro.

Also, unlike a few guys in this thread, I think what Jann (and Lucas) did is incredible and unique and that story deserved to be told. Whether everyone enjoys the movie I cannot say, but the story of GT Academy is exactly the sort of thing I dreamed of when I was playing the game and hoping it would lead to me becoming a professional racing driver.

No Everything Must Go remixed by Chemical Brothers from GT1.. Sad 😪😪 but I was expecting this..

The best GT song. Ever. Will never be beaten.

I will be forever thankful for the opportunity to pitch in when I could, so will always appreciate it! GT Academy is a great competition when it happened, I'll personally always be thankful for the opportunity I had competing in it. I'm going to take my GT Academy National Finals 2011 T-Shirt with me to the Amsterdam show as it's the same competition where Jann qualified for the European final.

I always say to Jann when I see him I still remember him driving his BMW there to. Jann was amazing at that event, and what I love about GT Academy it showed that there was talent in the sim racing world and it can translate to the real world.

Interesting points about Lucas and the other previous champions toward the end there. I had wondered if this was how they were going to present it. Perhaps it was marketed to an English speaking audience for a reason (of which I can only guess is relatability)?

Movies are never as good as the book. This story probably would be better told as a mini series on HBO or Netflix. Actually develop a set of characters and more about Gran Turismo. You could tell the story properly.
Seems like a vanity project. Money that could have been invested in a new penalty system and enforcement to make racing fair and fun again.

How would that have anything to do with it? Sony Pictures bankrolled the whole movie; PD didn't pay out of pocket or anything to get it made. Although they're under the same umbrella, Sony Pictures and Sony Interactive are two completely separate entities.

It's 2023, how do people still think this is how game development works?

People prefer to just label everything rather then actually look deeper. Both have Sony attached so automatically, they somehow equate THAT logic when as you pointed out they are not the same (Likewise, that goes for Sony Animation and Sony Music Entertainment).

Gran Turismo movie would have worked if it was based on the Midnight club where the main character races for midnight club then becomes a racing driver in super gt.

Or feature a fictionalised Lucas Ordonez or Jann Maradenborough who settles in Japan and finds life hard overtime with GT Academy becoming a lease on life he becomes a racing driver in Japan.

Honestly its a GT Movie where are the easter eggs and references of the game which fans would love.

Even sneak in Cameo appearances of Kaz, and other figures of the Japanese Game community and the Japanese motorsport community.

GT Movie had so much potential but instead they had to hollywood it.

Metro 2033 movie never happened because the Author feared if he gave the green light to the movie they will just americanise it and destroy it rather than the Russian/Eastern European feeling which is depressing and despair.

Metro 2033 author I think is also blacklisted by Russian State as he condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Whole premise of Metro 2033 is mainly the aftermath of Ww3 and how most of the world including Nato countries becoming a nuclear wasteland.

I feel like Kaz should have been more involved giving too much creative freedom because when you do they stray off the source.
