The problem is the "superior modeling" is not for every asset in the game. Out of the supposed eventual 400-500 cars GTSport will supposedly see, I'm betting half will be PS3 assets, just like it was with GT5 and GT6 with PS2 assets.
I was a diehard fan of the GT series back in the day. I used to know every spec of every car, even once upgraded, by heart back in GT1. Played it til the disk couldn't be read. Same with GT2, and GT3. GT4, well, that was the glorious one, the one I talked about when people wanted to know what racing game to buy. It was nearly perfect.
Then, we have images of GT5 at E3 2005. Much excitement. End up buying an Xbox in the meantime because all my friends have one, and Live sounds like fun. Discover Forza, not bad, but no GT. At least it has Porsches and Ferraris. Look over in PS3 corner, first delays announced for GT5. Oh, okay. Pick up a 360, Forza 2 comes out, pick it up as well. Better than the first one, but still not quite GT. More delays regarding GT5. FM3 comes out. Whoa, now this is good. Over in PS3 corner, 4 years after GT5 is announced, still nothing. I'm starting to get disappointed now. Roll around 2010, GT5 comes out, 5 years after. Log on to GTP, head over the GT5 section for feedback, and I see this:
And that's when I gave up. 5 years. For this. 1000 cars, yeah. Roughly 200 are "premium", the others are straight from the PS2. 5 years. I felt cheated, dejected even. This series was a part of my youth, and you've gone and done that to it? It's now a photography/car collecting simulator with a bit of racing in between... It's like they sat on their asses for 4 years and then realized, oh yeah, we've got a game to put out. Here, take the GT4 car list and just port it over. GT6 came out afterwards and I didn't even bother, I knew it would be more of the same. Then you realize there's 21 NA Miatas in the game, and somehow it doesn't make any sense.
But GTS I was looking for, really. It showed promise, I thought it would be a return to PD's glory years.
I'm afraid it's not.
