I find it interesting how many times people refer to GT6's sales figures as evidence that the series has a damaged/ruined reputation, is on a downward trajectory, may be coming to an end, is no longer a system seller, + whatever other doom and gloom they want to cast on the series.

GT6 was by far the worst seller among the main installments in the series, but at close to 5 million units, it's still sold more than any of the Forza series as far as anyone knows, and 4.9m is way more than any other racing sim, so it's hardly a sign of imminent demise for the series lol.

You've also got to remember that GT6 came out after the PS4 had been released, leading to a lot of people questioning what the point of it was, and why it wasn't made for PS4 instead. I would bet it's sales suffered significantly from being released on a system that people were moving away from. Even with GT6's poor sales (relative to the other main GT installments), GT games on the PS3 still totaled over 22 million, which is great for any franchise, but utterly massive for a sim racing series.

Make no mistake, Gran Turismo is still a system seller, and isn't in any trouble at all. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on GTS selling more than 8 million units when it's all said and done.

One of the dark sides to the internet unfortunately. :ill: Everything is recorded and preserved, including all my stuff.

Maybe I should go and delete that list in that post I made some time ago...
Each to their own but just seems a little extreme to have sought out 109 separate quotes from the forum as to why GT has gone backwards. I think we all take this hobby a little too seriously at times but that is some serious shizzle right there!

And now I am quite embarrassed to ever have done it. Let this be a lesson to ye all, don't go and do what I just did.:nervous:

Going back on topic...

You could be right. We'll just have to wait and see.

You could be right. We'll just have to wait and see.

For sure, and I'll happily eat humble pie if I am proven wrong, but I just don't think we've seen enough to suggest there's any danger of the series falling further. There's already enormous hype around GTS, and we've literally seen only one teaser for it. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see GTS outsell GT6 within the first few months of release.

What's interesting about this is that the public knows basically nothing about the game yet.

Which likely makes the jump even more meaningless. To make a jump of nearly 600% is easy when the sales beforehand were a tiny number. I can't see how they would have been big pre-VR announcement for the reason you mentioned, plus more importantly the title wasn't even prominently featured on the site and still isn't, you have to manually search for it. These are the titles under Pre-Orders > Racing because it only shows the next 90 days.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=s9_a...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=862575807&pf_rd_i=3472451

Then when VR was announced websites, blogs, news stories running with games all mentioned GTS as an upcoming title, boom, there is your interest. People searched for it, pre-orders flew up. We don't know the numbers of course, but it could easily have been in the region of 1000 pre-orders to 7000. Or 5000 to 35000.

Well if gran turismo sport is indeed coming soon around mid to late spring then April might be the latest that we may have to wait unless pd delay release for Christmas 2016. I can't see that happening. Because I'm sure they will want to demonstrate the gt academy on gran turismo sport. So we should be getting some sort of news and when it does happen it will all happen suddenly and pretty quickly. We are getting close.

I think if anything really needs to be improved for Gran Turismo, it should be the scenery. More detailed trees, more detailed grass, more realistic lighting, dynamic clouds, perhaps some air planes that fly overhead. Gran Turismo 5 and 6's scenery looks good, but it still looks gamey in some areas.

Does this game exist anymore?
I've been searching all over the internet just looking for an anwser for months, and still no luck... Joking aside, I honestly don't know nor do I care since it's just PD being PD as usual. Seriously they always do this with their newest games.

I mean PD could've taken note from Evo on how to communicate, but nope, Sony ain't having it...

I wouldn't be too sure about this, for two reasons.

First, Gran Turismo is now infamous for its zombie AI, vacuum cleaner engine sounds, long and delayed development periods, lack of a livery editor, and standard cars. These things together have made the game the biggest joke on its largest unofficial fan site and the internet at large. Find me any article or video related to GT where these flaws haven't been mentioned/discussed/mocked in some capacity.
Compare this to something like Forza Motorsport which never had any major missteps.

Second, sales numbers have dropped by a little more than half between GT5 and GT6.

GT5: 11,940,000
GT6: 4,880,000

I don't really think this drop is because it came when the PS4 released since I would think (hope) people would buy up a game if it was good regardless of which system it was on. In fact, PD now have two strikes since many consider GT6 to be worse than GT5, especially considering that it took two years for the game to receive its most anticipated feature, course maker. And even when it did arrive, it turned out to be a tablet app. A fact that PD never mentioned until it was released (this was the point where I've had enough).

So combine GT's damaged reputation and the seemingly related drop in sales, then add the competition on top, and I'm a little confused as to why it could still be a system seller. At the very least it is no longer as potent as it was on PS2.

Edit: The list I had here was a little much, and not really related to the argument.
Over 84 million PS3s were sold. The PS4 sold around 15 million units one year after GT6s release. (13m by october, 18m by January)
Logically, not enough PS3 owners actually got a PS4 close enough to GT6s release for it to affect sales. Also, almost nobody that ditched their PS3 without buying GT6, is in the system seller category.
Then there's the fact that not everyone who bought a PS4 sold their PS3. In fact, prices of used PS3s are high enough I would argue that most didn't.
In a nutshell, you're correct. Releasing GT6 on PS3 probably didn't affect sales much.

On the other hand, if it were a PS4 game, interest would have peaked with many people anxious to see the new game on a new system.
Sales would have suffered though, because so few people actually had a PS4.
Maybe it's a victim of bad timing, but I have to think any people that base their console sales on GT, didn't just skip GT6 for lack of interest, it defies logic, and fanaticism.

I see this argument being thrown around very often - it's probably a number one reason why GT6 sold so much less than GT5 according to many.

I gotta say it is indeed a valid argument because GTA5 which also launched not long before next gen also sold half of the previous entry. Then they tried to regain some of those lost sales on PS4/XBO but I'm not sure how well that went for them.

There's a PC version too - someone said desperation ? Clearly wrong timing will lower the sales of even the best game that improves on everything like GTA5 and GT6.

Yup.

Now some people say it sold so "little" because they didn't improve the monkey AI, the career sucked and the vacuum cleaners were still there from GT4 to suck your soul while featuring an outdated car roster and PS2 ass_ets but as you can see that's not the case at all.

Also GT fans clearly do care about the series not being on PS4 because the seasonal events in 2016 have only around 200k people each week. Driveclub on the other hand - a game automatically successful cos it's on PS4 and have great graphics have like 3000 people on the events.

So GT6 was late by 6 months otherwise it would sell at least 23mln copies.

Ummm, what...? I'm fairly sure you're absolutely wrong.

Grand Theft Auto 5 has shipped almost 29 million units, Take-Two has announced, exceeding lifetime unit sales of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 within just six weeks on sale.

The sales figure was revealed by Take-Two in its Q2 2014 earnings call this evening, with the publisher describing GTA 5's release as a "phenomenal launch".

Yes because I have enough time to examine tree details while blasting past them at 300kmh

Alright I just had the greatest idea, they could have drones flying above the track, just like irl and also replay camera from the drone

You don't need to examine anything to notice stuff like this:

Naff trees and another obvious flat, 2D tree wall at the back.

Granted not all tracks are as bad as Le Mans for this but to say you can't notice any of it at speed is not true.

To be honest I never noticed it on lemans, that being said now that you pointed it out, you kinda ruined it for me, I won't be able to go on that straight without seeing those ugly razor sharp 2D trees...

Yeah, environments and vegetation need the biggest work especially on the older tracks. Let's also not forget replays is an attractive feature to GT for many people, you're bound to notice crappy looking trees and environment detail.

I'm pretty sure there will still be walls of 2D trees for engine performance reasons but they need to do a better job at hiding it. I think it's evident though they've gotten better at art design for the vegetation based on new tracks (Bathurst, Spa) vs. the old ones like Le Mans and Nurburgring. What's embarrassing is stuff like Trial Mountain being such a low poly track and still have worse looking trees than Bathurst.

Regarding GTS, based on the limited footage at least it seems they've achieved much better looking vegetation through physically based rendering. The canopies are still 2D billboards that rotate to face the camera, but they also feature proper speculars and shaders like Driveclub to provide a sense of volume and realism compared to GT6's drab & flat Nurburgring trees.

I don't know how many of you remember but there was a guy on here that claimed he knew a few brits working for PD and that the rumored release of GTS beta was 28th of March (2016 that is) however... Since then there was that interview with a french journalist who when asked about GTS said "things are looking complicated, something that's suposed to happen in March isn't happening" soo jeah... doesn't look too promising for GTS
