Vulcan Vitessa I '67

To coincide with the Goodwood Revival this weekend, a finalised version of the livery designed for and carried during my 2021 Season 2 Nations Cup race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The gist is that it represents Vulcan's historic Vitessa I endurance racer, a mid-engined Group 4 machine intended to be a worthy match for the original Ford GT40. For more backstory, see my Livery Gallery post.

My earliest notes for the Vitessa I livery outlined a contrasting white and green colour scheme, though it took some time for me to settle on a design which would stand out yet remain contemporary among real-life 1960s endurance racers. Eventually, I had the idea of a white base and large dark green panels on the front, sides, roof and rear, with contrasting 'apple green' stripes, green wheels and a forked pattern behind the rear window. Black panels on the lower side sills mask the GT40's true proportions for a lower and sleeker appearance.

As with other 'Vulcan' liveries, the racing numbers and all primary branding decals were made by myself in Photoshop with a variety of fonts. The 'Vulcan Cincinnati' decals were originally meant for the 'Venator V.5000' and helped me establish the idea of this scheme representing a joint Group 4 works car from Vulcan's US and UK divisions.

The Vitessa I livery comes in two versions: the regular version with conventional side numbers and 'Castrol' stickers, and the 'SM' version with driver names on the roof and racing numbers over the rear intakes. 'SM' enables the livery to be used in Sport Mode races and is more or less the version I competed with in Nations Cup.

Like isn't enough to express what I feel about this. Outstanding, and I love the backstory.
It does very much look like a real sixties livery!

FedEx STI WRX Gr.3. Another original livery, this time using the STI logo as the primary layout feature. I tried using a pink/red/orange colourshift base paint layer with semi-transparent pink carbon decal overlay to give the impression of a colour-shifting carbon fibre base - it's really subtle but it's there! The grey and white work well against the pink, and the yellow adds more colour contrast to the overall aesthetic.

Envisaged as a GT300 competitor in Super GT, sponsored mainly by FedEx and STI Performance. Sport mode compatible, carrying 555 racing number for rally nostalgia!

Used this week to catch-up on some 787B liveries. Initially updating older touring car* derived designs made a while ago, and turning them into fictitious Le Mans entries. First of which was a 2-car entry for 1993 (#66 and #8), then a single car for '94 with #44, complete with fake driver line-ups for all 3 .

*(Based on the BTCC Roger Dowson Xedos 6's ca.'93-'94, and Matt Neals 323f from the '94 Touring Car World Cup)

Continuing that trend, made a Eunos 787B, also a fictional entry. In this case an additional Mazdaspeed works car for the Japanese Sports Prototype Championship of 1991.
