Since I'm not very creative a person, I heavily borrowed themes and ideas from Need for Speed: World.
In creating this livery I had wanted to not only stay true to the car's shape, but to highlight the naturally beautiful curves of the FD, unlike most racing car liveries I find that almost seem to try to camouflage a car's shape by breaking up the car with a mess of patterns and stripes. In keeping with the Mazda philosophy of "Rider and Horse as one", otherwise known as "Jinba Ittai", I didn't want to break up sections of the car or camouflage it, but rather use the livery as a guide of sorts for the eye to flow through the car and accentuate its natural curves more.
Frankly speaking, the FD RX-7 in my opinion, for all its critical acclaim in the tuning scene, is a car I feel Mazda themselves aren't terribly proud to have produced, owing to poor sales in export markets. I wanted to see what would a classic, impossible by today's standards body shape like that of an FD RX-7 adorned with modern Mazda support and philosophies. A SkyActiv Technology decal highlights the rear wing, a design philosophy I'd super love to see applied to the aged FD, or a contemporary equivalent. The Mazda sport emblem thing on the hood is covered entirely by a racing number when the game forces one on the car, and the rest of the "55" racing numbers on the side are as well. No. 55, as I'm sure is well known by now, is the number of Mazda's Le Mans winning 787B, the first and only Japanese car to ever win Le Mans outright. The racing number "55" as found its way into prominent Mazda concept cars such as the Furai and LM55 VGT, so it seemed like the only number to adorn my FD with.
I believe sports cars shouldn't be all masculine but have a feminine side to them as well, and I'd love to bring folks who'd otherwise never have given a sports car a second glance into the world of cars. How else would we find sports cars "sexy", right? I wanted to create a livery that brings out the softer, feminine side to a sports car, hence the pink-focused theme.
