Why do you say "both my laps"?

Sorry, newbie in these World Series. Qualifying is 5 minutes and you exit out of the pit lane (right?) so you need to do an out lap. Suzuka is 2m/lap which means you only have 1 qualifying lap to get it right?

If I'm right about this, you should exit the pitlane within 1 minute after the start of qualifying. How do you decide when to start? Is this a strategy? Do you try to be first or last and avoid being in the middle?

Thanks for your valuable insights!
Nope. If you cross the line before the time (in this case 5 minutes) run off, you are able to finish the lap. So at Suzuka you can do 2 counted laps in a row.

Pretty uneventful run for my Aston Martin race in low B GT2. Started 14th, finished 12th doing a 5M/10S. No offs, no penalties but sadly no pace. Hopefully it will show up at Daytona.

Oh, and the annoying livery-wrecking number boards are still present.

Mildly bemused by people saying they're doing 10 laps on softs at Suzuka. I did some practice last night and 13M/7S is about the best I can manage in the GT-R.
Being slow helps (in my case anyway).

Quali is 5 minutes + some extra time to allow people to finish their laps. If you started the 2nd timed lap before the 5 minutes are over, you can finish the 2nd timed lap as well.

Strategy is up to your own preferences (and where you get out). I personally prefer to run on my own, away from other drivers to focus on my thing. You should leave at least 3-4 secs gap to the car in front.
Slipstream is off in quali so that is not something you need to consider.

Qualified 14th, started on Soft, changed to Medium in lap 6 or 7, got 3 sec pit line penalty (:embarrassed:) and ended the race on 10th place, not bad, but while I'm still mid C, I'm loosing DR almost every time, need to focus on 8th place at least... will not be easy, but I did two mistakes today and without them, maybe I would be a bit higher on the board... maybe.

Started 3rd (very good lap tbf, no idea where it came from). Top two started on softs, I (and just about everyone else I think) was on mediums. Pole sitter went wide at Spoon on the first lap and got back past me on the next. I ran pretty comfortably in 3rd with a few cars behind me getting close then going off track before I pitted on lap 13. The second stint was another GT-R chasing me. He pitted a lap earlier but he was clearly faster. He got a good run out the chicane but he went wide at Spoon so I took the place back, and that was that.

Finished 3rd for 148 points in 40:40 which was about on track with my practices. I think I did a 40:39 today before the actual race. My practices were all on my own and that's largely what happened today, so that helps.

That was me, using my wheel-only account (Norbert Wheeler). I was planning to get to the end of the lap before i caught you, then immediately drop back to give you guys space, it was a good lap and I knew it would be my best (which it was). My race went ok-ish, started P7 on RS, tapped into T2 and dropped to P13 but was P8 by my pit stop at the end of L7, I was battling a yellow Nissan which went onto RS at the same time but I kept up with them on RM as we both gained a couple of places, I drew alongside going into L13, they blocked and sideswiped me a couple of times, I had the line into T1 so they just didn't brake into T2 and punted me off before continuing on their way. I didn't lose any more spots but couldn't catch them again so P6. Ah well, DR up I suppose, but having been able to do some lovely clean league racing recently going back to sport mode feels like it's even more full of Bertie Dastards than before.

Then I had to shut down GT7 in order to go and play this huge multiplayer RPG I seem to have become involved in called "Office"...🙁

Good racing today all!
Ah fair play. I saw what happened to you whilst studying the replay. Another silly and unnecessary dive into T2. I'll try and remember the name and say hello next time. Good luck for the rest of the season.

I tend to leave the pits at 4:30 remaining to allow the crowd to go so I should get a lap to myself. Unless chased by another GTP member that is. It ruined both my laps as it was at the end of the lap. I crossed the line with 4 seconds left so was able to get a second one in. Obviously I was going slower as I had spun at the end of the previous lap.

Of course they are. They are always there. I put them on the when doing liveries so I don't pop a decal underneath.

Qualified P4, got punted L1 coming out of turn 1 and finished P7, very frustrating to be a DS (I just came back to the game after several years off) when I was an AS back in GT Sport. The drivers are so dirty that I fear I’ll never reclaim A level, oh well, I’ll simply have to learn how to become a “demolition derby” driver I expect but I do resent the lack of decorum and sportsmanship provided in the D class 😁. Here’s to great racing and good luck to you all in todays races!

I made it home to do the last slot but after a long day at work and the 2 commutes I'm trying to muster the motivation
I didn't muster the motivation, daughter needed to get to dance, dinner needed prepping.

We all have moaned about these GT1 slots and basically I just want to add to the moaning.

I can if I'm really clever with my calendar and testing work flexibility limits do these slots, but it's a risk/fun/reward thing as I don't care for the credits personally.

I genuinely don't think they want 45 year olds doing these races and that the slots are designed for a different demographic than family man with a normal job.

The down side is, I'll do less practice (less GaaS play hours), I'll be less inclined to be a grid filler in these lobbies and most importantly I'll just less enjoy the product when this is the only race outlet that offers a semblance of not being a dressed up sprint race (they are but they are usually longer in Gr cars)

Breathe Glen, Breathe.

That was a tough crowd for me today. I ended up having a good race in the NSX (very first time using it online!), but sadly towards the back of the grid. I was put into a higher points lobby than I usually get, and I was not on the pace. Suzuka's not one of my strongest tracks.

My free practice best (1:58.2) would have made for a mid-grid start at best, and I couldn't put anything like that together in qualifying. Ended up starting P14 on the Mediums with a 1:59.2.

Lap 1 was a bit of a nervous affair as the Lexus and Toyota in P13 and P12 respectively ended up going at it through the S-bends in sector 1, then coming out of the hairpin. They swapped positions, and then pulled a bit of a gap on me over lap 2. Someone must have binned it at the start of lap 2 too as I gained a position out of nowhere. The gap closed again on lap 3 when the Toyota sent it down the inside into turn 1 to take the position back.

From there I ended up following the Lexus around for a while, losing a little bit of pace across the lap except for the hairpin where he was really, really struggling to get the car to turn in and I'd be right back up his bumper again. I could tell he was a YouTuber so I popped on to his livestream to say hello afterwards, and after watching the race from his POV he really did not like the Lexus on that particular bend. 😅

We stayed in a bit of a train until lap 9 when the Lexus faltered a bit going through the S-bends. I thought about trying to go around the outside but didn't quite have the grip to do it cleanly without a tyre advantage so ended up falling back behind him again.

On lap 10, I got one hell of a fright as the Lexus suddenly drifted left going through the S-bends and slowed down, letting me through. Really caught me off guard, especially in VR! I was wondering what on earth had happened, but after speaking to him it turns out his wheel had done something weird and unexpectedly panned the camera left. He couldn't see where he was going and moved off the racing line to try avoid causing an incident.

That then gave me clean air to run in as the Toyota had managed to pull a ~2 second gap (I think) from the Lexus, although I did have a BMW sniffing at my rear bumper, wanting to take my newly acquired P12 away from me.

I took the Toyota's position on lap 11 as he overshot Degner 1, moving me up to P10. (I gained a position passing the pits as the McLaren starting P11 began on the Softs.)

I came into the pits at the end of lap 11 to switch to Softs, came out in P13 and found it was net P11 after the next lap when everyone had taken their pits. The McLaren was a few seconds up the road from me. I managed to reel him in over the course of the stint with the tyre advantage, getting alongside on the run down to 130R on lap 16. He conceded P10 and lifted to let me pass as I had the inside, then kept me honest over the last 4 laps as the tyre advantage faded.

P10, 167 points. Lower than I aim for, but realistically I wasn't going to get much more in that lobby even if I'd been on my absolute best and started further forward. I was not in the same league as the winners today, who were almost 30s faster than my best full race pace in a private practice lobby, and my actual race time wasn't all that far off of that.

After the physics update last week I got a chance to test drive some cars on monday. After 3 laps each I had to state that every single lap with the Ferrari was faster than the NSX, GT-R and Ford GT. I love Italia and now I am in my first season with Ferrari (Louis, I feel you! 😂)

The only Testing was 15 minutes before start and it felt good right fron the start. Some 1:59 and even one 1:58 without trouble is fine for a C/S driver like me. The qualifying is good fun in this series and I could get in fact get the pole position in the last moment of the qualifying! (Louis, I really feel you! 🤣)

The race was fair but my minimal preparation led to unforced errors and a fine guy named "no_brakes" earned a well deserved win. This is how it looked at the start of the race.

I am happy with the Ferrari and look forward the other races. Now I know that the new medium tyres are worse than worn softs and we will see where this leads to... (Thanks for reading this nonevent, Louis! 😭)

I Wish all races were this good. Signed with Lamborghini. This was a 321 point lobby full of top drivers (myself excluded) I qualified with a time of 1:58.135. Good enough for 7th on the grid. I out qualified Super GT, by a tenth. Finished the race with 254 points, after some truely epic battles. Super GT on his day
(like today) is incredibly fast. I managed to stick with him for most of the race, but he somehow grinded his way through the field, from 9th to podium. He definitely wins driver of the day. Ironically, I came home in P Steve! I gained some decent DR in the process and likely to feature in his next video! Happy days!
