It seemed wildly unfair to change the characteristics of the cars part-way through the season when drivers were already locked into their choices.
Gotta wonder if that was a deliberate decision by PD? Especially considering this was an exhibition along with the obvious data collecting with two Gr.3 dailies this week. Top splits might have looked a lot different if they had updated prior to the series.

Or PD just being PD.

I'm not sure the cars are that different from before. You just have to drive them differently.

It was definitely calculated on their part and the dailies testing. That's why this was an exhibition season to do this sort of stuff.

There is a little bit of people adjusting and a bit of placebo happening as well.

The cars just feel more weighty and braking is more the focus now other than that and slower lap times it's not as massively radical as you think.

I am going with the latter. Especially because - as I recently just learned - the BoP for the actual WS races (like, the in person event with the super king cyborg aliens) is different than the BoP we all get. So... like, what's the point/purpose of messing with our BoP half way thru our WS races? Maybe there is a legit reason, but every time I try to justify/quantify why PD is doing something I just... can't.

For that: "Hey PeeeeeDeeeeee! CMON MAN!"

Changing the physics was a derivative change to the cars but they literally changed the BoP on of the Gr3 cars. Some of which we can see (power, weight, and PP) and a lot we can't (set-ups). So they are definitely different than they were pre-1.49.

Absolutely and I don't disagree, but when you compare race experiences and peer lap times it appears that all the cars got slower or we need to adjust.

What I don't think is the cars suddenly handle weirdly, just heavier if I was simplifying it.

Was there some nerfing behind the scenes? Probably that as well but being fair why nerf the Citroen or Suzuki etc when nobody uses them?

It's probably way more nuanced than I'm making out but I do believe that muscle memory is a lot of the issue for all of us (me)

Just one race at the end of the season for me:
GT2, 97 pts. for the win
(sorry no race pics, because the old man forgot to save the replay. Again 🤦‍♂️)

I had the worst quali of this Manu Cup season. I was the 1st car on track, but my driving was way to defensiv. So lap 1 was a 1:59 and lap 2 was an even slower 2 min something. > P14

My actual plan was to start on RS, but this far back i thought it's better to go on the RM first.

Turn 1 was ok, i gained one position and also lost one = +-0. Later in the lap i realy gained a position as a guy went wide at "Goodyear Kehre".

Lap 2: at the exit of the "Mercedes/AMG Arena" the Aston in front of me had a big slide and i thought that is my chance to pass him. But i've hit the pedal too hard, lost the back and met Barry > DFL.

It took 3 laps but i managed to close the gap i've caused with my crash. Until then i already was P15, because another Porsche completly missed the "Googyear Kehre".

At the back of a fighting bunch i made some positions, while several cars left the track at the "NGK/Veedol Schikane".
I gained another Position as i had a better exit out of the "Schumacher S" than the guy in front of me. At that point of the race i didn't knew which position i was.

The french guy in front of me took his Aston to the pits and i had a little gap in front of me as well as in the back.

I went to change to RS after lap 10. I was now again right behind the french Aston. Following him we passed a McLaren, who spun at turn 1. He was now P8 and i P9.
In the final lap i was right behind his bumper on the way to the "Schumacher S". He had a little slide at the exit and i could pass him with a better acceleration.
I took this position home and was surprised as i saw i finished P7. In the leader board i saw a spanish guy "forgott" to pit and had 2 min penalty.

After beeing last in lap 2 i'm very happy with P7. Even with a better quali i haven't excpected more.

With positions 3, 4, 4 and 7 this is my best Manu Cup result so far.

GT1 8p slot 218 points up for grab.
Quali P5 with 55.663, about 6 tenths of FP time.

I started on RS in case damage is received. Survive T1 but lose a place having to avoid a crash. Fighting at the top for the first few laps until some contact and I slowly work my way up. I pit on lap 7 with the other two in front a behind me. I come out in p4. Move up to p3 for pitting. p2 ha pulled away and p4 while on my butt for a bit, made some errors and drops back about 2 seconds. I make some mistakes but no penalties and try to keep it together. P4 is catching up but I hold p3 for 200 points.

End the season with 405 points and happy overall with the results.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get one or more of the races from the first two live events:
  • Watkins Glen - tuned road cars
  • Road Atlanta - Red Bull X2019
  • Eiger Nordwand - Honda RA272
  • Dragon Trail Seaside - Red Bull X2019
Now that RA272 at Eiger is a daily race, might want to scratch that out.

Hey, do you think Gran Turismo will show us the August update at the live event this weekend?
No. Also the live event this weekend is in its own thread, as this thread is really for discussing the online races.

Perhaps. This is PD we're talking about, so who knows?

The road cars at Watkins Glen was also done as a daily race right before the Montreal event, so I suppose by the same reasoning we could eliminate that one.

I'd agree that one of the X2019 races seems most likely.

We had the X2019 time trial at Road Atlanta a few weeks back so we should all be experts at driving that combo now, right? Maybe that's the one that we should expect.

Nations Cup 2024 Exhibition 1 season has been announced.

Round 1 is Dragon Trail - Seaside in the X2019 cars. Round 2 is Eiger Nordwand in RA272. I don't remember the other two and the schedule page isn't loading for me yet.

Edit: The UK page is loading. Round 3 is Monza in SF23. Round 4 is Watkins Glen in Gr.3.

New physics, muted force feedback, two races involve high-downforce cars and a third using the RA272 on Comfort Softs?

Sounds like carnage in the making. I largely skipped GT7 the first couple of weeks after 1.49 launched and I'm still trying to get to grips with how different things feel so woe betide anyone I end up trying to race.

Wait, what? First two Nations races are the same as what they JUST DID at the official event?

Monza could be fun but will probably be a shrimp show... plus heavy damage? Not so sure about that; the race will be over for most of the grid before exiting T2 L1.

Watkins with Gr3 is always a good combo but that should be saved for a Manu race and not Nations.

I hope the Manu schedule is announced soon. With the Prague event happening late September, I'd suspect it'd need to be soon (and probably another very short one, aka four races I'm assuming).

I doubt we’re getting another manufacturers season until after Tokyo, unless they switch back to Wednesdays.

Interesting to note, the Gr3 race at Watkins shows light damage for GT1, and no tire wear for qualifying. That's gotta be a typo.

Why would they have heavy damage everywhere else (especially SF cars at Monza) but light damage for Gr3 at the Glen?

I doubt we’re getting another manufacturers season until after Tokyo, unless they switch back to Wednesdays.
First thing I thought when I saw this week's C was it was a pre-curser to an upcoming Manu (basically like last week's C is for this Nations).

My guess is that the FFB is as they intended as they haven't acknowledged that it needs fixing etc.

Crazy I kno but PD works in mysterious ways....as we all know....

Hmm

Anytime i watch racing they spend time illustrating how drivers are, ‘real athletes too!’ So its very perplexing that the raciest of car styles is drivable with fingertips on the ddX. Let alone other wheels.

Also, i feel this concept of corporate people actually knowing what their doing, and not being a vampiric pack of backbiting weenies, with sociopathic tendencies, is…misplaced.

(Very late reply) Maybe I just have a positive attitude, but I kinda thought this to be comparable to how F1 teams develop their cars through the year. Many titles have been won and lost thanks to mid-season changes.

We also knew in advance that a physics change was coming with rumors pointing to tire behavior being the biggest change. So this mid-season physics change felt real-life like to me.

Once again GT1 and GT2/GT3 get same number of laps, awesome! Yikes, this calendar is pretty bad. If I do take part, I am thinking about playing Super Formula at Monza and Watkins Glen Gr3. Saying this made me realize that I have been participating in minimum number of races for all GTWS events required to get all points. I would say that this is due to a combination of uncreative choices and the introduction of 1-hr Daily Race Cs.
