Is it ever worth pitting to repair damage in a GT1 race?
Probably for engine damage.

For the front bumper and suspension damage that I usually pick up when I get the kink wrong, though, I'm not sure. I lose about 1.5-1.8s per lap in that case. I usually just ride it out to the end of lap 11, but I wonder if pitting on lap 5 for softs (5RM-6RS-7RS ) would end up being faster. I haven't tested.

If the damage comes after lap 6, I feel like it is probably better just to ride it out.

Depends when, and what.

Rear bumper damage is about 1s a lap slower. Anything more and you're looking at wasting more than a pit stop so you may as well pit in if there's a chunk of race to go. A pit stop is about 18s with 5s worth of damage being fixed I think

As @Moose78 said, a two stopper can come into play if you have damage and have to pit anyway.

I'll be racing at 2pm, I'm sure I'll find out if it's worth it or not 😂😂

Is there any indication from the early races on what the DR formula change looks like yet?
Someone who uses a DR tracker could probably provide better evidence, based on my experience just now looks like I lost about 20% on a 14th place finish in an A lobby. That's just purely on my eyeballing. To me, this change just gives people more incentive/reward for being dirty. I had qualified 6th, was spun on the straight by dirty driver who finished 5th. He gets a big DR boost, no SR hit, and I end up suffering a large penalty for trying to be clean.

GT1 Class - High A - 2pm UK Time

Qualifying went worse than expected, was aiming for a 1.32.8 (best in practice was a 32.5) but ended up with a 1.33.5, qualifying only in 6th for the first race of the season...

Started on medium tyres due to my grid slot.

The start of the race was lovely and clean for the most part. I slowly made my way upto 4th after lap 3, with a couple of spinners at the kink ahead of me helping up the order. No contact, clean racing, just mistakes from those two.

The top 4 were neck and neck, less than a second between us at times. At the end of lap lap 5, the 3rd placed driver pit, however this was the scene at the start of lap 6 down the front straight:

1948e8157da9-screenshotUrl.jpg

I ceded this corner because I knew I could keep up and didn't want to cause unnecessary damage to me or others.... Thankfully, I managed to make my way upto 2nd at the end of the lap, pouncing on the car ahead running wide at the tight left hander and I was now chasing the leader. 3rd place pitted end of lap 6 having started on softs - good news for me having kept up on mediums.

I kid you not, from lap 7 onwards, 1st and 2nd were never seperated by more than 8/10ths of a second, including when we both boxed for softs on lap 12. I was quite happy sitting behind him waiting for them to make a mistake. This was the view of the top 2, more than 5 seconds ahead of third, at the start of lap 18....

1948e8179e343-screenshotUrl.jpg

The crowd were on their feet. One managed to capture some drone footage of the pair heading down the start/finish straight and into turn 1 for the 18th and final time, as ElectricNaz made his move on his German rival....

And with that, the pressure had paid off, the German driver couldn't catch his slide after putting a wheel off the track with heavily worn tyres, and I had the lead!

5 seconds ahead or so of 2nd now, I didn't do anything categorically stupid (doing a Naz) and I took the flag for 227 points!

And that is my first ever GT1 victory! I am delighted, amazed I didn't get a clean race bonus because I don't think I had any contact with anyone /any wall at all during the race, and certainly no damage. But over the moon!

Let's gooooooo!

Huh. Can’t be that drastic of a change then, I went from seemingly full B-bar to seemingly full B-bar after finishing 2nd with doornumber 9, beating at least 3 A-rated drivers.

The maximum DR level increase will be part of the update. The increase in variation starts with today's race. Details here.
It's not really clear to be fair. It infers that the change starts on the Exhibition beginning on the 22nd of January, but not starting from the round on the 22nd of January.

The way its worded it could only be implemented for the last round and it would still be right as the exhibition did start on the 22nd.

Good point. I totally missed that ambiguity.

Relatively dull race for me as the lone Audi in a sea of Hondas (and one Nissan). Not a track I excel on (lol, what is) and not a car category I enjoy (but more than X2019s), and went from 14th to 8th entirely based on a bunch of crashes for other people and a race-long feud behind me which prevented anyone getting close until the final lap - although the guy who finished right behind me was about as fair as I've seen in online racing and could have stolen my spot with a lunge at any point on the final lap.

Oh and 8M/6S, but the softs were losing a LOT of time at the end - although probably about as much in them as new mediums.

Got sucked into dirty air and picked up 9 seconds worth of aero damage at the fast left kink! Be careful out there!

Was lucky to recover to P10. Gah, knew I should have joined some test races, rookie error...

First gtws race since I got to A+.

Slot 2 GT1
Massively off pace in qualy had me start in p11. Almost accordingly to the DR difference , as I had door #13.

Race starts off and I immediately lose one position to a dutch rammer behind. At the left- right heading into the parabolica kinda corner the GT-R in front spins off and I get back to P11. At the kink one car ahead bins it and another is forced to slow to avoid collision. That s the first lap done and I'm P9. From here it's just steady pace try to keep within slip range . Avoid mistakes and try to save the medium tyres until lap 12. Some people on alternate strategies and more people losing it at the kink . By lap 12 I'm in 4th with a 2s gap behind.

Luckily no one was able to undercut and the gap only extended until the end. But I was nowhere near p3-p1 pace. They finished the race 18s ahead .

TCS 1 whole race saved my tyres a bit coming out of the traction zones , as by the end of the first stint managed to pick positions from people struggling with dead mediums

257 points my best ever and a great start to nations

Good luck for anyone going for the 3rd slot.

As for the Dr increase i don't think it made such a difference or it may not yet be active. I gained 900 points from a P4 which should be a lot higher as almost everyone had much more DR than me and I got similar increases from worse lobbies and results before while in GTWS.

I had planned to test the Lexus, Audi and Honda but I ran out of time for the Honda. When I saw it was bad on tyres I wasn't really tempted either, so I went with the Lexus. Everyone else in my race was in the Honda.

Started 5th, had some good battles with three or four other cars over the first few laps. On lap 6 there was a bit of a pileup between three of them at the tight left hander after the back straight. I was far back enough at this point to avoid it, but they all had damage. Two pitted along with me, I was running 6S/12M anyway. Looking at the replay I think that incident made some people do a 2 stop they weren't planning, but I wasn't affected.

I didn't know what tyres the cars I was battling with were on so I planned to just let them past if they caught up, especially knowing the NSX was faster anyway. Pictured here is my car about 5 seconds before I let this guy through, mainly because my HDMI cable cut out for a few seconds and I managed to avoid causing a horrible accident:

Sardegna - Road Track - A_.jpeg

After this I ran fairly comfortably in 5th or 6th until cars in front of me started pitting again and I was up to 3rd. I was watching 2nd catch 1st (they'd done 6/12 and 12/6) and wondered if I could pick anything off. On the last lap the Pole on mediums who'd been leading went wide at The Kink and on to the grass, with the Brit behind collecting him, spinning him round, giving him engine damage and a 2 second penalty. The British guy said "nothing I could have done" in the post race chat and as annoying as that would be to hear, he was right.

150 points, my first GT1 race a complete success. They'll all be this easy, won't they?

Well it was an eventful first race in this B rated GTWS Lobby - EMEA region - 3pm timeslot - UK racer - Using the Lexus RCF GT500.

Started qualifying
, thought i was fast but maybe not as I qualified 16th (lol), so started from the back and kinda used it to my advantage. Watched as the first corner was choas as per usual, progressed up to 13th and battled my way. Bit of argy bargy on the first lap, becuase a south african driver spun out in front of me. Then a french driver, decide to exact revenge on me for him, dunno why and pushed me to the barrier and he crashed out so karma was a B___ch to him.

After that kerfuffull, I chugged on till lap 4 and 5 pushing along to 10th and 9th place respticvely. Battling the three racers it was a hard fought race, the on lap 8 or 9, that same south african racer in a NSX concept GT punted me into the barrier on the last corner.

Annoyed and frustrated, I recovered and carried on, kept fighting, the pitstop helped as I was on RM tyres so could last a bit longer, but then switched to RS tyres and made up some strong ground to capture 9th and a solid beggining 70 points.

Considering all that went on racewise, 16th to 9th is not bad, Overall a mediocre race becuase them NSX cars just dominated and no other vehicle felt competitive, so it annoying when PD do this with a limted Gr.2 pool of cars.

Sadly here is my race:

GT1 - EMEA - Slot 6pm) I was commuting home but a burst water main, traffic lights, traffic carnage meant I got home with 8 mins to spare.

And this time I took my own better judgement and didn't race. One because of no warm up, two heavy damage and three as a lone man protest for not having EMEA evening slots if you are running it on a week day.

That will show them!

GT2 - low B/S

Got PIT-d thrice in one race and it was the only one I could do... Was 4th and having good laps on medium tires, went down to 15th and recovered to 10th because I was the only one with soft tires that far back and most people couldn't keep the NSX under control. Shame, I liked this track/car combo...

Peeked out of retirement for a bit, because my dear friend @Pesselles debuted today in Nations Cup.
Let's welcome him in the fold of GTWS racers!

So, observing Daniel's preparations for this event I got a little excited and decided to try this one round.

EMEA, mid B lobby, GT2

Qualified 3rd after an ok lap.
Nations25-1-qualifying.jpg

Against the flow I decided to start with RS (everyone at the front were on mediums).
A bit of livery bashing on first laps, but nothing dirty, just racing.
At the end of lap 5 I pitted from 2nd and slowly worked my way to 1st on lap 11.

But then ofcourse I had Spanish and Dutch NSX's with softs on my back.
Defended as good as I could, but on the final lap I had to yield, first to the Spaniard, and after back straight to the Dutch man.
The Dutch made a slight mistake in the kink and that allowed me to level with him for the last braking of the race.

I was on the inside so managed to exit in front and bring the second place home... just.

Nations25-1-result.jpg

Racing was mostly pretty clean, so happy about this result.

Got on with 0 practice and 4 minutes to spare due to the cardinal sin of having a job with normal working hours.
Quali'd 12th but had a solid race, finished 6th with a photo finish (0.023s) to 7th, battling all through the last couple laps. Really fun.

Unfortunately couldn't save the replay because my storage was full and even after you free up space you can't save it again. Game wouldn't want me to be having too much of a good time playing it, after all.

Show off....I had 8 mins to spare so not only do you out race me you out work me!

Hasn't epsilon-5 or whatever recalled you yet!

I just had a really good race ruined by GT's physics. :irked:

I started P6 on Mediums, managed to hold my own in the pack (except for one guy who started behind on Softs) which was encouraging as I'd done a couple of lobbies and found myself getting overrun on lap 1 by people who were also on Mediums. Everything looking good for a top 5 or 6 finish in spite of being really nervous from not doing any proper online races in 3 months. My legs were actually shaking during the race from nerves - thankfully my right was the worse one!

Roll around to the last few laps and I'm in a 3 way fight for P4 with a German and a South African. Really, really close but respectful stuff. I had absolutely no idea how it was going to end up.

I found myself on the outside of the hairpin at the top-right corner and went deeper than intended, letting both the German and South African past. Suddenly there's a Polish driver who seemed to be trying to do a last-to-first alongside me, forcing a 2-wide entry into the kink at the start of sector 3. I end up on the grass trying to back out, understeer a bit going through it and clip the wall.

With GT7's physics being what they are, well...

Just... sigh. Fair enough, I messed up and clipped a wall, but that's so completely unrealistic.

I still ended P8 with a CRB and took away 187 points so it wasn't a disaster, but still very disappointing considering what I had been fighting for. I'd go again, but thanks to the ridiculously early race schedule that means I can now only make the final slot, I can't!

Yeah I have to say I agree. The wall physics is pretty bad they have a setting for how sticky it is but it's been a very long time that I've seen 3/4 impacts treated like that.

It's like the barriers/cars have no rebound physics properly modelled. I get it's a gameplay choice but it's frustrating (and at this point realism is out the window)

I'll be honest mate I work somewhere that's super flexi so I get in late and finish late, I'm not a morning guy whatsoever lol. I do my contracted 7.24hr/day and I'm out!

I would've had more time too to be fair but alas... the bus broke down.

Countersteering Assist is banned for this season (for all leagues) - a heads-up:

Hm... not good in my opinion, could at least be ON for us in GT3, didn't matter much in today's race in GT2 car (started number 10 on RS tires, did a full 360 after hitting grass, (I'm not sure CA would get me out of that one.)) had to pit twice, hit the RS instead of RM, but ended up on 11th place in the end, my goal was 10th, so happy with the result. ), but next race is GT3 cars on Red Bull Ring in rain... can be a complete disaster. :guilty:

Maybe even heavy rain. :nervous:

Only time for slot one today. My eldest had his testing for Taekwondo brown belt, so the rest of day was tied up. A 290 point lobby. Quali was a struggle, but I managed a 1:33.3xx which started me in 9th on the grid. Started on mediums, as did most of those around me. P1 was the same guy in Super GT's 3rd slot race (Belesse) His quali time was a mind blowing 1:31.8xx
(top split territory) The race started shakily, I lost 2 positions after T1, but I was over cautious because of heavy damage. By the end of lap 2 I was in 8th due to drivers crashing out or sustained damage. The pack was split between 4 up front and 5 cars in my chasing pack. To be fair to those drivers around me, we all kept it clean but fair, and that is the way you gain trust and respect from other drivers. None of us were willing to risk it all. In a race combo like this, that usually ends in failure. At the end of lap 12, we all pitted, I came in position 5th and came out position 6th behind a guy who started his race on softs. The trio of my pack worked to hunt him down, with each of us taking turns to lead. By lap 16 we all managed to pass him, wirh me leading them pack in 5th (of now 4 drivers). I dropped 1 position and took it back again on the last lap of T1. We were all stuck to each other's bumpers. On the final lap of the left turn, leading to the kink. 7th place made an incredible move, which allowed him to have the optimal line leading to the kink. We kept the respect levels high. I conceded 5th and came home to take 6th place and 230 points. Special shout out to Heat0n
(not sure if he's in the group) because he was part of the trio (including myself) who raced with great racecraft and respect. This was a better round than I expected and a pleasant surprise. I hope you all experienced great racing.

Pleasantly surprised with my result tonight.

UK 🇬🇧, Slot 3 GT1 League - DR: A & SR: S

I only had time for one slot today as I had a heavy work day. I had around 15 minutes practice only so was properly up against it.
I forget how much I love the GR.2 Class cars so this was an awesome combination and enjoyed it. I was very out of practice and only managed to Qualify P14 which was disappointing but stuck on the Soft Tyres for the start and managed to make up 4 Positions on the first lap.

1000022403.jpg

Made the Softs last until the end of Lap 6 and made it up to P7 had a very strong stint on the Softs and lots of people running out of talent and clounting the walls and spinning.

Pitted and came out in P9 fresh rubber and going back to TC1 to conserve my power out of the corners. Front runners started to pit Laps 10/11/12 & I managed to make it up to P4! Couldn't believe it considering I had no practice to this point so just learning as I was getting settled into the race.

I had some rubbin's racing with Marbac exchanging P4/P5 as P3 had slowed up a pit as he pitted late into the game. Soon as he got up to speed P3 set off comfortably ahead on the Softs & Myself & Marbec was very close to the end. He did manage to pull away in the end and kicking myself P4 was definitely on the cards but lost a little pace in the last 4 Laps.

Excellent race and chuffed with the result of P5 from P14 in the GT1 Class. 🏁 =153 Points

Sadly going to miss this weekends Race which I'm so gutted about as love the Red Bull Ring GR.3's hope you all had a good session today! I'll be around for the Cappuccino's next Wednesday 🏁
