If GT8 will continue these events, it really needs a more robust damage model. This is just bumper cars and looks ridiculous.

What's more embarrassing are the rain effects in cockpit view. And they're even showing it 🤦‍♂️ . It looks like GT6.

We all remember GT5...

...but it's beautiful to see the wet track and the sun coming out

Subaru's race to lose it seems!
The lambo is getting closer

I would ask why is the full wet tyre so bad that nobody has even considered using it, but I guess that's true to real life racing as well to be fair...

Happy to see a non Japanese win! Having seen the Olympics event, I knew that this race will be dirty but wow, this race was way dirtier than it should be. The penalties handed out be stewards were really inadequate to deter dirty driving.

The constant dirty racing from lap 1 to the final lap spoiled what could have been a fun watch. But I still had fun watching in last 10 laps.

Gran Turismo is not fit for serious e-sports in my opinion.

Makes me wonder why they don't race with damage set to heavy!

GT7's rain is much better. Don't judge from the streams, on the PS5 version I recommend Autopolis 16:00 to see how much better it is now..

A quick look at the official YouTube channels, there where approx 10k viewers for the qualifying event.

For the final they surpassed 12k.

Nations events tend to have higher viewership than Manufacturers.

I did the stats for GT live events last year so though i should do it again. Here they are:
  • Peak across all feeds at ~ 13 200 viewers
  • Main feed peaked at 5141 viewers
  • 3 feeds over 2k (Main, Japanese, Spanish)
  • 4 feeds over 1k (PlayStation)
  • All feeds over 580 viewers
  • Quali Start 7K
  • Quali End 9.1K
  • Race Start 9.9K
  • Race End 12.5K
  • Only French and PlayStation feeds peaked at the race end, 5 others peaked as Porsche passed Subaru
  • Japanese feed peaked at roughly 10-15 minutes before the checkered flag

Thought to do a comparison vs last year's showdown but actually don't have those figures so here's a comparison with last year's World Finals (Manufacturers) instead:
  • Peak: 13.2k vs 14.2k
  • Main: 5.1k vs 6.1k
  • All feeds were over 600 at last year's WFs
  • -> Basically only the main feed was down
Changelog
Edit: Added comparison
Edit: Changed commas to dots for the sake of consistency as I used those last year
Edit: Lots of other small changes

Hmmm,i remember the last Manu race i watched(the one with rain at Spa) peaking at 6k,seems like a improovement,i don't remember any GT stream reaching double digits live

Last year's World Finals were at 14.2k for Manufacturers and 17.5k for Nations Cup.

Edti: Changed commas to dots for the sake of consistency as I used those last year.
Also note there's also stream on Twitch (PlayStation and GranTurismoOfficial). That may change things.

So, notes to remember if you want credits in 2024: Pick the Showdown manufacturer team that has a driver missing, as both have been won by such a team.

This post will come down rather harsh but I really don't understand what Sternberg was doing there. I assume that he qualified on controller and never really seriously practiced on the wheel cause there's no other way to explain how he was losing 3-4s per lap to Serrano even with the tyre difference. Loved how the team did their best not to put blame on him and how he said he was just "being cautious" but drives like this really expose how flawed the eSports aspect of this game can be (forcing controller drivers to compete on the sponsored wheels). To add insult to injury this race in general was a very poor advertisement for the game. Racing standards were abysmal, sportsmanship was thrown out of the window and in general if this is the majority of the drivers that represent this game, then GT will never make it back to the FIA list again.

What i don't understand is that it used to be better,at least in the front row
I remember in the Fraga era, there were some really close battles and you could say Fraga being a real life driver helped but Latkovski and Hizal were also really good.
On the controller vs wheel,i remember there being a driver that also only played on controller before the events and he did alright with the wheel,i wouldn't blame the Dualshock players just yet.
