I've been enjoying the large 20 car grids in single player but have noticed that a couple of tracks have a smaller grid of 16 (ie the new combined Kyoto track and if memory serves one of the reverse layouts of another track which is strange because the standard direction of that track can have 20 cars).
I'm hoping that when the new track arrivals release throughout the coming
year that they have the ability to race with at least 20 on track.

Daily race A has a 12 man grid.
B has a 16 man grid.
C has a 20 man grid.

Nothing to do with the track. It's a rolling start so you can put on as many as you want.

I should have been more clear. I'm referring to Custom Race in Arcade Mode. I can set a field of up to 20 cars in all but two of the tracks, which only allow a maximum of 16 cars in the race.

I have been asking this for a while. Good to know. It was difficult coming down from 45 cars in PC1, to 32 in PC2. 20 cars are better than 16. Can you select Multi-class or assign AI cars to the grid?

As far as I know neither of those things are possible in Custom Race Mode.

...the only race I saw more then 20 cars (if I remember correctly), was one of the challenges with RSR, 30 laps. And even better it was a multiclass race... I was so hyped...

I think I read on gtp, about 24 car grids online. Is there also qualifying in single player?

Some races can be up to 24 online, though I haven’t been in a race with that many for a very long time. There is no qualifying in single player.
- in GT League the player starts in last place
- in Quick Race the player starts in 11th
- in Custom Race we can choose our starting place. I have a random number generator app on my phone for those occasions when I want to leave it up to chance.
