Greece is out again. Can't they find a better system of evaluation? Top 20 from each country? Why not overall top 100 or 150 from every country in europe?(if they want to keep it in europe).

Our US friends should like the opportunity to take the TT to have a shot at it. 👍

It's hard to believe the US was not included, but N.Z. and Aus were included. Not that I'm complaining:D

Great news! I probably won't be able to post any laps until mid January though. :scared: Good luck everyone and don't try too hard :sly: Hope to see many GTPrs on the leaderboards :gtpflag:

Great news...here we go again eh Timo??...hope we are more furtunate than the last time....

spyrrari.

Looks like they have chosen only the PAL countries to compete in this event.... I'm not sure if im taking part but I definitely want the demo of course... but good luck to everyone thats joining in 👍 Competition should be stiff this time around since people have been playing GT5:P, but maybe the new physics are really different... who knows...

Pffft, man no US, eh? Looks like we'll probably be the last to get GT5 when it releases at this rate :ouch: GL guys!

Thanks for at least keeping us in mind Timo  👍

I am really dissapointed that we were left out again, but the same can be said for Japan who probably has the largest number of quick drivers in the world

Hopefully the special TT at least gives us something for our commiserations :) And I'm sure it will be a dog fight, especially between some of my fellows American's (DK, Carl, Zissou, etc.). I just hope our shot at GT Academy will come at some point :scared:

Lasty and most importantly - Good lucky to all my fellow GT drivers who will be competing for a shot at GT Academy. I know how much you all want this, so I wish you all the BEST of luck! 👍

I am :grumpy:. But I probably wouldn't make the top 20, or even 100 anyway so I guess its not a total loss.

Can't wait to get start on this demo. Although I'm not guna make the top 20 drivers, really looking forward to taking part and testing the new physics, car and track!

Wow great news! shame I don't have a driving license and will only be playing for fun :( ... will surely suck when a non driver kicks all there asses

haha only messin guys! ;) Good luck to all and may the best man reap the rewards

Section of new GT5 circuit?

Nurburgring maybe? Or Le Mans?

At least they did make the announcement when expected this time.

:D

Because they want players from every country to get a descent change of getting to the top20. Wich if you take the 100best of Europe, you will probely see the more bigger countries take all the spots. Like Germany, France, Spain, Italy and so on....
Whats the use of have the top 50 of one country and only one driver from an other country, seem a bit unfair to me.

Looks like fun, I just hope they won't be asking money for the download. Will defently give it a try to see how I stack up againt fellow Dutch's player. Not that I have any change of winning :D.

Just read the official rules no need to pay.

Yeah!!! I'm stoked to see Australia and New Zealand in! Time to step up mates.;)👍

The USA and Canada each have their own near-identical contests, which are posted on the NA blog rather than the EU blog.

.

I don't really agree with that for two reasons.

First, it's even MORE unfair to the countries left out, simply because PD wants to select at least two drivers from smaller countries to advance to GT Academy, regardless of how fast or much dedication they've put in 👎

And secondly, the fastest drivers in the world are the ones who should advance...not two drivers selected from each country. That's not fair to the fast drivers from Spain for example, who may have 10 drivers/competitors who are ALL faster than two drivers who advance from say, Italy (just using this as an example). So basically being in a small country with less competition is unfair advantage really.

In the end, I really don't like how PD comes up with selection process, but in some aspects it's good for their marketing in each of the selected countries. But still they leave out big nations like the US and Asia for no real valid reason :nervous: Oh well, hopefully our time will come.

Australian and New Zealand included but not U.S.?

Strange.

I'm not really sure how PD determines what countries are eligible to compete, because there are a lot of countries who have very fast drivers, like Japan and others that I can't think of off the top of my head....who are not eligible for GT Academy.

Australia's fastest and one of the fastest in the world, DHolland, probably brought some recognition to their country, which could have had a factor in PD's selection of eligible countries. But then again, how could Japan be left out if that were the case, given all of their fast drivers. It's all a bit over my head :dunce:

Our prize is super lame, at least IMO. I could care less about going to the Indy 500 (especially to watch Indy cars go around in circles...boring :yuck:)

This is a SCEE run event, it's upto SCEA to do their own competitions.

Which the have (Tanner Foust competition) and will (Indy 500 VIP tickets) for the US and this time Canada too.

PD don't determine anything, Sony does, and because GT Academy is run by the SCEE then only PAL territories can enter, but not all depending on local laws etc. Anything done in the US is controlled by SCEA and in Japan it's controlled by SCEJ.

I highly doubt DHolland had anything to do with SCEE's (not PD) decision to include Australia and New Zealand, it's mostly got to do with legalities.

I see. Thanks for the info 👍

I still think that possibly the fastest drivers from some of the new countries added to the list may have had an influence on their decision making. Australia and Portugal were added to the list for GT Academy II, and I can think of two VERY fast drivers from each of those countries (Dan and Bruno). What has changed from GT Academy 1 that would influence the addition of these two countries/continents? Bruno also held the #1 TT spot at Suzuka with the GT-R for a while (among many other #1's), which is probably the most recognized TT in GT5P.

I personally don't think so, SCEE has to deal with local Sony branches (eg Sony Australia) and local laws, thats the reason why the previous SCEA competition was never eligable in Canada, SCEA after quite a lot of flak answered they tried but Canada has some conflicting competition laws and they will try to include them next time. Now Canada is included but is held seperatly and not directly linked to the US competition.

Great to see AUS and NZ in GT Academy. Good luck to everyone and TT-R in GT Academy 2010! I don't think I can do it as i'm too young. :(

oh yea that sucks!! no question you would get to the national final :ouch:

interesting to see they have banned anyone that has ever held a national racing license, many casual weekend racers would hold one of these, and they wouldnt neccessarily be a pro because of it!

If we could combine my age with your driving, why.....we'd be some sort of super driver.

Stig perhaps.

I'm afraid that romantic notion is just not the way these things are decided. :guilty:
Normally it has to do with creating PR opportunities, media coverage, importance of the countries (saleswise) and who finances the event. The existence of fast drivers in each country would be just an afterthought.
Sony CEE would want to have drivers from as many countries as possible so that each national branch can get the mass media interested in its respective country.

Having said that, I'm definitely very happy that Portugal is in!
I will now maybe have a chance to find out how I rank among my countrymen :sly:
And I certainly hope our friend Bruno (Meagainstyou) wins the portuguese final and spends a good 5 days at Silverstone :) And who knows maybe even moves on :)
