I think it has more to with the fact that they do not want to same 10-20 people every GT Academy, not that "you weren't what they were looking for". To be quite honest, I think each of the final 4 ( -1 Bryan because he won) and some others that did not make it that far, had the ability to go all the way.

Anyways, I hope the CSW comes out by the time the US GT Academy starts. I do not think my launch G25 is going to cut it any more.

It was a quote (Well one i tried to remember) from last year from sony (Feb or Jan I think it was said) but that was what they came out with as a reason. As I know Luca had a few things to say about it. But yes in America it may be different due to the fact its your entire country rather than multiple countries.

I know of the 8 people from the North East that went to Florida 6 went to England... Sorry turbo, I'm banking on those 6 not going back!

Well Ford is doing the Octane Academy... but that is more of a promotional stunt reality show, than an actual talent show.

In my opinion it is pretty sad (for America), when a competition based around a video game is one of if not the easiest ways to get into motorsports. If I ever win the lottery or make a lot of money in my professional life I am going to start a driving school in the US that not only teaches skills, but finds talent. I would also set up a scholarship that enables underprivileged kids get a shot at racing, either as a driver, mechanic or really any part of the team.

We need more Dan Gurneys, A.J. Foyts and Parnelli Jones in this country and less Danica Patricks. The commercialism of NASCAR has reached such a point that when Ford reveals a car that remotely resembles the production car it is seen as "progress". Who will we remember for this generation of American drivers? Again, the answer is saddening.

Please dont say that I will be using a G25 for this year lol.

I got mine the day it came out and have probably clocked over 300 hours on it. Its deadzone is about 45 degrees, the pedals send signals randomly and it has about 70% of its original force feedback. It is finished. Last season I was off the 8th position on the east coast by just under .8 seconds. Even though I quit 1 month before the competition ended due to school, that is a lot of time.

You guys don't want to use either of those wheels. Go out and buy the DFGT for the next Academy. If you were to make the finals, this is the wheel you're going to have to use.

I used my G25 through all the TT's last year and made it to Orlando. I was going to buy the DFGT during the TT's but never did and did terrible in Orlando. Maybe I just didn't have the speed, but I know for a fact that those 🤬 plastic pedals did not help. Just a tip from someone who's been there.:)

Regardless, the whole trip to Orlando was awesome even though I didn't make a good showing. And you can bet the next Academy is going to be even more competitive than the first.

I also agree with this, I know at the UK National finals on the first TT without realising it I was slightly on the brakes for a lap, just because they had no feeling in them compared to my G25

Isn't the T500RS now the new official wheel for GT5? they used the DFGT before because it was the official wheel but im sure it's the T500RS now, so I'm assuming it will be used at the national finals. I'm hoping it's not the DFGT for the 2012 Academy.

As much as I would love them to do that, I can't see them using the T500RS, it was out officially when the last academy was on (I'm pretty sure) but it's the price im thinking about they could either let someone break a £100 wheel or a £500 wheel. It might not be alot to them, but every little counts I suppose?

But hey I could be completely wrong, I certainly am buying a DFGT this week or next, for use at GT Academy. Although after last nights race I need to get back into the rhythm after not playing for awhile.

It certainly would help using whatever wheel they plan to use at the nationals, but it's not a necessity.. Espically if the wheel they plan to use has decent ffb. I.e the T500.

Ye I agree Jann, if it is the TS500 it will be much better, but if its the DFGT, I dunno i find it more of a necessity to get it as it really is so different to other wheels pedal feel and all.

Out of curiosity did you play on a DFGT?

The only real problem is the pedals. The DFGT points the car where you need it to go... but those pedals... ugh. Its not the same after trying the T500RS's or some CSPs.

I used a Fanatec Turbo S wheel with the standard pedals. Never had a DFGT.
I made a conscious effort to keep my left foot off the brake when not using it. So easy to drag the brakes on them.

During the US National Finals in Florida, the Thrustmaster T500RS was just starting to become available. IIRC they had shipped to early buyers but weren't delivered quite yet.

With ABS at 1 in GT5 the DFGT brakes are perfectly adequate. Without ABS, it can be tricky (I spent months not using ABS in GT5 because I thought it was slower :dunce:).

The T500RS was available. I had one in a box next to my rig, but I wouldn't open it until the finals were over. The DFGT is what I used to get there and it's what I wanted to stay acclimated to for the finals.

To quality for the Finals I had a foam sponge zip tied behind my brake pedal, but once we started doing practice races for the finals I took it off since I knew we weren't going to be able to use mods at the event.

I'd recommend qualifying to get to the finals on what ever equipment you prefer, and it you make it swap to what ever wheel the rules state they'll be using.

Cheers!

Ye that was my main focus on day 2 at the nationals not to go anywhere near the brake (Which helped as I improved alot on the wheel as I got both fastest laps out of the Day 2 runners on the TT's :D! all my focus was drawn to foot positioning and less on the car, so definitely somewhere to focus this year.), plus taking my shoes off :P on day 2 helped, hopefully will do better this year!

This has been talked about to death already. There was a specific reason they couldn't include Canada last year.

Today I found an aricle about GT Academy 2012. It's written in dutch but it says:

- GT Academy in 12 countries across Europe
- Belgium, the Netherlands, France & Switzerland

- online time trail starting in march

- 20 best players go to the national finale

- Belgium finale at Spa (probably) (together with the finalist from the Netherlands, France & switzerland)

- 2 candidates per region are going to the big finale at Silverstone (20 in total)

- final at Silverstone takes 6 days

Certainly they have not announced anything for NA (US) yet..

They should let the GT Academy winners try out the Delta Wing car.

I honestly think there will not be GT Academy in NA, the wall riding/glitching from last time destroyed our reputation. So PD figures why deal with it? Just leave them out. It is not like they can not find drivers from Europe and Asia.
