I honestly think there will not be GT Academy in NA, the wall riding/glitching from last time destroyed our reputation. So PD figures why deal with it? Just leave them out. It is not like they can not find drivers from Europe and Asia.

They could just fix track boundary detection and not have to worry about it at all. More than two wheels off the racing surface and lap is invalid. Any contact with the wall and lap is invalid. Seems easy enough.

Since it was secretly hinted at by a Nissan rep on facebook I assume its ok now to say that GT Academy 2012 is definitely coming this year. Announcement should be soon. :)

Think they're just waiting on legal stuff.

I have no hopes of making it to the US Finals, but I'm disappointed it is happening so late this year. I will be going on vacation the first week of June for 3 weeks so that means if I make it to round 2 or possibly 3 I may not be able to register any laps. Last year I just missed the cut for Midwest(slowest region I know) but I was much slower then and driving automatic. This year I was hoping to see how far I've come.:irked:

It will be tough to gauge McFizzle. I think there will be double if not triple the amount of people competing in round 2.

It will be much tougher for sure!

Well, I am excited for this. I am hoping I can do better than last year, I made it through to Round 3 and hoping I can get a shot at the finals this time.

Good Luck to all Participating!

They were about 90% sure that Canada would be included this year. I would wait for an actual announcement from Sony North America before giving up on it just yet.

That's for the UK competition.

In any case, from what I've heard so far, I haven't seen any mention of Canada, so it seems like the answer is no :(

About GT Academy Europe
GT Academy is a collaboration between PlayStation® and Nissan that uses the virtual world of the Gran Turismo® game to unearth real-world racing talent. Now in its fourth year, GT Academy has been expanded to include separate competitions for Europe (UK & Ireland; France; Italy; Spain & Portugal; Benelux; Austria, Switzerland & Poland), Germany, USA and Russia.

Stage One (European GT Academy)
A bespoke, online GT Academy qualification will be open to anyone with a PlayStation®3 (terms and conditions apply), where the fastest 16 gamers in each participating territory may gain access to the National Finals. A maximum of 16 further competitors will also gain access to National Finals events via a series of Live Gran Turismo®5 events.

Stage Two (European GT Academy)
For GT Academy Europe, up to 32 qualifiers from ‘Stage One’ will progress to each territory’s National Final, where the top six will compete to progress to the GT Academy Race Camp at Silverstone.

Stage Three (European GT Academy)
In a new development for 2012, each territory ‘Race Camp’ winner will have the opportunity to compete a national level race in a Nissan car.
One winner from the European GT Academy competition will be crowned 2012GT Academy Champion and will be invited to go through to the intensive Driver Development Programme for the chance to qualify for an international race licence in order to qualify for the chance to compete in the Dubai 24 Hour race in January 2013.

Still waiting on final word for that too. :nervous:

Although I think a restriction would only apply to the top 32 that went to Orlando, and especially those of us who made it to Silverstone.

Imo the ones from the national finals should be allowed another shot, but I do not write the rules.

Well... I haven't played GT since last time where I just missed the cut on the midwest region... I honestly didn't think they would do it again for the US. Time to train hard :)

Hell yes!! I saw the series on Speed, and played through my first racing game NFS Shift2 in the past couple of months. Finally registered on here and looking forward to trying my hand at this. I was checking this thread like religion for news updates. Thanks guys! Time to mine the Craigslist for a cheap GT5.

So is the age limit 16 or 18? All I've seen on age requirements is "driver's license," which I have. Just want to see if I have the chops to make it out of Round 1 . I just need an excuse to get back on GT5.

USA might be 18 but don't quote me on that. Will have to wait until they post the official rules on the USA site.

Hmm, that'd suck. I guess I could just participate incognito, since I highly doubt anything will happen. Just wanting to join in, cause I missed all the corner-cuttin' fun last time around.

I'm sure you could still participate in the contest, they would just replace you with the next guy in line if needed.

I would insist everyone in the "North America" region wait until the contest is officially posted on the North American GT site before assuming you are excluded. ;)
