A perfect example of different techniques working for different driving styles. I take a very late turn in to turn one so my angle coming out is shallow which allows to get on the gas harder & sooner. Overall I found my best laps to be very smooth runs while avoiding at all cost abrupt movements. Since we both have gold I guess it is just what suits an individuals style best works for that individual :)

Yep, and actually I've gotten gold times with an early turn-in and a late turn-in to turn 1. But the exit from that corner makes the lap -- if you're too slow leaving it, you won't have enough momentum through the chicanes. The early turn-in kept me closer to the top ghosts on corner exit.

The Gold time is easy if you just remember slow is fast. I got a 1:34.092 within 15 minutes of driving first time out on Monday. Haven't had a chance to improve that yet.

I have bud. I'm a good driver. No matter what I do I can't get gold.

You can. I did, and I'm a hack.

As others mentioned, load up the slowest driver's ghost replay that you can find, and chase that guy. He probably isn't doing anything you aren't - he's just doing it smoother, and faster. I got from a 1:37.8xx to a 1:36.7xx on my own, but it took chasing ghosts to get me from there to a 1:35.5xx.

You can do this.

Much thanks for the support. Tomorrow after work I'm dedicating my night to trying to beat it and get gold.

I started this last Thursday night (the 14th) and with a lap of 2:27 there were only 86,000 people ahead of me worldwide, less than 10,000 in my USA local region. Gold by 4 tenths was good enough for 3,363 local and 31,063 worldwide. I'm sure more have run it since then but it was already old news at that time. Unless you're in another US region with WAY more people in it or everyone waited a week I think you might have had the rankings switched.

It'd be interesting to check, but I'd be somewhat surprised if there are more than 200,000 with gold even worldwide(or 50,000 local) based on that. Most people do stuff when it's new.

You are right, my gold time was good for less than 8000 world wide, there must be a lot less people golding this event.

I had a hard time too. The key is smooth driving all the way and remember to keep to the driving line for maximum driving speed.

Also, when you brake as you approach a bend, when you start to turn your steering, slight acceleration will kick the back out and help your car turn into the corner.

This made taking a corner quicker for me at least.

Agree with above...SMOOTH IS FAST, & taking the corner apex as tight as you dare. Good luck

1:36:072. That is my best. Now I cannot even beat my best time's ghost! Does not matter what kind of aid combination i use, even no aids, still nothing. Last 4 curves and he is in lead again. I have been trying for 4 hours... No use!

Take a breather. Concentrate on staying smooth. Slow to smooth. Smooth is fast.

Best advice yet, if I don't hit it in my first five laps I go away and come back in an hour or two. When I start chasing my ghost I just get aggravated and screw up even more!

I'm a casual player of GTA. I've spent less than an hour on this challenge altogether. My best time was 1:34.3 from my previous 2 tries.

This morning I was curious so I tried active steering. The best way I can describe it is that it keeps you from steering too much. If you don't turn in soon enough you'll just sail off the corner. So it forces you to turn in earlier if you have a habit of deep diving the corners.

I was really trying to focus on what the steering felt like so I put it in auto trans.

I was easily able to beat my previous time, posting a 1.33.6. I'm not saying active steering did that. Part of it is just that I haven't spent much time on this so it's natural to improve with practice.

One thing must be emphasized. Turn in early enough for every corner. Turning in late will kill your lap.

This is definitely true, your own ghost is so annoying when you keep messing up on the same corner etc

Maybe your being a bit too aggressive on the corners, do u have a video of your lap?

No. I don't have a recorder yet. I started off slow. Got a 1:40.xxx the slowly got faster. Keeping traction and properly banking corners. Started shaving time off my ghost. Just can't get past 1:37.xxx :/ I've tried everything that has been told to me. Even have watched a ton of YouTube videos.

Use a more relaxed driving style.

The 370Z GTA is a car that demands precision and smoothness. Every instant your tires slip, is lost time.

The key of this is to keep your head cool, and remember that sometimes slow is fast.

Keep trying and good luck. 👍

I couldn't break 1:37 but tried an hour stint. Set traction control to 8 instead of the default 7, set the controller sensitivity to slow. And had a go... Loaded my fastest ghost and tried to the car stable and avoid spinning the tires (jumping on the gas too fast). I finally got a gold time, even though I sucked on a few early turns... I tried a couple runs a day ago, but couldn't keep up to my own ghost... This saturday morning I am going to see if i can do a better gold time, before the game ends...

Are you using active steering?

All of the top players have this on strong, My best was 1,35.XXX then with Steering on I got down to low 34's.

Don't give up tho, take the chicanes as straight as possible so you don't lose to much speed on the straight, also feather the accelerator out of turns until your fully straight.

Goodluck

And sometimes you just have to walk away from it and come back fresh.

I found it really aggravating that it wouldn't let you keep turning laps if you hit a cone or put one too many wheels off, because I have a tendency to work on a section at a time, concentrating on this corner or that for a few laps, then working on other sections, until I feel confident enough to try to string the whole lap together as one.

The time trial events let you just keep running, and I'll keep running even when the timer's gone red, because I know I'll string together a clean lap with a gold time at some point.

With the current system for GT Academy, I spent so much time just trying to NOT screw up that I wasn't easily able to concentrate on stringing a good, flowing lap together.

All I can give you is...
don't brake too hard, you'll be amazed with the speed this car is capable through the corners ;)
Oh, and don't turn on any aids, except ABS

Much thanks for the advice. Just can't seem to break the silver. After lunch break I'll be trying again Til it shuts me down.

I didn't do any runs today... On my first lap after the last turn, the game froze up... I was behind my ghost, so it wasn't a good lap, so it didn't bug me, but I figured if it froze up on a great lap I would be really upset, so I just left my best lap as 1/10 of a second into the gold realm...

I am a casual player that only started playing Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 from 18 mths ago. I've never played GT1-GT4 on previous consoles. I only use the controller, no steering wheel or anything too professional...

I had only wanted to get the GT Academy cars, so as long as i get Gold timing is satisfactory... I must say this round is the most difficult in my 18 mths of playing this game, maybe because no previous experience in this Twin Ring Montegi track...

I was very fustrated for a week as i also felt that it was near impossible to get a Gold timing... i thought to myself, if a real Nissan 370Z or 350Z handles like that wouldn't there be a lot of accidents on the road?? Hahahaha...

Then i played with the ghost download of the faster player to see what lines they take & emulate their speed... slowly i went from not classified to Bronze... then just manage Silver timing... Indeed breaking 1min36sec seems to be near impossible... And finally i got 1min35.9sec...

I agree on what someone had said... continuing on & on leaves you fustrated & you end up with even more screwed up timings or off track... take breaks... have a meal, or stop for 30mins & then later come back... also to rest the hands... i tried so hard my hands were slightly cramped...

I got that Gold timing last night in my 3rd sessions. I tried the first lap still silver, then 2nd lap was so intensive i just crossed the line at 1min35.9sec but i didn't realised, the box with the message telling you you got Bronze/Silver/Gold didn't pop up... i don't why... So i continued my 3rd lap but knocked down a cone, i thought i'm not gonna get the job done tonight again... after the round ended i exit & i was surprised that i saw my best timing was within the Gold timing.

For me, a novice player at close to 40 years of age... hahaha... i really need to keep cool. I thought the first few corners i was fast but it was the last 2 that is very difficult to keep speed... especially the last turn... slow down so much... I also tried traction control as standard 7, then 5, then 3, then 1 or 0... in the end i did the 1min35.9sec with standard traction control of 7, no active steering, on auto... as i don't play manual, find it very difficult to have manual, change gears with the controller pad, just not very good with it...

This is by far the most difficult race... the last one very difficult was Leguna Seca using anyone of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution on comfort tyres... glad that in this forum i can find usefull tips, like setting up the car for that race... this one is the line to keep & the braking & accelerating parts must be carefully executed... i did get the car finally... can be done, don't give up... i took 5 days, everyday after getting back from work i try... hahaha...

This round 8-5 seems buggy, when the ghost download car appears, it always have a split second hip cups, then when i crossed the line on that lap that just gave me a gold timing at 1min35.9sec, the message box that will say you acheived watever trophy did not pop up.

And at first the silver trophy is always gone the next day i start the game, showing me i only got bronze, though the silver timing is there... seems like there was a glitch...

I am satisfied finally i got the Gold timing... hahaha...
