GT Academy round 6-5

Way to go cheaters, first it was the seasonals and now it's GTA, what's next? If I were PD I would start banning PS3's.

Which events do I have to set a time on again and do I keep Gold trophy I achieved

I didn't cut and managed to (with a stick) post a top 50 time. I was shocked but now I am falling into the 200s (which I am not shocked). By tomorrow I will be ranked 14,152,502nd

All I know is what I have read here. I will have to check when I get home from work.

I have put a new thread so please post what you find out on which Rounds you have to replay again thanks

What's the purpose of creating a new thread that has already been rectified in this thread? 6-5 needs to be repeated if you completed it prior to roughly 12 PM EDT on 5/29. I'm not sure if everyone needs to repeat it or if the leaderboard is going to reflect the need but just to be safe, redo the test and you should have nothing to worry about.

I'll have to redo 6-5 after work in a few hours. I'm sure I can improve my time as I upset the balance, went wide a bit and lost speed on the 2nd chicane.

I'm still disappointed. I'm not sure what cut was happening as I never saw round 6-5 yesterday but to me on every challenge where you can bang into a car you can still match a decent time compared to the other times without hitting them and making it your own challenge. On this the banging of the first car from what I can see is such an advantage (2-3 tenths). I got a 1:05.1 and can see a 1:04 there without banging a car but low 4's are possible so round 6 to me i won't be doing much more on that 1.

Also on that note the top gear one as well seems a bit odd, I would have thought they would have stopped that wierd random line from outside the markings in, but that's not much of an advantage, just means more chance of perfecting hammerhead :P.

My time on rd 6-5 have not been updated ...., I did some browsing on mygranturismo.net GTA rankings, looks like I still have to do 6-5 to get better time :ouch:, Am I the only one who have times within 5000 using stick controller and without ABS ?, can't seem to find other stick player who don't use ABS ...

if only I can use my old Thrustmaster wheel from my old PC sim days:grumpy:

Sooo...I went through the trouble of looking at your past posts, and they're almost all about these, right up to the very end of your posts history.

Had to do it again, I got even faster now, used to have 1:06.200, now 1:06.140, sitting at 258th, won't be long before I get lower ... but overall I'm satisfied with my no ABS time :)

It would be fun to watch ; having the final event rd 8 with a tuned GTR full lap time trial on sports hard, fuel/tire wear, rain, 100% water on track at Nurburgring 24H 21:00 and no traction control and ABS, I bet the corner cutters won't do good.

Dodzzz, if you still have instability or twitchy rear end while braking, try to raise the front bias, say BB 4/1, 3/0, whatever suits you, then make sure when you turn while braking, never apply more than a quarter bar brake force, that way you can still turn, and smoothly eased off during hard braking, don't just let go off the brakes. Get used to threshold brake is also a good practice. Any tires or suspension setup a car may have, without ABS, the key is smooth precise brake operation and feel the car when it starts to loses it's balance or when it's about to have wheel lock ups, eased on the brakes ...

That's great then, but no offense Dodzzz, the stock suspension was fine, if you care to spare some time to download and view the replays that I posted, you will see that even with no ABS, high BB and stock everything, I could not find any fault with the car. It might just be the driving style that is different. I do hope you could get something out of those 3 replays:cheers:

Agree to this for the most part, but for the racing tires, in my opinion smooth steering and threshold braking would be suffice. I agree that it might be over the top for low pp cars in terms of grip, but to fully make use of the tire, treat the brakes like a throttle on a high power car, smooth and gradual.

By the way, if you look at my 458 replay that I posted previously, high speed braking 1st chicane at Monza roughly needs 50%-40% brake force to get close to locking up - then I gradually eased off to 20% or less, this was on comfort medium, no ABS - BB 7/5, fuel/tire wear, and light rain. So BB is varied to individual, it's just how you apply the brake that counts.
I got to say I like the new tire model, more feedback when close to the limit, cornering, braking, accelerating. Longer to heat up, and last longer as well, at least on comfort that I often use.

I think no ABS and BB really depends on the driver, I did the same test with FT86, stock everything, RS tires, at Monza, no assist, no ABS, BB set 7/5, yes it's not a mistake, I can drive with 7/5 no issues there. Unfortunately I have no capture card, so all i can do is attach my replays, check the 2nd lap for late braking and rapid steering after brakes. Most of the cars I drive in GT5 have BB 5/3, the better the tires, the higher I could go, the less brake force needed to slow down quickly. Most road cars between 400-500pp, I could set max BB 7/5 with comfort medium, no ABS, but I usually use 5/3.

I could do both stock Ferrari 458 Italia at 554pp and Toyota FT86 403pp with comfort medium as well - my preferred tires for less than 500 pp cars, the same exact BB 7/5, no ABS, no assist at Monza. Casual run with 458 at Monz raining, yield 2:07.xxx, the car gives more feedback after the 2.06 update, brakes works so much better without ABS, it felt alive.

In my opinion, the twitching on FT86 is due to the way you apply the brake and steering, practice my man :sly:

There are 3 attachments, they are US version GT5 replays, all the run are done offline in Free Run, each have 2 laps. Feel free to view them:dopey:

I played GT5 with a hand controller and never used ABS, I could brake accurately, 30% to 100%, no problem. I always threshold brake in every corner, my BB for most street cars is 5/3, for some race car I could have 7/4, and I seldom have wheel lock up. I used my old PS2 dual shock with a converter, the pressure sensitive face buttons are great, circle for gas and triangle for brakes, R1/L1 for shifting.

All my GTA are done without ABS, and most of them are within a half second to the 1st rank ( about a week ago ), just saying that its possible to do the GTA competitively without ABS, all you need is to modulate the brake at around 30% to 40% for low speed braking and 50% - 80% for high speed braking- above 180kmh. That, and never brake while turning into a corner :)
The car also behave differently without ABS, definitely more alive during and right after braking.

I think when driving in GT5 with ABS brake aids enabled, the driver can brake deeper and turn at the same time into a corner very effectively, which is a bit unrealistic, as in real life even cars with ABS could not do both effectively, check the video i posted, the Lotus Exige, Porsche 911 Turbo and Lamborghini Murcielago time attack. They brake mostly during the straight and eased on the brake when about to enter the corner.

That's why driving without "ABS" brake aids in GT5, most drivers tend to have different racing line during braking into a corner and the car also becomes less stable during braking hard, some felt that ABS enabled on GT5 also give some sort of "stability" to the car. Ever since I played GT5, I've never used any assist, including GTA. I tried the ABS assist couple of times, the car becomes "dull" when braking, it felt too easy to throw a car into a corner while braking hard. Even my real life car with ABS dont act like that, thus some people said that ABS in GT5 should be simply called brake assist that prevent any lock up and provides stability.

Now I get it that you're pro for not using ABS and others have to depend on ABS as crutch, can you please stop screaming "I don't use ABS" in my face in every post you make?

I think I got into the 1:05.4's for the last test on Sarthe. One of my favorite tracks. Can find a lot of time in the braking zones.

Just logged onto GT-A and my whole 6-5 results is wiped clean, I had about 14 friends on the results there this morning now it's blank. I asked a friend to check his and his was cleared as well but 3 of his friends have new times up now. Anybody else seeing this?

6-5 times were reset for everyone.

Ridox, the only reason you can break and turn with a controller is because it has built in aids, on a steering wheel with no aids apart from abs you have to ease off a bit like real life.

ABS in GT5 is not realistic, but neither is it realistic when its turned off. The main reason for this is the very limited tyre model

You can't brake and turn easily with a stick controller if you don't use ABS and any other assist, try it and see for yourself with any BB, you have to use less than quarter brake force to make slight turn while braking and that mostly works on higher speed, at slow speed, the car will easily lose balance and lock ups usually follows.

I have tried GT5 with a wheel at a friend's place couple of times, for me wheel is a lot more accessible. Stick controller steering is too sensitive, while I have no problems with the gas and brake, although some may have difficulties getting smooth on the throttle and brake, more so if no assist involved.

Try to do a lap similar to what I did on this video - I did this with a controller,
hopefully then you'll get the idea.

EDIT : Thank you Lidyana for helping getting my point across. I honestly wanted people to try something new, driving in GT5 without "brake assist" (as ABS is too vulgar) is a great experience, all aspect of driving is different, we get to feel the true dynamics in GT5 physics without any "intervention" from the game.

I have never belittled others who use "brake assist" or any other assists in GT5. I simply stated how I drive in GT5, and I never give insult or any words that translate others to depend on "brake assist" as crutch. As you seem to dislike the word ABS so much, I'll stick with brake assist from now on, it sounds better anyway.

Yes sure...you knew the "true dynamics in GT5 physics without any intervention from the game" with that DS3 of yours. 👍 👍 Sorry I was wrong

Ha yes, no matter what you do the steering is heavily modulated on a controller to allow you to go from lock to lock instantly.

Being able to turn lock to lock quickly is actually hindering form a smooth steering, I've played GT5 with wheels as well, I am aware of the differences,in fact I drove better on the wheels than on a stick due to this. With wheels, I can steer much smoother and precise as well getting better feedback. The pedals, another good thing I liked, there's nothing better than a set of pedals that works just like in real life.

Stick issue aside, the car physics and the interactions to the road are still basically the same no matter what the input is, the input method is basically works like an interface that translates to the driver and vice versa, which of course determine the end results. Wheels users get the benefit of precise smooth inputs and FFB, while stick users get nothing really other than a little vibration and few buttons to contend with.

I think the main problem is there are many who thought that different input method means different car characteristics/physics in the game, while the truth is differing inputs only means different interactions while driving the car, and that input threshold, feedback and sensitivity are sacrificed due to the limitation of the input device - stick controller.

In my opinion, the game does not help stick user to drive the car at all, it's only given different set of input parameters to play with, due to the limited resolutions of the input device. That's why many stick users have difficulties playing without any assist.

This is what I wrote, " I honestly wanted people to try something new, driving in GT5 without "brake assist" (as ABS is too vulgar) is a great experience, all aspect of driving is different, we get to feel the true dynamics in GT5 physics without any "intervention" from the game."

I don't say you are wrong in anything, I am merely stating what I have experienced while driving in GT5 without any assist - and this aspect of driving assists that somewhat alters the experience and the physics itself due to the " assist intervention" of the game. You should try yourself if you haven't and be honest, it does make a difference to drive without any aids, regardless of input methods used.

Who really gives a damn about the "true dynamics in GT5 physics" on a controller  The only reason for not using aids is to give you a more realistic experience, and you cant get a realistic experience from a controller because you dont drive cars with ps3 controllers :)
Back on topic, improved my time for 6-5 to a 1.04.641 but i seriously doubt Ill go faster than that  Will probably leave it now anyway as theres no reason to improve, hopefully I can go just as fast in 8-5 :)

As I have stated before, you are right, and I agree :) Wished I could play with the steering wheel at my place, setting it up is major hassle on it own as my place is a messy apartment :( Right now I have to cope with what's at hand and make the most of it :sly:
On topic, rd 6-5, my time there won't get any better with a stick :ouch:, the best I could do probably 1:05.xxx.

Strange how some folks seem to be implying in this thread that DS3 users are better off. Since when? General consensus in every other thread I've read is that wheel users have an advantage over DS3 users. Also the DS3 does not have additional driving aids "built in", it simply has a much much smaller steering lock and pedal (trigger) travel, which unless you are setting up your wheel badly, is a disadvantage, not an advantage.

Speaking as someone who uses both :)
