Stijn, you have my deepest sympathies and you know how much I respect you as a GT driver and a great guy. This is genuinely heartbreaking news for you, but you're moooore than good enough to qualify again in the future, and you will do even better racing in GT5 than in time trials at a national final 👍

I really hope you get well soon, you deserve your opportunity and it will come to you.

All the best
Maz

Hi everyone, First post here! Settling in here in our hotel near Silverstone. Heading for a briefing and dinner soon. I have a twitter page setup http://twitter.com/GTACollins which I'll try to keep updated during the GT Academy.
Thanks Daniel.

Daniel, good luck in the finals, i'll be following your twitter page closely.
Good luck to all the other finalists and most of all make every second count 👍

Hi all

Mrs PrudentBear here, I've joined the forum temporarily to pass on any juicy gossip to you from John at Silverstone. Good luck to all the participants! I hope a GTPer wins it!

Apparently they got a big holdall full of very nice kit when they arrived - black Alpinestars racesuits with their names and country flags on, boots, gloves, helmet, balaclavas, T-shirts, caps, jackets, etc and they get to take it all home with them at the end, what a great souvenir.

Lots of media around until Saturday, so the pressure is on immediately. In the UK, the TV series is going to be shown on Channel 4.

John and Alex got to sit opposite Sabine at the dinner last night, although they didn't get much chance to speak to her!

Will post what I know about the media day today on the other thread.

Claire

This is an awesome thing you are doing! We all apreciate it very much! John is a lucky man to have you in his corner. Best wishes to both of you and thank you very much!

Good luck to all the national winners, specially to rootbe. :D

My deepest sympathies for Racer_LP, it's really a bad luck, I hope you get well soon.

Good luck everyone, and particularly to the GTP folks :P I saw an article in The Scotsman newspaper about Alex last week, impressive stuff!

Hey all,

One of the GT finalists, Oenta (Jeroen Kesselring) is my bf and I must say that I am very glad that Jeroen showed me this forum before he left for Silverstone. It is great to be able to stay up-to-date with everything that is happening while it's happening. Great work guys, keep it up!

Good luck, everyone! I just moved and temporarily renamed this forum to the forum home page so it will get maximum exposure during the competition. Thanks to all for bringing the news to us as it happens. Wish I could be there, myself!

GTP_Racer_LP (Stijn Wackenier)(Withdrawn due to illness)
Belgium GT Academy National Champion.
Last but certainly not least, we have Stijn from Belguim. Stijn was placed 2nd in the Belgium Time Trial with an overall time of 00:03:24. A very fast and consistent driver. I've raced, or should I say 'chased' Stijn on many occasions (slipstream is a beautiful thing when you're slower) and has proved himself to be a gentleman driver.

Thanks Sphinx, although you don't need slipstream to keep up with me 👍
BTW, my exact time was 3'23.931 and I was 3rd in Belgium :sly:

So sorry to hear that, Stijn. :banghead: :(

Such bad timing. Hope you get well soon. 👍

Chin up, mate. 👍

Really sorry to hear that :( Can't believe that needed to happen to a finalist! :( :(

Get well soon Stjin 👍

Thanks guys 👍. I could just have finished a 2 hour karting race :ouch:

@maz: Thanks for the kind words, mate. You are too good for this world

I know, I was just struggling for something to say. ;)

Strange, that's the second error found. The stats came direct from the organisers so I took them as gospel. Sorry about that, I'll edit them later.

No problem. Maybe it said I was 2nd cause the winner from the time trails didn't come to Spa 💡.

Sounds like the guys are exhausted but happy after a gruelling 14 hour day, and no respite tomorrow with another similar day and a 7am start.

They haven't been told how they did this morning on the written exam, fitness tests or 370z lap, but John certainly sounded like he enjoyed the driving, a bit hairy with a wet track covered in puddles.

Team UK came second last in the karts, mainly due to picking the wrong pit stop strategy, but they were consistent with no major mistakes. The guys in the top few places were impressively fast.

10 are eliminated at the end of tomorrow!

Yes, I think you can infer from the photo posted on the other thread that he didn't get through unfortunately. But he is really pleased that he gets to do all the remaining activities anyway, just without the pressure. That is incredibly generous of the organisers to do that and not just send them all home.

In fact, john was so happy that they made him do his post elimination tv interview again with added fake disappointment as he wasn't sad enough, lol. He isn't one for bs, he tells it how it is :)

That's very good news that they are staying on. I did read, think it was on Twitter, a comment that stated 10 will be going home after today. So again, good news indeed.

Send our regards to John.

John, Alex and Dan have done GTP proud. 👍 👍 👍

Congrats amowiel! Makes being a Playstation widow all worthwhile :D Lots of luck to Jeroen.

*grins* yeah... somehow it wasn't so bad waking up in a cold bed this morning.

I am very curious on how today will turn out for him. Jeroen hasn't been doing a lot of sports though he is very athletic and competitive. In any case, he was very much looking forward to getting into top gear today in the nissan :).

I read an article about F1 becoming a jockey sport last night, and it very interesting. So, I stewed on the idea overnight, and when I woke up I checked the picture of the 8 finalist again. Strangely enough, they all have the same body type (minus the tall guy but he seems to have a thinner build).

As it was in the GT Academy 2008. TV stories, you know xD

The same I was thinking lol... I knew when I was really sick during the kart race, the cameras came immediatly to me to get an interview and I said: ''Sorry but I cant talk right now Im really dissapointed and lets talk later''. But they kept pushing, of course they wanted to see me like that on the camera so it shows off how hard it was down there... Ah well its a good show/competition with a good prize, and it gets a good amount of media on it and thats what they want in the first place:)
