WHAT IS THIS?
This is my third iteration of my Unity car game project. I've been a big fan of the GT Advance games and always wondered what it would look like if it was given a 3D remaster. And my big plan is to merge all 3 of the main games into one!

WHY DID I SWITCH FROM WORLD TOUR?
To be perfectly honest, I just got burned out from my World Tour project. Plus, the resources I was getting was starting to lag out the game. But don't worry, I'll still use elements from that game into this new one!

WILL I QUIT THIS ONE?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I am determined to make this my primary project. And at this point, I don't care how long it's going to take.

CURRENT PLANNED CAR LIST:

UPDATE:
I added the Test_Data file, however now the zip is too large to upload here. Just PM me and I'll send it to you through email.

What's the file size? It really might be worth uploading it to Dropbox or Yousendit or something like that. The biggest attachment size any of my emails will allow is about 25Mb...not much.

31 MB with the data folder. I could upload to Dropbox, I think I have an account somewhere...

It's definitely not GT or Forza quality, just a basic flash game. I'll put it up on Dropbox tomorrow.

TEST BUILD v2.0 PLANS
  • Better working car selection
  • Car Selection menu changes
  • A new circuit to try out.
  • A more "HD" Laguna Seca
  • Each car will have different control physics.
  • Dropbox Download
Don't know when I'll do this, but I'll let you know when it's finished.

A teaser for the manufacturer menus.

April Test Build

FEATURES
- New Car Selection System (Aston Martin and Ford Only)
- Buttons now adjust to different window resolutions
- Dropbox Download!!!

WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED

- Actually driving the car, only the selection works right now
- Tsukuba is in the game, but I disabled it for the above reason

WHAT'S NEXT
- As soon as I get the driving script working again, I'll add a few more cars to act as a "Starter Pack".
- Tsukuba and Laguna Seca are still scheduled for renovation to match the car sprites.
- Maybe a color selection for cars...

I don't think there will be an update for May, I'm still trying things. Good news is that I finally got the driving working again. Still need to do polishing here and there, but hopefully I can get something out next month.

May Test Build

FEATURES
- Car Controls Are Working
- New Track Selection with 2 Tracks to play: Tsukuba and Meridian Speedway (My home circuit)
- To go with the tracks, a Starter Pack was added:
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Ford Fiesta ST
Nissan Leaf
Saturn SL12
Toyota Yaris
- Added Music to the car selection as well.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED
- The start position for Tsukuba is off, trying to fix that
- Only the Starter Pack cars are playable, the Ford and Aston Martin cars "overlap" each other.

WHAT'S NEXT
- Hoping to get more tracks and cars in, as soon as I can get Tsukuba fixed

If anyone is good with Unity, please feel free to help. I can upload the game files so you can see the mess beautiful organization :)

A little progress report on what's coming in the next build:

- A new manufacturer selection (I liked the way it was before, but it wouldn't work with the new car selection scripts. I might bring it back as a "Showroom")
- More Cars with different physics
- At least one new track
(It takes time to "scan" :))
- Wall Collisions hopefully

Seems good. I don't know about the way tracks look though, with these Google Maps textures. If instead they were drawn (in a simplistic, cartoony style to match the cars), zoomed out, and cars had a higher top speed and weaker brakes, plus the stuff you're working on (like collisions), this could be neat.
Reminds me of Roadclub.

Still working on track design, this is temporary. My plan is to use the track textures from GT Advance.

Also, I got the physics working for individual cars (brakes still feel a little strong, need to play around with them). Just need to polish up the tracks and add collisions and it should be good for another test release.

GT Advance, cool. I played it, it has some nice tracks. If some more stuff could be added on top, like walls and stuff, plus the collisions, that could be neat.

Also, a "top" layer, that appears over the cars, for stuff like gates. If it can have semi-transparency, it could even be used for shadows.

If you guys want, you can suggest cars/tracks/features and I will do my best to add them in future updates :)

It seems I hit a roadblock (no pun intended). This project is obviously not going to be a one-man job anymore...

I need help with the track textures to that it'll match with the cars. I am trying to use textures from GT Advance to help, but I don't know where to start. I also need to have two parts of the image: One for the drive-able area and the other for the wall collisions that I'll be adding.

If anyone wants to help, PM me or post on this thread.

Just realized that next month will mark the 1 year anniversary of my game. I'll try to do something special for it :)

How about a course maker? :D

I made one for GT6, but it hasn’t seen much use since the servers went down. Perhaps it’s possible to export the tracks to the format you’re using?

As great as that would be it's too big an ask I think.
