GT: HD Concept Impressions

This Drift Trial is the worst addition to GT ever, in my opinion. Not only is it near impossible to drive this way with the DFP, but only half of the cars in the game are rear-wheel. The Miata seems under powered and the G35 seems too large for the track.

I am really enjoying the music. It all sounds truly great. However, I do miss the Acura/Honda theme from GT1, I wish it could be duplicated again.

How did you get the DFP to work with the PS3?

I'm having trouble setting up my DFP. Usually when the DFP is hooked up to my ps2, it goes through its usual calibration (spins all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, the slightly back to the left *click* then slightly to the right *click*) process which takes about 15-20 seconds. However, when I plugged in the DFP to the PS3, the calibration process is all out-of-wack. Instead of spinning the wheel once to each direction, it spins twice and followed by blinking LED lights (sometimes both led's flash, sometimes only 1 flashes). It appears the wheel is having trouble calibrating/centering itself. Do you know if there is a special setup that needs to be done in order to get the wheel to work? I just dled GTHD a few days ago and am dying to give it a spin with the wheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure the only FF car is the Honda Integra, and everything else is more than easy to break traction and start a drift.

As for the DFP, maybe it's since I play on the JPN version 1, but it works just fine for me when trying (note, trying is all I can do) to drift.

i have to agree that it would be nice to have more fr cars at least for the drift trial. having ff cars for drift is just silly. i know that people do actually drift ff cars in the real world but it's not true drifting. it's just a**draging.

i wish force feedback worked though. wait i've already expressed that opinion, sorry :ouch:

edit: one thing that i don t like is that i haven t been able to manji down the straight. it s actually easier to do in real life than in gthd. here the car spins waaaay too easily.

I know this isn't anything to brag about, but I pulled a high 1:30 in the Cappuaccino, and I feel very good that I posted a tentative ranking of #65. It means a lot to me so bite me!!! :P

it is pretty hard to manji the straight...in real life there is a lot of clutch involved though, for most people at least.

if you think about it...it's 65 out of many thousands of people playing. that's literally something to be excited about, good job.

I just posted a 1:29" and I think I can definately improve it...since I saw that the top time is using R3 tires, and I've been using R1 tires...foolish me huh? Let's see how it turns out!!

I just clocked in at 1:09.63 with the tuned Evo and should be #1 (since #1's time is 1:10.xx) but it placed me at 25??? Whats going on?
Can anyone help with set up my DFP?

It just hasn't updated?? You should give it a while and see what your rank is, and make sure that you finished the entire lap.

Anyway, I thought I just sucked, but after putting the tires on (R3) I posted up at #17. I have to shave off another second and a half or so to break into the top 5 (only about 1.2 seconds for top 10). Man...this is awesome.

go for it man, don't give up!

I don't own a PS3 yet, but I was just wondering if the reverse lights work?

There's been some talk about no skid marks and weak tire smoke, so I just thought I'd ask.

In my opinion tire smoke was increased to the point where it is noticiable...but it i find it greater when driving the v-spec2

WOOHOO!! I'm now #2 on the Evolution IX (normal car, forward)

#1 is a glitch time, so for the time being I am actually #1

I made a lot of mistakes - left a lot of time on the track so I am sure it will get beaten.

Correct me if I'm wrong but GT-HD runs at 60fps in gameplay and in 30fps with motion blur in replays?

I noticed this from some good quality vids from Playsyde...

Unfortunately....no there are no reverse lights yet. I know they're kinda pointless, but if they can make brake lights, why can't they just throw in working reverse lights?? Anyways, there are also no skid marks, and yes the tire smoke is kinda weak. I'm sure a lot of this will improve for future versions of GTHD, and GT5. Hoping for a damage model in the next GTHD demo :sly:

Thanks RacingFreak2k3. And yes, I know reverse lights are a small point, but it is a point of what other race games have and what people are expecting from the GT series.

Thanks again.

Questions.

Why do skid marks and reverse lights even matter? People should be mroe concerned about physics and upcoming damage, not skid marks and freaking reverse lights....that's just ridiculous.

One word: Immersion. Coming around on lap two and actually seeing where you spun off the track helps with the whole "realism" thing.

That, and Polyphony has been taking quite a bit of heat because they're practically the only racing game that doesn't have tire marks. The "it doesn't matter" argument doesn't change that fact.

I don't recall anyone complaining about GT4's backfire animation. It's "pointless", too, and GT4 is the only game to have it. Doesn't mean we don't like it. In fact, there was quite a bit of hoopla on these boards when it was shown to be in the game. A lot of people quite happy about it, in fact.

Agreed, better graphics and special effects arn't something we need, but they can make a game more immersive.

skidmarks are very usefull. in Live for speed, i do like schumacher and use the tire marks left to judge where to brake if i am unfamiliar with a car/track combo.👍

if i know my car has better brakes, i brake right at or after the tire marks, and if worse i brake before.

also, smoke caused by someone locking up their tires would be a nice detail...

That's a very good point. I had thought about how funny it would be in an online race sometime in the theoretical future to start making fake braking lines, and/or doing fully 360 if you have a huge lead just to mess with the competition trying to follow your line.

BTW: Who is getting suplexed in your avatar? It looks like pride...and if it is, you might be happy to know that Fedor is fighting Mark Hunt this weekend!

Well, I completely understand that, but that said, it's not something that directly effects the way the game plays.

I, for one, can completely understand the desire for skid marks.

But I am absolutely perplexed as to why everyone makes such a fuss about reverse lights. Sure, it's stupid they aren't in there, but really, when are you EVER going in reverse? Maybe it's just because I think only "noobs" play in 3rd person camera, and I just see absolutely no reason to be upset about it.

I used to have a lot of fun with reverse in GT3, but I still don't think it matters too much. If there are going to be reverse lights, I want turn signals and hazards.

I used to drift with my friends in GT3, and I would shift to reverse during AWD drifts, making my line look incredibly weird to mess with them...and that would have been cool to be able to see the reverse lights. I actually used to have a thing i did in deep forest, on the first s curve i would get a lot of speed, slide and follow the road left, but then counter and reverse it hard, and then back to moving forward...it would just kind of look like i was floating. hopefully someday i can get all my gt3 replays online, they are a billion times more impressive than the crap i've been doing on hd

Thats josh barnett slamming yuki kondo :P
yeah this weekend is completely freaking insane :D IFL already happened yesterday, in 3 hours UFC, and then PRIDE and K1. :D

there's lots of racing techniques that people will use in gt5 that were never needed in gt4. things like controlling the pace of cars behind you. all the little mindgames that only work with living breathing people :P

I hope for skidmarks but reversing lights don't bother me (although I do want them for realistic reasons).

Reversing lights may come into play alittle bit in Multiplayer as you can see when another player throws it into reverse for whatever reason.

OK, I give up, I've been looking for the Demo for an hour and can't find it at the Playstation Store. I didn't want to look like the idiot I am by asking here but I've run out of options. Can anyone give me a clue?

Are you looking for it from the playstation store on the PS3?
If so it may be gone, it was a limited time download.

True, but if someone is in front of you, reverse or not, you'll probably get out of the way :P

ANyone got any rank updates? The highest I hit was 17 in the Cappuaccino, but I don't know if that still stands, lol.

What do you mean "looking on the PS3?" My PS3 is not yet connected to anything, were you saying that you go thru the PS3 to get the Demo? I have a sick feeling they took it down...crap!! The only disc ever in my PS 2 is Gran Turismo and I only bought the PS3 to get the GTHD demo!!!
