No one to be turned away for being too slow or too fast. Participation solely based on interest in quick clean exciting races in a format designed to capture a little of the essence of Rally racing.

SEE POST #2 in thread for scheduled races registry
SEE POST #3 in thread for results

-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------

Rules: There are a lot.
In general, drivers will follow the GTP OLR Rules
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gtplanet-online-racing-olr-rules-guidelines.111241/
Please familiarize yourself with these rules prior to the event.
More info on rules & guidelines are specified below to clarify expected track etiquette.
You are expected to race clean & fair, and to behave like sporting gentlemen at all times.
Dirty driving will not be tolerated..
Post-race penalties will be issued for rule violations, in order to preserve clean racing and fairness - you have been advised.
The in-game penalty system is switched to on. Since qualifying alone is a large part of the scoring this is done to discourage shorting of the track.
Horn beeping is forbidden. Horns have no place in a race. Please map your horn to a button you will not press inadvertently.
Text chat during races is to be restrained so as not to distract drivers still racing.
Being mean & nasty in chat is not allowed! And just really stupid, so don't do anything like that. If you feel hostile, keep your trap shut until you think to say something in a reasonable manner.
In case of any incident involving contact between drivers needs to be reported on this forum and not in chat. Note the time and location of the incident.
Report the incident privately via the forum, with details, in a timely manner (ie: soon after the race), so the incident can be reviewed.
Any overtly dirty driving should be reported immediately after the race where it happens,
so the driver may be educated, warned, reprimanded, and/or receive penalties, for the
preservation of enjoyment for all participants.
If you merely messed up, and didn't realize it, the best way to avoid poor interactions with
fellow drivers, is to accept the penalty, apologize, & chalk it up to experience & then move
on.

Most people are not too upset about some bumps, a goof up here or there, or even an
occasional spectacular race incident, so long as it's not on purpose, not often, and as long
as fairness prevails in the posted post race results.
Friends forgive race incidents & accept penalties.
Let's be friends here peeps!

Rally Specific Rules:

An event will consists of several Stages at three or more tracks using two or more specified cars.

Each Stage will consist of two Runs in which each driver will use a different car from the event list.

A Run will consist of a short qualifying session followed by a one lap race.
Each drivers best scoring run at each Stage will count towards the final standings.

Scoring:

A drivers finishing position in the qualifying session and the race is their raw score for each Run. The raw score for qualifying is multiplied by two and added to the raw score from the race. Lower is better at this point. To tabulate the final scoring we take each drivers best (lowest scoring) Run at each Stage. We then take the reciprocal and normalize so that the best possible score is a 1. This is the drivers Stage score.
The Stage scores for each Stage are then multiplied with the result renormalized to yield a best possible score of 100.

Contact:
Contact between drivers will mandate penalizing the responsible driver, with responsibility being defined below.

It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver to avoid contact. Any contact between drivers will result in the overtaking driver being penalized. The only exception is in the case of a driver reentering the track. A driver reentering the track is responsible for any contact. Penalties will be enforced regardless of circumstances.
Contact penalties consist of the responsible driver getting a raw race score equal to last plus one.

Race Director: cc570 / cc570
Race Stewards: YOU! & your fellow racers
All racers are expected to be stewards!
Save replays in case you are called upon to review an incident!

Thanks to watermelonpunch for her excellent organization which I have liberally plagarized.

Wait, what? "Dirty driving" is not allowed in a rally? Then it's not rallying! In rallying, you're supposed to get dirty. If you don't pegged in the face by a rogue pebble when Crazy Leo comes blasting past, it's not rallying.

Now, is this rallycross? With multiple cars racing side-by-side? Then, please specify. If this is a rally series, I may be interested, but I do *not* race door-to-door on gravel. I don't want to let people know my secrets. ;)

So it's not rallying?

I thought the definition of a rally was a point A -> B time trial which required a navigator for directions? I never knew that the type of road surface mattered.

Regardless, I joined in for the series testing and it was a great deal of fun, CC570 has a decent points scoring system that makes the racing pretty fair - I'd give it a shot if I was you, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

We race on dirt and snow I just said
No. Just... No.

Rallying, also known as rally racing, is a form of auto racing that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal cars. This motorsport is distinguished by running not on a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points (special stages), leaving at regular intervals from one or more start points. Rallies may be won by pure speed within the stages or alternatively by driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within the stages.

In my defense, I do state that the format only aspires to capture a little bit of the atmosphere of rally. Or something to that effect. I attempt this by having a "qualifying session that allows for 1 lap and then a one lap race. I want to make it be about driving your car as fast as you can by penalizing all contact between drivers. We races at different venues and surfaces much as a Rally has its stages. Feel free to join us. I will be opening a public room to try different cars. Anything street legal tuning prohibited comfort tires on the tarmac. I will post room number below when its open.

So, it is* door-to-door? Can you please answer that question clearly?

Because, then, the term "rallycross" may be more fitting and more accurate, and may garner the attention of the users who are looking for rallycross... And not people like me, who are looking for rally.

With that said, I'll follow the thread regardless, and decide later whether I'm in or not.

@TheKitten is running a Rallycross Championship...

This... I still have no idea what you're trying to make of this.

Rally Cross and World Rally is two different things. But its possible in GT6. If you know what you're doing. This can end up quite well. But this is more considered Rally Cross how he set it up. But I guess it wont be a quite good series because he's allowing any rallycar, which some are quicker then others. And I find it ridiculous tuning is prohibited because in Real life teams tune there cars. And he doesn't specify what cars are able to use or not. :odd:

Also fact is you're opening a room when there's no one interested. or signed up. Seems just like a Random lobby open

How would you even do a rally on gt6?

@nascarfan1400 has set up a "PTP rally championship." It's worth reading into... Because it's fun.

My sanctioning body (RACE, as my signature posts mention to) is quite happy to have @nascarfan1400 as one of its board members, because of his insight into proper rallying in GT6. @rallymorten (another board member, and the founder) ran similar events in GT5. I won one. :)

Quite, quite fun.

Post 1 explains the format and rules. Post 2 has the schedule which includes the cars we are using for that event as well as the tracks. feel free to take part or not. The racing is quick and exciting. Tuning is prohibited because I don't have the time or interest in tuning any car.

As far as whether it is closer to this or that type of real world racing concerns me not one bit TBH. GT is not real life or even close, if you are looking for something closer to real rally I suggest you try Richard Burns Rally for pc.

I agree Andrew, being sat at home with a plastic controller in the shape of a steering wheel looking at a TV is just like being sat in a car on an actual road.

With a Steering Wheel its a lot more immersive.

:odd: are you being sarcastic?

All I said - which I verified when I drove a rally stage in Northern Ontario - is that the rally physics are surprisingly realistic in GT6.

Now, with that said, I'm also posting that I will not be taking part.
