Hey,

is the GT.R Gr.4 really the best car? or is it the easy handling?
Because it looks that this car always hit the best times?

First I was thinking it depends on the course, but looks like it´s not....

What you think?

Well I saw a guy yesterday that was starting second, and he overtook me at the start because he's wheel/manual whereas I am controller/auto (sitting duck in straights and coming off corners)

On the back of his car it said "GTR is for Noobs" & I was in the GTR!

Anyway I was looking for a reason to try and tank my DR/SR as mentioned in my thread the other day so i ****ing wrecked this clown off, over and over until I got DQ.

I would highly recommend doing this for anyone thats stuck on a controller racing against the higher end wheel guys with A/S ratings, because you get sent back down to D/E and get to pick up a bunch of free poles and wins against the trash mob.

Oh, and yeah i guess the GTR is probably easier, but I mean everything is easier and faster on a wheel, so don't let the fake elitists put you off using it.

Good ol' smurfing, didn't think it would show in GT like this. Not cool dude.

Don't get the smurfing comment.

But yeah, it'll start happening a lot more tbh, you'll probably see a lot more people start tanking their DR/SR to get into the trash mob lobbies.

Because at the end of the day, if you're on a controller, you are only going to be able to get so fast before you hit a brick wall and start racing against wheels....

I'm usually about 2 seconds off the top time for the GR.4 and right now Im on a controller/auto with no TC, weak abs, and no other assists.

I started getting put in lobbies with wheel users that are on manual gears, and fast af.

Even if I switch to manual, I could only get maybe 0.5-1 second max off my current qualifying which would put me at 1:42.1 for the current GR.4 race at BEST.

Not only that, but I don't think you understand the difference in racing as a controller user against high level wheel users... While they are easing their way around the track, I'm almost breaking my thumbs, on the ragged edge trying to squeeze every bit of time out of the lap.

You think I wanna do that every race? while i'm trying to get the gold trophies?

**** that, don't hate the player hate the game, I'd rather rank my levels and then start on pole every race and cruise to victory.

I can do the competitive hardcore racing later on when i already have the trophies.

Do you not know what smurfing is?

"In multiplayer online gaming, the term "Smurf" is used to refer to an experienced player who creates a new account for the purposes of being matched against inexperienced players for easy wins."

This is basically what you're doing except you're tanking your elo to achieve this. Also "Experience" can be swapped out for "skillful/unskillful", for a little more relevance.

fair enough, I never watched the smurfed which presumably is where the original reference came from.

That's the first time in 20 years of playing games that I've ever heard the term smurfing.

But yeah I feel no shame at all for doing it, and why would I when like all simulation racers, if you want to compete at the highest level and don't have a wheel, forget about it.

More power to you I guess.

Oh and the origin is from the old Warcraft days, 15 or so years ago? 2 really good players created alternate accounts named PapaSmurf and Smurfette to play lower skilled people. Said to be because no one at their level wanted to play them.

This term is used in games that have Ranked ladders such as CS:GO, Dota 2, and League of Legends.

Am I reading this correctly that you decided to crash into this other person repeatedly to lower your score? Sorry but that is super uncool.

Anyway.. I'm seeing tons of GTRs out there which makes it a bit boring. I felt like I was faster in it compared to other cars when I used it during the Beta but I haven't used it since the full release. I hope they tweak it a little.

I've actually done Gr4 races exclusively since release, as I don't really have an interest in Gr3 or whatever is above that and the N cars are just super loose like driving on ice.

The approach I've taken so far is picking a car I like, making my livery for it, and using only that car for the duration of that track event. I used the Mustang for Suzuka, the Cayman for Dragon Trail, and now I'm using the 458 for Kyoto. I don't feel like I'm any less competitive as I usually do pretty well (or horribly if someone decides to crash into everything) its just that most of the cars around me are GTRs which is dull.

Edit: Had a decent run with this Viper. Can see at the end how laggy he got though. All over the place lol

Maybe you should try using a manual transmission. And turn off TC.

Of course you were in a GT-R.

Of course you did. Throw a temper tantrum when something isn't going your way.

Wonderful. I (we all do) hope you stay down there at D/E.

Wow, just wow. You need to find a 'safe place' somewhere. Create your own lobby and only allow GT-R's to race. Turn on all available driving aids/assists. Boot everyone who wins unless it's you. Call the room "Millennials with GT-R's"

I finally swallowed my pride yesterday and tried the Gr.4 GT-R with MINKIHL's setup. I went from a best of a 1:49.5 in my stock setup Viper to a 1:47.9 in the GT-R on Dragon Trail with BoP enabled and RH tires equipped.

Something to consider here is that this is the car used for hot lapping. In other words, let’s see what it can do when tire wear is on and the race is more than 10 laps. No awd will be competitive in endurance racing. It wears the front tires out too fast, unless the driver only races at 8/10ths. But then he isn’t running the race and not getting to use the very awd system that’s been saving his talentless ass.

I'm a little too lazy but I think it would be interesting to get screenshots of that screen when you select the car for the Group 4 race and it adjusts the stats. Get pictures of the STI and Evo and compare it to the GTR.

Is the power to weight ratio math actually off here? Is AWD just fast in general or is it something specifically about the GTR?

Investigation! 💡

WRX and Lancer have the best stat lines in gr.4 considering most tracks don’t require top speed i just got the wrx and have been impressed

Had a similar experience in the recent gr4 race. After not wanting to give in to the GTR craze, I found myself getting nowhere with my F-type, so in a moment of weakness I got a GTR, dropped 1.5 seconds off my qualifying time, and finished 2nd out of the gate with no setup adjustments. Ugh, it is good.

Try doing the opposite! I raced the dang gtr first. Then tried swapping cars. I feel like an utter failure because I can’t best my old time in the gtr with ANYTHING!

Just had my first laps with the GTR. I hate this car. Too smooth, not nervous enough, IMHO. I had better laptimes and experience with the 911 or Hurricane (my favorites) but also with almost any other car...

Its a shame you're all caving to the dark side lol But I guess in a way it further confirms how fast it can be. I looked at the official rankings for the Nations Cup today and I see the whole list is GTRs. Lame.

Makes me feel a bit better when I can beat them though. Just had someone outrun me in a Scirocco. Quick. I think I found another half second on the course for a certain section but I'm too lazy to try and post a new qualifying time. No point.

Also, my DriveHub arrived and I got it set up today. Swapped out the G29 for my old G25. Still adjusting to it.

Yeah. It's unfortunate. I have no problem winning in my Gr.4 Viper in public lobbies and some ranked races, it's just when I run into players in ranked races that are equal in skill and consistency to me that my Viper is simply just incapable of pushing out equal lap times to the GT-R. If I had an equally good setup for my Viper like I do for my GT-R then they might be closer. The AWD isn't what is making the difference in Gr.4, the GT-R just handles better.

That's weird, I've not experienced this at all. My TTS Cup and my Cayman were able to pull away from the GTR's and win a few races against A and B level drivers. I think it's just that the GTR is a little more forgiving, but the rest of the Gr.4 cars are certainly putting out laps just as fast. I got into the 1:44's with the TTS and I'm still improving too.

Well, I am referring specifically to the BoP races with hard compound tires. I can run over a second and a half quicker in my GT-R than my Viper and they both have the same horsepower.

So far it does seem that 4wd is just fast in general. You can run without TC without fear of snap oversteer, you can set the car up to be really pointy on the front and not suffer any ill consequences, and you get smooth traction out of every slow corner.

I'm in the 1.42.9XX's with my Atenza Gr.4 and there are still GTR's faster than me. Tried a GTR in practice without racing it and with the setup it has out of the box was in the low 44's like it was nothing (it took me 3-4 hours of setup work inbetween races to get the Atenza running that quickly). Get it setup properly and its in the low 42's I think.

They should add weight to the GT-R. I mean when you have one car dominating the leaderboards and is the majority car in every race there's clearly an imbalance.

Hey Wildfire, have you tried motion control aka tilt to steer on the ds4 controller? I do with sensitivity at 7 and am competitive in many of the races. A win at blue moon and a couple of 2nds at yamagi ? Give it a try, be patient and practice. Much faster than thumb sticks, and other drivers will notice as you'll be smoother on the track. My DR is B, SR is S
