GT Sport driver assists

Hi guys & girls - I just bought a G29 wheel and am trying it out in GT Sport.

At the moment I have ALL driver assists off and am struggling a bit.

Should I persevere, or are there some assists that you really have to have on?

ABS seems to be necessary unless you are playing for fun and ABS is prohibited in the lobby.

otherwise persevere, I used to dial TCS on for grid starts until I got moving, and then dialled it off.

I also used TCS to get golds on the brake tests, but I could probably go back and do them again with TCS off now.

I've noticed that when fuel save is required, it's much better to have TCS off.

It doesn't hurt to have TC and ABS on since they're available on most cars. You can use the dial to adjust TC while you're on track and the difference between 0, 1 and 2 is quite pronounced. You shouldn't need more than that, but have a play and find the level that suits you and makes you fastest. It's all good and well people boasting that they play with all assists off, but if you're spinning off and can't string together enough laps to cleanly complete a race, it's pretty pointless. The fastest laps are always the non-crashing ones!

It depends what rocks your boat, it's not boasting to say you don't use AIDS, it's just showing that you prefer enjoyment/self accomplishment over results.
The reason I got into driving games is because I want to replicate the adrenaline and feeling of driving a car on the limit.
When you know one mistake if you don't catch it could ruin your race, it just feels better. Driving around with safety nets is just plain boring, when you are doing that, you need to be trying to get the fastest times in your region or race wins to get any enjoyment.

Never use TCS set to 1 or more then 2. It should be 0 or 2 depending on car/track. Works great for me with my G29.
ABS will help a lot on max if there are a lot of slow turns and on min but not off if there are not so many turns.
Also I'm using CSA sometimes and switching it off sometimes as well 50/50 for not known reason for me, jus because I want it on or off sometimes. Don't ask me why - I do not know. Just...

Thanks for the advice - I think I'll leave CSA and ABS on the lowest settings and put TCS on 2 then see how it goes. Maybe tweak them more once I get used to the wheel.

Don't get influenced by the elitist attitude a lot of people here have about assists. They've likely been playing for years and no longer need them.

Use whatever you need to use to get some consistency. Eventually, you'll get to the point where your car control is good enough to turn off or lower assists. Turning ABS off is pretty advanced, especially in the heat of racing so I wouldn't recommend it.

This exactly. Your end goal may be to run superfast laps with no assists, but you'll struggle early on. CSA I don't really see any value in and ASM seems unnecessary most of the time, but if you start with TCS and ABS on, they will initially make you more consistently faster. When you improve to a point where you find they're actually slowing you down, holding you back more than you'd like out of corners, turn them down/off.

It's pretty difficult on most cars to run no ABS because there is no way to adjust the brake sensitivity- you're at the mercy of your pedal setup. TCS is almost a necessity on some cars as well because the pedal sensitivity spikes up at the end.

If you're going for fast laps, run whatever assists you want. I would encourage everyone to experiment around with turning assists off every once in a while though just for fun. It can be immensely rewarding to drive these cars around in their purest state (or at least as pure as PD will allow).

It used to be that the assists genuinely slowed you down in older GT games but that no longer appears to be the case, probably due to the reasons above. Who can say until they fix them though?
