Polyphony is made up of some talented people. They have to have some pretty unique skills to make a game as quirky and cantankerous and frankly weird in parts as GT5, and still sell almost 11 million copies, or more. A game which for me has some of the best and worst of the series in it, but still better than the previous versions. Why play GT4 when you could have almost all of the same tracks, all of the same cars and then some, with better physics, features and graphics? GT6, while still a flawed game, was much improved over 5.
The PS4 is proving to be much more powerful than people gave it credit, when Project CARS can run with up to 50 cars on track, just like the PC version. Because of this, I expect a lot from GT7. I believe the trailer will blow us away. Most of us anyhow. Will we have 50 cars on track? Probably not, but there should be quite a few. I'd be happy with 24 in race like Forza 6 has, so that the game can focus much of its resources on rendering a complex, realistic HD world, but the more the merrier.
Every GT game trailer has surprises in it. With GT5 Prologue, the appearance of Ferrari had everyone cheering. Every racing developer likes to show off some signature vehicle as a kind of mascot for the game, and since GT2, it has had one. GT7 will likely be no different, but what will it be? Some monster of a street car like the Mercedes SLS in GT5, or a racer like the Ford GT on the cover of GT4?
In early trailers, we saw no more than seven cars on track, and people began to wonder if Kaz had gone so overboard on the graphics and physics that GT5 might struggle to have eight cars on track at once. We flipped when a race at Suzuka had well over a dozen cars on track at once, and later we learned that it would have 16. GT Vision trailers had a lot of cars running on track at once, so 32 wouldn't surprise me this time.
Some key features will be on display, such as weather and time of day transitions. I suspect snow will be a part of that. Physics and new aero modeling will be showcased. A number of environments will be shown, from new tracks like Silverstone was for GT6 to rally courses winding through forests. Undoubtedly the new Course Maker will be shown off. Online features. Damage. New car sounds, which if they aren't pasted in will claim to be. Race Mod, Livery Editor? Yes please, and let's add to that an Event Maker. Race footage will show packed fields, giving hope that the AI will be much improved. Movie Maker should finally be possible. Some of these will be shown, some will be hinted at, some will be missing from the trailer giving us a lot to debate over. The music will rock.
And the nets will melt down from chat traffic like they always do.
