GT Sport World Tour 2020 Sydney

I won't be watching another World Tour if this is the standard moving forward. The stewards repeatedly made egregious errors in enforcing what I believed to be basic rules of racing, and errors like these in turn poison the mood of the rest of the broadcast for me, turning good racing into stuff that might as well not have even happened since the inability to run a fair competition takes precedence in my mind.
Oh get over it. You are most definitely in the minority here. This was one of the cleanest events I have seen yet and that finish tonight couldn't possibly be any better.

The finish is meaningless if prior events have convinced me to turn off the stream before the final race even started. And never assume you're in the 'majority' based on a few forum posts which do not necessarily reflect the larger population of people who watched this event.

We have just witnessed an absolutely thrilling and nail biting finish so this post doesnt go with the current mood at all. There is no context to this at the moment.

In case you didn't read page 1 of the thread, here's why the 'nail biting finish' is rendered pointless due to me leaving the stream in disgust before the final race;
Suswillo should be on the hook for at least a 4 second penalty based on the current standards of severity, yet he's let off with a slap on the wrist.
It was a slam dunk case. Suswillo rear ended Pinnell resulting in the latter going off track and ending up in the wall, an incident that would've ended his race in real life and effectively ended his chances of qualifying in game. That's a major infraction no matter which way you spin it and should've led to a swift call of 4+ seconds of penalties.

I think you should calm down.
You do realise that those words have the exact opposite effect right!? I'm already pissed off enough at how bad this event was over both days without having to deal with this BS from a forum that seems to think perfectly reasonable criticism of the stewarding process is out of line!

That was THE best race a World Tour has given us. Not just because the finish was so close but because how the mix of strategies made the race unfold the way it did and come back together in the closing laps. Really happy for Miyazono, who's had that coming since New York. He really is a master of working out the best stategy. I did feel for Latkovski as a win at the first event in Australia would have been incredibly special. Hopefully he's still on a high from how far he's come.

Commiserations to Blazsan. The CoD wouldn't be silenced even for the best in the world and denied us a 3 way finish :grumpy:

Congratulations to all who took part. If this is a sign of how the year pans out then we're in for some amazing races.

Yeah, I don't know what races others were watching, but both days had good racing from what I witnessed.

Especially, me being wide awake, having some din din in the afternoon and not watching the feed at single digit o'clock in the morning.

Oh! And the weather held out. Regardless whether the event was indoors. Safe travels to those that came over.

You’re not being perfectly reasonable though. You’re raging.

Maybe there is a discussion to be had about that specific incident, but the tone you are setting is off putting.

Crowd went absolutely wild there at the end. Man wish I could've been there.

GT FIA never disappoints.

I only found out yesterday by chance that there was a world tour event in Sydney this weekend. I'm so glad I went, it was such an amazing atmosphere, the crowd was going for a lot of the event, most of the time you couldn't hear it in the stream unless they cut to audio of the crowd. I was jumping up and down for the last 2 laps, shattered for Cody that he missed out by such a fine margin.

I really hope GT World Tour comes back to Australia next year!

Because as I touched upon earlier, the fact that Suswillo's penalty being too lenient is even being debated was and is utterly ridiculous. Now others have joined in and tried to change the narrative from me making a valid point over the severity of the stewarding error to me whinging about nothing, and this stubborn refusal to acknowledge that 'punting someone out of contention = large penalty' is a valid point has driven me to a state of anger I'm barely managing to contain. They messed up and ruined the mood for the rest of the event, the fact that the final race was great does not make up for it.

What do you suggest the penalty should have been? Keep in mind that the contact cost Pinnell 4 seconds and he finished last 5.9 seconds back from 11th.

Adam was penalised, finished 6th rather than a likely 3rd and was 5.7 seconds ahead of 7th.

The penalty meant Adam started the final in last place rather than I guess the top 6.

The penalty was a significant cost to Adam in the final. If you're saying he shouldn't have made the final at all that seems neither here nor there.

If you look at the bigger picture the penalty was extremely costly. If you make the penalty anything up to 5 seconds the outcome is likely the same.

In my eyes, it was an unintentional contact that was penalised correctly. It looked like quite a small tap that was almost avoided, but the pin ball physics of GTSport made the reaction of Pinnell's car a lot worse.

All my opinion, I know you disagree so that's cool. I actually DO see the argument that the penalty could have been bigger, but not 5 seconds bigger. That would have been overly harsh (again in my opinion).

It has to be a 4 second penalty. That was the precedent the stewards had set for major fouls the previous day, when Mercedes was penalised for the Bathurst start crash. If Suswillo still manages to cling on to 6th after being assessed the correct penalty amount of 4 seconds, I wouldn't have had a problem with him advancing to the final at all. But for him to get off with the same penalty they gave Toyota was rubbish (speaking of, Toyota didn't even touch Hyundai!)

And it doesn't really matter if the penalty nonetheless cost Suswillo positions, because it still wasn't consistent with prior decisions, and the stewards don't have the benefit of hindsight to know how many positions if any such a small penalty will cost him.

So does knowing that if the penalty WAS 4 seconds and Adam still finishes 6th make you feel any better? This kind of thing goes on in real motorsports all the time too. You're never going to agree with every decision race stewards make. I'm not saying you're not free to air those views btw, it's good to have constructive discussions around them.

With regards to the Toyota penalty, it wasn't really clear. I thought the pass was fine but that maybe the penalty was given for pushing Hyundai wide on the exit of the last turn onto the start finish straight. We didn't get a good replay of that though so hard to say. Certainly at the time I didn't think a penalty was deserved.

It doesn't, because the actual penalty wasn't 4 seconds despite being one of the most easily judgeable types of incidents you can get on a racetrack, real or virtual. Also, we have no way of knowing for sure if Suswillo actually does finish 6th in such a scenario, because it's very likely that he would've gotten tangled up in the battle for 7th (which turns into 6th) and hence lost time like the rest of that battle pack did.

Of course we can never know for certain, but when Adam serves the penalty he's 10 seconds clear of third. A bigger penalty at that point makes no difference. After his last pit stop with 2 laps to go, with a bigger penalty he arguably comes out right where Lenoir is on track. Lenoir is on very worn softs while Adam is on fresh hards. As it is Adam puts a second over Lenoir on the final lap, and Lenoir isn't fighting for position so there's a clear pace difference.

Anyway, we don't see eye to eye on this. I just don't think it's worth getting worked up over. I've seen much much worse happen with far less analysis than we've put into this one

If you really did turn off the stream because of this, you missed a real cracker.

@JayOTT In the final, Simmons lost control and hit Suswillo, completing ruining his race. Now I'm sure you can say 'karma' and all that

But, a driver lost control and ruined someone elses race. Surely by your logic, Simmons should be penalised too, but he didn't, so where's your massive rant about that?

Theses events are getting better and better! And the races, what about those freaking races!

Congrats to all involved and especially to the winners! Superbly entertaining.

There's no other racing e sports competition that looks so damn good as this one.

It's days like these that make me proud to be part of the GT community.

:gtpflag:

The racing itself was entertaining and you can tell they put a lot of effort into making a professional production.

But - I don't know why but I was hoping for more from this event. Announcements about penalty system fixes. FIA Global warming/fuel burning qualifying removal. More real cars and more tracks. Only one car announced?

I also find those redbull x cars a bit ridiculous. Seeing them race one or two times is enough for me. They might as well go the whole hog and make it a pod racer final. There are plenty of other cars they could use for these big one make races. PD should try using them.

Commentators said a couple of times that this would have been Blazsan's first podium. But I remember Hungary were champions in that cool 3 driver nation format
