How did they determine who ended up in which group? The usual rules of seeding 1-4-5-8-9 etc into the first race didn't apply this time...

And the stewards have failed us twice in two days. Suswillo should be on the hook for at least a 4 second penalty based on the current standards of severity, yet he's let off with a slap on the wrist.

I don't think he did that on purpose though. Swerved out to go around and just barely wasn't completely clear.

Intent should not be considered when assessing an incident. Only the results matter and the result was that Pinnell went from a good chance to qualify to near enough last place. That's a major infraction and should be met with a major penalty.

The actual driving from Suswillo really wasn't anything particularly dirty, and penalties should be based on the initial driving, not how it affects another driver

Disagree.

I cannot agree to disagree with you, because the idea that a punt resulting in a driver being robbed of any chance of qualifying could be considered just a minor infraction is so stupid, I can't believe you're even entertaining the idea.

I would agree with you if it was on purpose, but it clearly wasn't.

Like I said, purpose does not matter. If you accidentally cost another driver their entire race, you still cost another driver their entire race. Hence, the penalty has to fit the crime. Suswillo was not given the appropiate punishment and is now in the grand final when he shouldn't be.

Where do race incidents fit in there?

'their entire race'

He lost 5 seconds in the incident, and finished way more than 5 seconds than the Top 6

You would only be fully satisfied if Suswillo had an extra +15s penalty added on to put him just behind.

If it's clear that the victim is at least partially to blame for an incident, then the usual rules of punishment fitting the outcome need not apply. But in this case Pinnell is completely blameless, as he had left the room for Suswillo to pass and it was entirely up to the latter driver to complete said pass in a clean matter.

Well maybe you're used to NASCAR where drivers never get penalised for anything, but in the real world if you punt someone you pay a stiff price for it.

Not a lot had to go into that incident in particular though. It was a slam dunk case. Suswillo rear ended Pinnell resulting in the latter going off track and ending up in the wall, an incident that would've ended his race in real life and effectively ended his chances of qualifying in game. That's a major infraction no matter which way you spin it and should've led to a swift call of 4+ seconds of penalties.
