GT2 Is better than GT3

You all have valid points but I doubt that GT2 had 3000 polygons per ride as does GT3. That alone probably reduced the total number of cars and hence the used car lots!
I had to send in my POS2 Ooooppps, that's PS2, for repairs as it doesn't play Star Wars Starfighter anymore, even with the free disk they sent me. Now I am forced to the GT2 on PS.
This is not a bad thing since I bought the game 'green' (greatest hits) and didn't get much playing time between then and when I got my PS2 and GT3. I am revisiting the cars and the tracks and it plays just awesome. The graphics are pixelated as was stated before. But I got ALL my licenses in about a week and a half and they stuck the kiddie awards in there which I didn't like much. In GT3 I am in the process of obtaining the 'S' license, I have the Seattle, Laguna, and the final one to conquer. Thing is, the tests were a lot easier in GT2 than GT3 not the other way around. I have a used Supra and a new Mustang Cobra SVT and ALL the licenses with 3 kiddies, 4 gold a couple silver and the rest bronze all in 34 days in game time. I do think the driving techniques from GT3 had a lot to do with it. I challange you to try the same tests in GT2 and GT3 like Seattle or Laguna. You will find that GT2 is more forgiving(easier if you will), but no less rewarding! I am STILL having fun with GT2! Try it you will see what I mean. I think it is funny if you look in the rear view mirror in GT2 you will see the beaten cars magically 'appear' and 'fly' to the pavement as you round corners. Great stuff!

Here's my :2cents: on the issue:
After playing GT3 for a couple of weekends (rented a PS2 and begged on off a friend) I'd agree that the graphics in GT3 are MILES better. GT2 doesn't compare.
As for the vehicle dynamics, again GT3 has the edge. The one thing that was noticed was that unlike GT2, the cars don't squeal around every corner unless you're really cooking. As well, the stock brakes in GT3 seemed much better than GT2.
It was a little disapointing seeing the limited # of cars, and lack of used vehicles, but as was commented on in an earlier post, the development time was obviously taken up with the dynamics instead of hundereds of cars.

I also noticed that on some track the racing line seems to have changed, as well as surfaces on some tracks - for example, in GT2 Midfield raceway has pavement in the tunnel after the hairpin, but stray offline in GT3 and you hit dirt - sneaky.

I didn't get to far into the simulation, as we didn't have a memory card.

As far as I'm aware in GT2 there wasn't that little ridge in the track at Seattle, just before the right-left after the right hander at the end of the back straight. If you're not right for it, your back end gets thrown out.

The physics are more realistic in GT3. One example being the Taivon Trampio FTO in GT2. It was the best FF by miles, purely because it just had impossible grip!

question...does GT3 have test drives? I think that would be a good idea...even if it was just in like a parking lot...I want to test cars before I blow 2 million on them or whatever I do so often in GT2...

It'd be good to test drive cars. I just buy the ones I like and if I'm not the greatest at handling them I either:
a) leave it in the garage as a show car
b) get used to it
c) if i've saved my game before I buy the car, restart the Sony

I'm a believer in method c) myself, though b) works just as well. Ain't no way I'm buying a car & then just leaving it in the garage as a show car. I sometimes did that with the prize cars but more often than not those just got sold as well.

As far as the "ridge" in Seattle, that's supposed to be train tracks, maybe trolley tracks, Axletramp. They are there in GT2 but they have so little effect on the car they may as well not be. I noticed quite a difference between Seattle Circuit on 2 and then on 3 as well, myself though.

I not stupid enough to buy some real dear car, like an RUF CTR2 Sport which cost $440,000 and leave it sit there.

I only use method a for some prize cars or if it's a rare car from the used car lot like the Toyota 2000GT.

Every other time it's either b or c.

Sellin 'em works to. There's only one prize car I've kept under 300hp, the Mazda RX-7 GT-C. Only kept 'cause it looks cool. :D

1. But they look much worse.
2. U R crazy or just dumb.
3. Did you try S-8 in GT3? It took me longer to beat than all the licenses in GT2.
4. I beat GT2 in a few weeks, GT3 took me 6 months.
5. Runs faster? look at #2.

In response to Vat Man: MOST of the cars sound the same. But nothing sounds like a full turbo Mazda Demio at Redline. My kids Weird Al CD is less grating on the nerves!

Further, GT2 is still cool though it would have been harder to beat if the cars were "policed" like they are in GT3. In GT2 I have beaten all three races in the Muscle Car Cup with the RX7-GT-C with no more than suspension, tires and tranny mods. I left the power alone and used the same car to decimate the field at Trial Mtn in the 295hp limit endurance race. I usually win by a couple of laps with it. It would have been much harder to win the Muscle Car cup with a "true" muscle car.
The graphics for GT3 much better, run a replay of any race on GT3 and it looks ALMOST like real cars. GT2 looks like a really cool cartoon.
I still enjoy GT2 very much but after the third time thru the game I could get the bronze prize in all the liscense tests, including the "S" liscense in a walk. In fact the first thing I do when I start from the beginning is get all the golds for the first liscense, then complete the tests thru the IA so I can race the 30 lap race at Trial Mtn in the Spoon S2000 (bone stock). After winning there I have 150,000cr and the Denso Sard Supra (which rocks). Making that kind of cr in GT3 is much harder. :D

<- putters off to pimp out a Demio. :D

Welcome to GTPlanet, Gil! :)

Well, they got the exhaust sound right on the GT40 in GT3. It sounded like a very distant ceiling fan in GT2.

I'm still figuring out how to justify a PS2 purchase on my funds (moving and graduating soon). Maybe I can throw my PS1 down the stairs (kids, don't try this at home)....nah, I can't do that to an old friend.

So! You thought you'd bump the old dame off, didn't ya! Why? She wasn't as exciting..or sexy as the new broad...so you wanted her out of the picture. but your conscience got to ya...and that's where you trip yourself up.

:P

Nooooooo!
It was beauty that killed the beast! (Or the insurance money.)

I am personally waiting for someone to come and fix my roof! It's got a leak that formed about 2 hours ago. Gotta love apartment life.

Any minute now...just show up already!

Dude if you owned a house, YOU would be the guy who had tofigure out who to call. While you wait, There's always the GT500 race series. Maybe you'll get the Calsonics Skyline

This sounds wierd, but I already bought one! The closing date is May 20th. So I'm not all that bothered (unless the leak gets VERY bad). I'd play GT2, but the leak and the roofer are above my TV and PSX. Such is life. Instead, I'm having a Bass and typing to the masses about GT2.

Joy!

Good luck with the house and the leak. Now go move the TV and the PSX before Dark Angel or Witchblade comes on:D

Im still playing GT2, but it is on a Dreamcast And a 22" monitor at 800x600 Plus FSAA The textures is very smooth and sharp at that res. I got the Bleem $6 DReamcast(used)$20,Memorey card $5, PS1 controler free (dual shock) and VGA plus controler adaptor for $10 A nice upgrade for $41.

ACR

thanx,
i have seen a AV plug with a vga plug on the other end on the net. it came with the Linx pack sold in Japan. But It was not a box like the one for DC .I did not think the ps2 had vga outs on the AV.

GT3 is plain crap! Polyphony made a terrible mistake! 150 cars? That's nothing compared to GT2's 600+ car line-up! I pity those PS2 owners who bought GT3! I do! I do!
