Hehe. I just had a good idea.

I'm going to build myself a DS2 pad using ice lolly sticks and cellotape.

Doesn't GT4 use pressure sensitive buttons? The DS1 doesn't have those.
Only for turning, accelerator and brake, you can use the thumbsticks for thoes on the DS1.

Question: Which button do you press to use NOS, how much does it effect the speed of the car?
R1 = Nitrous

It helps out a lot for top end speed and you can zoom past a lot of cars with it on straights. Using it in lower gears will result in lots of traction loss.

same as nfsu2 where if you use it around corners you just fry your tires and spin out.
the PAL version is the best version. you can race garage cars in 2player and it has better graphics because of our TVs.
the game needs some aussie muscle cars. and some aussie porche bashers like the awesome HRT427c concept

Does anyone know if any cars will be left out of the PAL version?

I don't like the fact of using NOS in GT4... N2O can be fun for arcade games, but in a simulator...

I guess I won't use NOS. It's hard enough driving a Falken Skyline in Nürburgring, with NOS will be harder :indiff:

Yeah, the Motegi Speedway is much nicer than the one in GT3 (that one was based on Motegi, but the environment around the track was totally different). This one actually feels the way a speedway should.

I do have a question, though, one that hopefully won't be lost in the shuffle:

Can you still delete lap times from the Records? I just recently discovered this in GT3, and it'll work wonders to make sure my record book isn't chock full of a hundred records, all with the same car.

And how many times can be put in the Records now? In GT3, it was only 12, but I remember hearing GT4 would allow you many more.

I don't really know if this should be put here, General Discussion is a rather vague topic, but here goes.

I have just read the GT4 Review in PSW and am feeling a mixture of great excitement and deep disappointment. I will buy the game and I am sure I will play it for years. I still play GT3 after buying on launch day.

For me the enjoyment is all about the handling and the tuning. It is the constant quest for improvement. Sometimes I will hammer the Time Attacks, sometimes the Licences and other times just free run, but I hardly ever do races.

In GT3 I find racing utterly pointless, other than for winning prize cars. I can get no enjoyment from it. If you drive a car to match the field, you either win comfortably, because the computer cars can't go around corners at sensible speeds, or you lose because the AI barge you off the track without deviating from their groove in the track. If you go in with an underpowered car and win, then so what! I know it is more down to the AI incompetence that allows me to win, not that I have developed Senna like skills.

From what I have read and what people are saying here, this has not changed in GT4. All the great things about GT3 are even better in GT4, so of course I will love it. But why can't we have decent races. I remember watching Senna win at Monaco after Mansell had caught him in what was a much quicker car at the end of the race. Senna just kept it smooth and on the racing line. There was nothing that Mansell could do. In GT, Mansell would have just punted him into a barrier somewhere and stormed to victory.
I can't help wondering if the reason damage isn't implemented is more to do with the fact that it would be more like a stock car race, as it is just about impossible to drive a clean race unless you overpower the opposition and keep well out of the way.

Oh well, rant over. Thanks for reading, if you got this far.

By the way, PSW scored 9/10 for GT4, though the reviewer spent most of the article talking about what was wrong with it.

I can assure you thats not why damage isn't included. It's more because it couldn't be done preoperly on the PS2.

👍 Its OK, I don't really believe that. It just occurred to me that simply adding damage to what we have at the moment might be a bit messy. Bits flying off all over the place. :ouch:

Well, I could see it being a bit of a destruction derby with the AI as it is, but still damage would be nice IMO I've usually left the AI for dead anyway.

I do that sometimes, I nearly always use the the same level and class of car as the AI but I find it frustrating racing in the pack at times because like you said you brake for a corner and bang you off the track because the guy behind couldn't tell if you were there or not, also I don't like being behind AI drivers for 90% of the corners since they ususally brake way too early and screw up your lap. If PD could make them brake at the right points and corner at the right speeds and not ram you like your not there the races would be fun. I don't care how PD do it, give the AI better brakes than you can get, if it means they start to brake at the right point then that will be better.

Look guys, this is the simple truth. Everyone says that they like to have a "great race", but the truth is, we love winning a great race. Thats what Polyphony Digital is dealing with. Human beings like to win, but they don't like to feel like it is handed to them. So, yes I agree, the mindless AI drones are boring, but PD isn't going to do a damn thing about unless two things happen: 1) People realize that racing, like life, is hard, and people lose, and things fall apart, or 2) They develop an extremely (and I mean extremely) variable AI that adjusts to the player (either with player controlled sliders, or some kind of adaptive AI).
