Popped in GT4 for the first time in months, and quite suprised when I took the PD FGT around R246 without TCS/ASM.

Not like how I remember GT4 at all. All I remember is major understeer and such.

I think I might hunt down a couple more PS2 games now...I'm surprised at how a component cable can make PS2 graphics look somewhat similar to a PS3 on a SD TV! *looks for a copy of GT3*

GT4 IS my latest GT... never bothered with a PS3/ GT5 yet

maybe once they re-release the game-disc with the 50 billion patches built in i'll worry about it

i need some help , today iv started playing GT4 again and i cant do Gran Turismo Mode races with out TCS/ASM

could anyone help me ?

No. No modifications for the FGT. You can only tweak with the settings.

I would have to agree that gt4 is definitely still a fun game especially for people who dont have a ps3 and still have a ps2 (me). By the way I just got gt4 this July, its actually still selling but it was hard to find

I DO love GT5, but it just doesnt have the same..."excitement" that G4 has. GT5 has more cars and I am glad for it, but it is missing something I cant quite put into words. BUT...I know GT4 DOES have it, whatever the word is!

Do not hunt down additional games at this point. You will only dissappoint yourself when you realize that you blew an opportunity to participate in the 3? existing race series's currently being run right now. :ouch: Imagine being able to thrash SmallHorses a moderator who seems to dwell on your every written thought. :mischievous: What better way to get even than sitting atop him when the race results are posted. :gtpflag:

What GT4 lacks in graphics against GT5, it more than makes up for with excellent game-play.

Agree.. GT4 has much better sounding cars too. What on earth happened to the engine sounds? Surely PD still have access to what they used to record GT4 sounds?

I still play GT4 on PS2 whenever I get it out of mothballs. The irony is that I'm on my third PS2 which I bought new in 10/2008.

Yeah GT5 is fun mate, but without the updates it does limit it a bit...

I just finished doing some awesome rally in GT4 this arvo, man great times 👍

Gran Turismo 4 isn't dead. It's like DVD vs. Blu-Ray. One is dominant, but this, it's still not dead. It's just not as significant anymore. But not for me. Lacking a PS3, this is what I've got. It's still totally fun. Yes, it has its annoying parts like Mission 34, the 24 hour races (previously on 24...), and other things, but it's still great. It may not have 1000 cars, but many of those are duplicates and Skylines. GT4, with its 700 cars and many of them awesome (Toyota Minolta for the win!). Oh yeah, it's still fun.

Oh, and one thing. It hasn't killed my PS2 yet. I'm still on my first one, a slim I've had more well over 3 years. In the words of Professor Farnsworth, "Take that, causality!"

I got my PS2 in '03, 8 years ago!

Haven't broken it either yet!

Is it a fat or a slim? I'm not sure when they started making the slims. But yeah. This is one of the number one reasons why GT4 is still cromulent. There may be all those myths of the "fatal error" and GT4 killing your PS2, but nope. I've still got it, even with the occasional inability to read the disc, which fixes itself.

And talk about irony. That DVD/Blu-ray comparison I made earlier, I totally forgot until now that GT4 is on a DVD, and GT5 is on a Blu-ray. Wow. Talk about a good comparison.

Oh how I long for the days when I could play this game... I hate to admit it, but i never even beat the game... Or came close.

It had such an expansive career, i loved it. GT5 is too short.

My PS2 is fat as hell! It's so big and clunky, I wish I had a slim...

Really?? I didn't know that... :dunce:

Yup i still play it as well. 👍

My PS2 doesn't exactly run the best anymore, but after a few tries i'm racing with my DFGT on GT4.

Actually the fatties are way better than the slims. Yeah, they take a little while longer to start up, but they're way better ventilated and much better suited to being left on for long periods. My original fatty lasted me from 2001 until about July of this year. That included being left on for weeks on end while I completed 24hr races time & again. I think my record was about 3 1/2 weeks! (See post #4 in this thread!)
They're also much easier to fix than the slims in terms of taking them to bits to clean out dust and debris and reset the laser focus height to avoid the dreaded disk read error messages.
When my fatty died I had the choice of a refurb slimline or a refurb fatty. Based on other's experiences with longevity of slimlines, and the fact that the fatties are generally cheaper, I went with another fatty. 👍

Ah, yes. They are better ventilated, which looks so obvious when pointed out. But I bet my slim could stand an 8 hour grind. It handled a 3 hour grind, so it's all good. I guess it's just a matter of experience.

True statements there. I have left my PS2 on for days on end as well... never thought about what it would do to it. But that was when I first got GT4 and B-specced all of the endurance events! :sly:

I wonder how long my fatty will last... :)

Gt4 is still one of the best games that I have. I don't actually realize that I am playing on a 27 inch crt until I turn off the game, it just drags you in. Also I have had my ps2 for 10 years now with no problem. My friends slim burned up when they tried to leave it on for 8 hours.

I've had mine since release, when my uncle was in Germany, and sent it to my dad. From then until now, some 10 years later, that PS2 has been used and abused, from three or four 100 hour Final Fantasy X playthroughs, a Final Fantasy XII 100 hour playthrough, and many other games. I just started noticing a slower load time for the discs sometime last summer, too, so no worries of it failing anytime soon for me!
