GT4 still fun? I think so...

I pre-ordered Fourza back in September (since I have a 360, not a PS3 sadly) and just like Forza 3 there's something missing.
I tried to play GT4 again after many months but the drive failed after I used the wrong plug. :'(

There's definitely something Gran Turismo has over Forza. Graphics are irrelevant, of course, but now I won't be able to find out.

Forza has far better engine sounds though... I hope they take the time to fix that at some point.

Never played any PS3 GT game, I still play GT4.

GT4 still can get me playing for a few hours at a time. I replaced my dead old large PS2 with a slim back in March, been a trooper. But I have an LCD HD TV, graphics look meh with the standard hookups...I know it's a bit OT, anybody know of some sort of adapter cable or the sort?

Back on topic: I've played Forza 2 & 3, and it just doesn't compare to GT as far as driving physics. Sure, GT lacks the customization Forza has...but that's just a minor issue.

Yup, buy the component cable. Look it up on Google, the thing works. 👍

Thanks, brah.

OT: I'm still using the composite cable that came with my Xbox 360 and so far I think it needs a better quality one. I don't have an HDTV in my room, but there is one downstairs that I can't use. It's an old PAL CRT.

GT4 was amazing, the only things that could be better is the lighting and AA. That would be the perfect GT4.5 for me. :)

GT4's American lineup could have been better, as with a lot of the engine sounds of some of them...

For example:

2000 Chevy Camaro SS, and 2004 Pontiac GTO: BOTH have the same LS1 engine, yet...the GTO with Semi racing exhaust, PERFECT V8 rumble and roar. The Camaro? Same tone as the damn MX-5 Miata with the all three exhaust upgrades. Seriously? You can tell PD winged it with quite a few American V8 cars.

As for lineups...I was disappointed with Pontiac's mainly. Nothing truely iconic, or even from it's FWD performance lineup.

If PD just introduced a newer and better lineup of cars for GT4 as a newer version or update, GT4 could really shine again.

I personally think that none of the damn cars in this game really sound good. Especially the muscle cars; none of them sound deep and throaty ( "deepthroaty").

Even GT5 isn't very good with engine noises...

Gt4 is still one of the best games that I have. I don't actually realize that I am playing on a 27 inch crt until I turn off the game, it just drags you in. Also I have had my ps2 for 10 years now with no problem. My friends slim burned up when they tried to leave it on for 8 hours.

I have a slim ps2 and I kept it in for over 8 hours (b-specced the 24 hour endurance) and nothing happened to mines. If you have a slim ps2 don't put it flat on the ground make it stand upwards or just buy a stand for it and your ps2 wont heat up that fast.

Yep still awsome. I love the driving missions, this game has far more "challenge" to it than gt5.

Sadly, I'm coming to this same conclusion. I'm working thru GT5 very slowly (the way I went thru GT, GT2, GT3, and GT4) and have been surprised at the lack of content in A-spec mode. If a race series featured 5 tracks in
GT4, for instance, it might only feature 2 in GT5. :ill:

Some of the racing in this game is frightfully easy for me, too, so that I wind up racing a Toyota Yaris in the '90s Japanese event instead of the Integra or 240SX I used in GT4's '90s races. That isn't to say that GT5 has absolutely zero challenge it all, there is some good racing in this game, but it's not as consistent as it was in 4.

I think PD was assuming that since Seasonal races would be added to this game, it would make up for the lack of A-spec, but I'm not fooled. The gimmick with Seasonals is that you start in last place every time. This is supposed to be "challenging". Problem is ...

1. Most of these races are still walkovers unless the gamer artificially challenges himself/herself.

2. Even if you don't make 1st place, the game awards a boatload of cash + prizes. While I'll take this cash (it does come in handy since A-spec is so lacking) the entire Seasonal experience feels cheap to me and some others out there.

PD really needs to step up to what's going on with ToCA, iRacing and other more involved racing games. Add qualifying. Now add penalties. Now give us the option for car damage during Seasonals, for us and the Ai. Damage and penalties already exist in Arcade mode and during online racing, why can't they add it to Seasonals?

GT5's Online racing (non-Seasonal) is awesome, and keeps getting better and better, I just wish PD would actually focus also on the game itself, to keep gamers like myself from rolling our eyes at what should be a much more immersive experience.

GT4's method of A-spec points (as silly as it can be at times) is at least an attempt by PD to create a reason for drivers to try harder

Is it fun? Well... Graphic wise, it's no longer because I've played the GT5 quite some time but haven't played GT4 for 2 months and only yesterday I set up my PS2 and played it again - the only word is fantastic! I guess this game will never take away the smile on my face :)

I still have 2 more enduro to compete, still this career has taken me years to complete and I see it's waaaaaaay longer than GT5's. But remember though, GT5 has got those weekly or monthly online thing which they update it regularly which isn't the case with the GT4 due to the lack of online capability but damn who cares? It's still fantastic!

The add-on that made the biggest difference for me in regards to being immersed in GT4 is the Logitech G-25 wheel. I removed the pad part of the clutch pedal, and then inserted a wedge in front of it to keep it depressed and out of the way so that left foot braking is much easier.

I find the most fun (and realism) is using no driving aids and using comfort (N2) or road (N3) tires for both arcade and Gran Turismo modes.

Question: I haven't played GT5, and I have no interest in getting a PS3 at this time...are the loading times any faster for GT5?

At 62 years old, I've actually owned several of the muscle cars, a few 'Vettes and Camaros plus a 65 Mustang and it is surprising how accurate GT4 replicates the handling for these cars.

I may get a PS3 if and when GT6 is introduced and proves to be a better successor to GT4 than was GT5.

The loading time for GT5 is slower, definitely. Last time around it took me about 2 or 3 minutes to load the Nurburgring Nordschleife for some time trial.

Even though it is not that slow here, I can confirm that GT5's loading times are indeed slower than those in GT4.

Well, I've played GT5 to level 40 both a and b spec. I dont really see any reason to keep playing. However, my ps3 is the launch day model, so GT4 is now happily living back in it. Yeah, the graphics look old, but there's more to GT4.
So, wipe my old save away and start again. Last time i did it all in auto. Now i''m going to do it in manual.

I got GT1, GT3 and GT4 still for my slim PS2. what PS3? I GOT NO PS3! i'm going to stick with this old thing until it's burned up. then still going to buy me a new one. is it just me, or are the older GT games really better than the newer? only thing I dislike about GT1 is the lack of being able to save my file...

So you're saving your PS2 till it burns? Good luck with that. I've had my slim for at least three or four years, yet it still lives to this day. Yes, there has been the occasional disc unreadability and perhaps an RSoD, but it hasn't truly experienced issues. So if you keep your PS2 till it burns, you'll never get a PS3. But yes, the old games rock. GT1 and the FTO LM, good times.

I like the Cerbera more. the 4WD of the FTO LM makes the steering a bit harder. and with my current level of letting the PS2 drop by tripping over cords, I bet it's not going to last a long time n.n; but then again, I do have it for almost 5 years now... and seeing it isn't performing any less, i'm going to look for a GT2 copy

So you like the Cerbera? Oh. I've actually found the FTO easy to steer, just ake a little more effort than say, an Integra. The FTO is also more stable. But the Cerbera is great for the Hard Tuned series. Nothing like hitting 200 down High Speed Ring.

I can't save sadly. so i'm getting bored after the National A's license and decide to just keep racing from there. so no Hard Tuned series for me :( but yeah, I like the Cerbera. it's agile, fast and really easy to drift with. another one I like is the RX-7 A-Spec LM. it's just like the Cerbera only with more acceleration and less top speed. pretty handy on the more technical courses like Autumn Ring

Gt4 will always be a classic. It is still is sitting my ps2. Even sometimes when I get tired of gt5 or cod. I get my 9 year old ps2 back out hook it up and use my wheel.

I wish I could still play gt4. My ps2 refuses to load any gt4 disc, incuding 2 brand new ones I got trying to fix it. It plays everything else fine through. Weird.

could be your laser. try to carefully clean it with a soft brush and a wet piece of napkin. it should work, my dad cleaned mine a dozen of times, you can't believe how much dust it collects. and it runs much better after a cleaning, too

I recently blew-up my ps3. So I had to get my ps2 out of the box again. I bought my ps2 the day it was released in europe! Wow!

I played a little bit of GT3 and was amazed at what an astounishing game that was. Then I started GT4. I was so amazed ( I forgot how good it was) that I deleted my memorycard data and started all over again. I love it to bits.

Gt forever!!!!
