flat-out, I feel kinda ashamed to perpetuate our Challenge under these premises:
with the Lancia Delta S4 I can easily get below 1 minute at T2 (don't have a definite value, yet, as the laps are not 100% clean), while with the Renault 5 Maxi I was struggling to get anywhere close to 1'05 at T2).

Same driver (me ;)), at least 5-6 seconds difference at T2 with different cars.

As you can see the weapons are not exactly balanced :indiff:

What should we do about the Challenge?

I would just like to hear your input about it...

The Wizard.

I'm glad to see that getting an almost clean 1'04 wasn't only due to my crap driving, but also to the car I was driving. On the other hand I still haven't unlocked the S4 and I don't want to make you race in the R5.
Since the new WRS qualifier will be posted next Monday, I suggest we call it a draw and shake hands. We can soon compare our times every week with the same car and track. :)
Or you can join the Mini Cup : the car is neither italian nor french ;)

Edit :
Or we can do as Famine suggested : race in the Ford RS-200. It's neutral (english), despite its froggy face.

Yeah, I agree on the 'call it a draw and shake hands' part :D 👍

And true, we will have time for challenges once GT4 WRS is up, but it won't be Italian car + Italian driver VS French car + French driver anymore :( ;)

That was the whole idea of this Challenge... :indiff:

I don't know about the Mini, you have a lot of experience with it, and I really do not have that much time during the week to run multiple races. The WRS used to take/will take most of my GT3/GT4 play time.

I know I am not going to do too good in this WRS Warmup Race, but I will submit my first, clean, halfway decent time I can come up with, just for the sake of it...

Good luck with the Renault 👍

EDIT: Just saw your 'Edit'. That sounds like a good idea. That way we can forget about the frustration (both the Lancia and the Renault are tail-happy) and race with equal (neutral) vehicles. The Ford is really nice and keeps its line very well. It was my first choice, for this week, until I saw everybody was getting nice times with the Lancia. But, as I said above, I don't care how I rank in this race, I was just going to submit a time for the sake of it. So I say: 'Let's bring up the Challenge once again, and be the only two idiots (;)) that are going to use the Ford RS200!' 👍 :D

I may win this week w00t, I wont be improving my time though, unless i get a bit quicker with DFP. Ive seen 56.xxx T2 with DFP but it wasnt clean.

Wizard and Flat out you guys should just drive the S4 and compete with an Australian. Europe VS Australia :)

I don't stand a chance against you, Small_Fryz, and you know it :D ;)

Not on a track that's paper thin and on that oversteering b!tch that is the S4 👎

Here is some food for thought for flat-out, on the other hand:

T1: 0'33.1xx
T2: 0'59.3xx

Car: Ford RS200.
Those are the fastest splits I have seen. Not 100% clean - I have slightly brushed a wall here and there - but I didn't get help from the walls, either. If anything, they slowed me down.

I improved my previous run (which I did at the beginning of the week, same vehicle) by 2 seconds, which, at the beginning of the week, I thought would be an impossible feat to do. I know there is at least another half a second between Start and Finish, and hopefully I shall find it, before the deadline.

That is why i win, I have a psychological advantage before we even race. ;)

dont worry, im driving the same oversteering b!tch on the same paper thin track.

If you really want to hang with the div1 guys (supose that includes me) you can, 3 - 4 months ago i was a middle of the road Div2 guy. Now im rubbin shoulders with CFM, Sphinx (sometimes) and Mr P isnt that far away anymore. People i once thought were way to fast are now just a bit faster.

Hopefully once i get my DFP nailed, the gap will be even closer :sly:

I am not saying that I don't want to hang with the div1 guys

I am saying, though, that I don't like this race :D

Therefore I am not going to put that much effort into it, just enough to have a little fun. Plus the RS200 is really fun to drive, and I can push it and myself to the limits, without the frustration of it sliding around too much and hitting walls and locking tires and the list goes on and on...

Only time will speak, but, just to mention one particular race that I really enjoyed: WRS Warmup Race #2 - I ended up 6th, 0.005 seconds behind the last Division 1 racer, winning my (current) Division (2). A couple of days later, with a little more practice, and icemanshooter23's Replay, I lowered my time by another ~0.300 seconds.

I know the skills are there and I know I have improved a lot since I joined GTPlanet Community and the Online Races. Give me some more time, and I will be up there with the Pros (hopefully).

I just am not going to break my head (along with my DS2 controller and my TV screen and my PS2) for this track + the S4. They are not worth the damage :D

The Wizard.

yeah, i see what you mean.

But if you can nail a fast clean lap around this place in a S4  you have some skills. Once the results are posted, id suggest you come back and race this again with the S4 as this is a very good race to hone your skills at IMHO. Its a combo ive been driving a fair bit with my DFP, though ive come about .5 slower overall than my DS2 time though it was a dirty run (trying to get used to it) because i know if i can run a clean fast lap around this within a second of my DS2 time (which shouldnt take much longer) than i know that im set for any other track car combinations.

This is a very nice combo to quickly learn how to control the cars in gt4. It may be hard and frustrating but you will come out a faster and better driver 100% garunteed.

Nice suggestion, Dion, the Europe vs Australia challenge in an S4, but I think I'll stick to the Italia vs France in the RS-200 (though I didn't try the car yet).
We'll have some more opportunities to kick your div 1 arse in the WRS. ;)

I might give it a try with the Lancia Delta S4 (maybe a total of 10 laps, or so), just to see how I rank against you, but for the sake of my and flat-out's competition, my final lap time submission will be the time made using the RS200.

 Italia vs France in an American car :D Who would have known!?

Agreed!

EDIT: As Famine pointed out (or better, will point out, in post #72), make that:

Italia vs France in an English car :D

The Wizard.

just for the hell of it i will do some laps in the RS200 with my DFP and post my clean times in the results thread :)

I ran a few laps in the RS200 and got a best lap with T2 = 1'11. I saw no way to improve it by more than 10 seconds, unless there is a hidden shortcut on the track, so I checked the car, and I've actually been running the Ford RS200 '84, not the Ford RS200 Rally Car '85.
I still have to win this one before I can eventually put some laps on this event.

You know...I really should keep my eyes on the OLR part of this forum...I just came across this topic and I love to rally!....The only thing is comparing my section times to those I've seen so far, tells me I need to get back & do some practicing! LOL!

Though I didn't read all the pages on this topic, I started out with the Renault Maxi and really enjoyed driving it...even with the HP upped just a little bit to reflect true Group B cars from back in the day! :)

I know I'll get 'owned' in this race, but as mentioned by I think Wizard, I'm going to keep running some more test laps and sumbit a time regardless of where I'll place.

Later-

That'll be an ENGLISH car...

:embarrassed: Owned! :embarrassed:

I saw Ford, and I assumed, erroneously, American. :indiff:

Well, that's even better, it keeps the Competition European ;)

I am sorry to inform you that the only parameter that can be changed into the Settings section is Top speed. No Power and no Weight modifications are allowed.

I am telling you this now, before you waste your time going for a good lap with an 'illegal' vehicle 👍

Check the first post made by Famine, in the first page of this thread, and you will see all the rules that apply to this race.

My mistake..I used the wrong 'terminology'...as I had seen the 1st post by Famine...I have only altered the top-end speed and nothing else! :-)

Thanks! 👍 :)

No problem, I only wanted to be helpful and make sure you didn't race for nothing ;) 👍

Back on topic, here is some more food for thought for flat-out: new splits, clean lap :D

T1: 0'32.906
T2: 0'59.029

Ford RS200 (English ;))

That lap took me a long time to achieve and the funny thing about it is that all my other laps, that were not completely clean, had a T2 of 0'59.3xx/0'59.4xx at best.

When they say catching two birds with one stone :sly:

Clean lap AND best lap time so far, in one shot 👍

Bring on some times, flat-out. I am curious to see if there is still some more time to be found for this track+car combination or if this is it, for me.

The Wizard.

I won tonight both the RS200 Rally Car and the Lancia Delta S4.
Meanwhile, I raced a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evo 2 '86 which I had never seen in the game ; 449 hp compared to 'only' 345 for the '85 version !
It appears in the list on GTP, but does anyone know where to win it or when it appears ?

I only ran 2 laps at Citta in the RS200, so I'll only post a time tomorrow, sorry Wizard.

heres my story.....
I ran a frustration lap with the S4 because i couldnt stand it, running into walls riding them even. accidently saved the ghost..... it was a VERY hard lap to beat to because it was so fast, i didnt want to delete it because i wanted to push my self to race a faster clean one in the same car.

SO i go to my friends house, we run 5 laps each over and over, he BEAT my time by a sec but it was even dirtier than my fast lap. So i sit back and relax running out of time lap 5/5 and run an amazing 2 secs faster than his dirty lap putting me into the top of DIV 2 times as it looks so far.... my Ts arnt immpresive but i got thru the hairpin after T2 so smoothly i almost ran wide open the whole way up to the finish. I hope i win 4 straight in DIV 3 and hope to be DIV 2 after the new qualy.

T1- 32.876
T2- 58.013
This really amazed me because i am the biggest failure at tight courses.

I ran 6 laps in the RS200, none of them is submittable (from big front crash to small wall brushes), and the best T times I saw were :
T1 = 34.0
T2 = 1'01.2
I'll keep on practising but I'm not certain I can submit, since having a both fast and clean lap seems to depend more on luck than on my skill.

I can agree on that, but once you have done 30+ laps the skills start to show :D and the luck is not much more of an issue.

I have seen T2's of 0'58.6xx, after tons of practice...

It takes forever to get the first clean laps rolling, but then, once you have gotten them, you build up confidence and you are less nervous (knowing that you have already at least one cat in the sack).

Good luck to you 👍

Going to bed - 3 AM :indiff:

Hi everyone 👍

Got back from our hols yesterday and hopefully will be back to racing in the next few days ... I missed racing whilst I was cooking in the sun .... how sad am I eh?

Good to be back anyway and great to see lots of activity in the forum :) 👍

Laters all
Ron.

hey Mr P, glad to have you back 👍.

Ive been waiting for you to come and annihilate my times, and i can see you there CFM (browsing the thread) have you come to beat my time also?

How was your holiday Ron?

Thanks mate :) the holiday was fine although the cost of living was very expensive :scared: ... but it was still great to see such brilliant weather 👍

not been back on GT4 since I got back yet as we have a massive chore cleaning up the house which looks like a bomb site :ouch: my dad was never one for the cleaning chores :dopey:

I will no doubt get back on GT4 tonight or asap and see what you have been up to on the database and maybe make you work some more if i'm lucky ;)

Good to be back

my times at the database arnt too flash, just good enought to gold then move on the next one so you shouldnt have much difficuilty beatin me there.

But the WRS is a different story, with a bit of luck and a DFP by my side (see GT4 with the WRS for pics) im hoping to make you work for the extra tenths:D.

Thats the plan anyway, not sure if its gonna pan out that way though, probably more like you making me work  ;)

Yeah, I guess that's the only thing to do.
I had checked this list of yours before posting my question, I should have double checked.
I'll stay in the RS-200 anyway.

Edit :
I just checked the first post and saw the tyres : any part. I've been trying soft tyres so far, I'll be using super softs tonight, that should save an easy 0.5 on my best lap.

Edit 2 :
Ran 6 laps with super softs and saw a clean 59.4, but I wasted it in the last chicane.
Still far from having a clean lap to submit :grumpy:

i hope many of you still sumbit a time with the qualifier coming and all....

Small_Fryz
T1: 31.366
T2: 56.691

Submitted,

Never practised any more after that, i did with DFP but i never got close to a clean lap

I am going to have to submit. Time is not as good as I wanted it to be, but University dictates me to submit now, as I won't be back home until later tonight, way past the submission deadline.

I didn't further improve my time, of which I already posted the splits.

Thanks Famine, for keeping us busy while Kent was away 👍

I hope to see you in the WRS - you better hop in your BMW M3 and start lapping around Infineon Raceway - Sports Car Course (good memories, there ;)): GT4 Weekly Race Series Qualification is up!
