GT4 vs LFS??

It is not exactly a world record! How can you ever know if that "world record" time is the fastest on the face of the planet Earth, eh?

computers are not real?

in reality you need someone like the FIA to be around to assure that someone does a world record.

in LFS we have got the hot lap vality check that takes acre of this and a replay is saved to make sure nobody cheats.
that allows a driver to drive a really existing virtual LFS car around a really existing virtual LFS track and do a world record.

I don't see the fuss. Vladamir was making a point about how it feels when you achieve things in LFS, you're taking it way off in another direction. And no most players including me don't post their times, but they do check up on the leaderboards and notice that their times are a few seconds behind the best. If I ever achieved a record time I'd be damned sure I submitted it.

anyone gunning for the fastest time has submitted theirs. or it shows up on their fastest lap (racing) how do you know who submits their times? :dunce:

NSX-R
What am I saying is that you cannot get THE best times because there aren't many people who submit their times!
whats your point?

in reality only 22 people get the chance to set a laprecord in an F1 car around a grand prix track.

in LFS, 118 people have already submitted their personal best in the formula 3000 car round blackwood track.

if someone decides not to take part in hotlapping or not to upload as fast lap, because he is 2 secs slower anyway, it does not mean there is no laprecord.

is the 100 meter sprint time of 9,77 not a record, just because i have never tried it?

and bear in mind that LFS is only out for 2 weeks...

After playing S2 alpha demo for a week now, i have to say, that i am truly amazed!! It really is something special.. For some reason, hot lapping feels much better in LFS than in GT4, i really feel more satisfied and fullfilled when i do a good lap in LFS.. We had a racing weekend, 20 of us, from Serbia, and IT WAS GREAT, such an adrenaline rush, such a great fun!! ONLINE is so great, and it is such a waste GT4 don't have it..
We drove GTI, and car is great, haven't even tried XR and XR turbo, because i was too busy hotlaping the GTI, and skinning it..
BTW, here's my comeback skin for LFS, because i haven't skined for a while(a year, or so)..
Just put you car to be all white, to be able to see my skin properly, and put XFG_interior1.dds in LFS/Data/DDS folder, but backup your original file first..
Hope you like the skin..

There is nothing left for me to say about physics.. But the graphics in lfs, I think that they are really great, but to experience them at best you need proper hardware. Try playing it on 19" LCD on 1280x1024 resolution with 8x aa and 16x aniso and with all details maxed out ingame :) It looks great in motion, here are some pics:

- Impressive Lightning
- Nice smoke
- Skid Marks
- 3D Rims
- and so on.

:)

Someone mentioned one true thing earlier(in my opinion), that GT4 seems to recreate the weight shifts of the car at least a bit more forcefully than LFS.

I love GT, always have, but ive been playing the LFS S2 demo for about a week now, driving two cars, and have been on the same course the whole time. Oh and the car park. The physics are more realistic. Having never played the game before, i was able to instantly get 'Quick' times in the training sessions in the FF car, because it's very similar to the car i drive in real life, except slightly more powerful. Admittedly i havn't driven the FF cars as much in GT4, but that must in itself be a reflection on the game.

The tuning options are also great in LFS, changing tyre pressures for example, and also camber angles and the fact that they show the actual real camber angle with the force of the car acting on the wheels. Changing fuel load changes the weight of the car, fuel consumption varies with driving style, the change in weight thus lowers or raises the car on the suspension, as does stiffening the suspension etc. It's just, better.
Oh and the stupid things that come from being non the PC and so having a keyboard, i.e i can put it in neutral, put the handbrake on, switch off the engine and put my hazard lights on if i fancy pulling over for a chat with a fellow racer. Yes it is stupid, but that is realism also. I can indicate, flash my headlights, change the sound of my horn. Simple things like that.

I never really cared about online play, but having sampled it with LFS, i'm loving it. Going side by side with another human being corner after corner in an identical car is more satisfying from a driving perspective than any race in GT4.

Drifting actually seemed far harder in GT4(or i've just gotten used to it on GT4 and so could adapt to LFS more quickly) but it feels better on LFS in every way except for the weight shift, where i must say GT4 beats it. ( And yes im using a DFP with all feedback set at 150% )

Basically, since having the S2 demo, i havn't touched GT4. My opinion is that yes, GT4 is a better game, and the physics are great, especially weight shift, but for raw racing and most other physics aspects, LFS is ahead.

Response from Boris:

So if there are less programers on the game, lower budget, that means it's better then if there are 100 programers and alot of money...?? WHY??
We are not talking about EA games here.. PD and SONY are serious companies.. and if you know what you are doing then alot of money and alot of programers can be VERY HELPFULL..

Boris doesn't understand sarcasm. Isn't it great? Laugh heartily as he unknowingly humiliates himself. Unless he is bluffing, in which case, im the one humiliating myself. But either way, we all get a good laugh.

wow, another one converted. :)

in the logitech profiler software, try setting only the first of the three forces sliders to any force, put the other two on 0%. this is recommended by scawen, it might improve force feedback a bit.

oh really? Ok, ill look into it. I find that when going straight the wheel tends to twitch a lot, but as soon as any minor turning force is applied(even half a degree) it stops, so hopefully that will fix it. Thanks.

the twitching can also be caused by something else. there are so many options to set up the wheel...

its important that the "wheel turn" setting matches that of the logitech software. i have then set "wheel turn compensation" fully to the right and "analogue steer smooth" under "misc" fully to the left.
but everyone has to experiment a little to find the perfect personal setup. ;)

I've found the DFP works really well on my PC with no hassle, on my PS2 playing GT4 it's unbearable, I can't drive in a straight line AT ALL the wheels just turning left and right violently as not even insane speeds and witht he FF set to low, on the PC it's perfectly fine but I've stopped using it in GT4 now cos it's just not fun.

@letdown427: Actually I was having thoughts about putting something like this in my sig:

"If something you read in this post sounds really stupid to you, here's a hint that might help you not posting something really stupd in reply: Useful dictionary link. :)"

:D

What are the sliders names? I have DF (not pro) and the three I have are overall, spring and damper effect force (I have centering spring in the bottom of the screen too, but it's currently desactivated). Or does that apply only to the DFP?

the sliders are the same, first overal, then spring, then damper, then centering and an additional slider for the degrees of rotation.

@jpmontoya: That's nice, very nice. Do you play LFS S2 or the Demo version or....? What's your online name?

S2, of course! :)

I'm with the CoRe Racing team (www.coreracing.net) My lfs name is CoRe Carl 078. I've seen a JPM online a few times, but that's not me. I'll change my name here soon anyway.

Like every other online sim I play, my driving is good but I can't setup my cars for the life of me. I can set them up well enough to hammer the AI in LFS and GTR and GT4 but I've never been able to fine tweak them like many can so I'm always a middle runner in LFS and GTR when I race online.

I'm a middle runner and suck at doing setups too. I can easily make a setup to oversteer/understeer more, but achieving a well balanced setup is quite hard, especially on some cars such as the UFR, which i'm starting to hate on some tracks. I usually take a setup from someone fast, and then tweak it to my liking.

I have a lot of issues with tires on long races too.

At least the battles in the middle of the pack can be as frantic as the ones at the front. I'm gonna have to get my PC sorted so I can get back to gaming online. I need to re-format my hard drive, which remids me, I need to check how to get LFS back when I o without buyin it again.

at least the full version doesn't have the FWD noobs who have no regards for other drivers like the demo.

i swear, there's ALWAYS one hitting me at some point. ESPECIALLY in the first curve of blackwood.

That's far from limited to FWD drivers... the quality of driving improves a lot with a licensed S2, since you get rid of 99% of intentional or careless wreckers.

There are still quite a bit of wrecks on the first turn in crowded races, since people are still learning new tracks and cars. You can have a bit of lag once in a while, when cars are tightly packed, so that doesn't help either. Most of the races are very clean though.

It's great to hear that some GT4 players are moving on to Live For Speed, not because GT4 is completely lacking, but Live For Speed is a breath of fresh air. I agree that GT4 is a great game, if not one of the best 'racing' games I've playedin a while, but it's lack of structured online racing, odd physics at times and very poor A.I greatly reduce it's life span. By the way, to those who are playing Live For Speed, what is you're fastest Turbo speed on Blackwood - Forward?

that should not be dificult. just install LFS again, unlock S2 with your name and password and thats it!? :)

it's a server i used to go to often. then i got fed up and left for different servers. hell, DRIFTING servers had cleaner racing than these guys.

not to mention they don't even stick to the road and cut through the dirt which is complete bull because the RWD's ridiculous lack of grip makes keeping up impossible.

I won't have to files to re-install LFS though, I can't back anything up, not much other than Firefox works on my PC right now, my CD-R software doesn't work and I can't set up a network. I might just buy it again.

I too struggle to set up a car, and having only the demo, the racing can vary a lot. I find the best way is to brake very early for the first turn at blackwood let all the n00bs fly ahead into each other then overtake them through the chicane and onto the straight after they've crashed. Also very satisfying going from 9th to second over a lap. lol. My PB is 1:35.16 in the GTi on Blackwood, but I've seen 1:32's. Which baffles me. lol. In a vain attempt to stay on topic and justify this post, GT4 also is more realistsic in terms of what happens when you go over a rumble strip, i.e you feel it in the wheel. It may well jsut be my FF setup being incorrect, but i find my DFP seems to ignore that i've bounced onto a curb.
