flat-out
I've just noticed that I have another week to practise.
I raced for an hour yesterday, but couldn't run a clean entire race, and I was disappointed not to have anything to submit.
I'm still starting on rear hard / front medium, pitting after 6 laps, and finishing on rear medium / front soft.
Best lap so far (hard/medium) : 1'52.080, and a best first lap at 1'55.7xx

I race med/soft for th whole race, pitting after lap 5,

So, here's a quick and dirty poll on tire stagger and driving style...

Who of you out there tends to wear fronts faster than rears?
Rears faster than fronts?

Reason I ask is that my teammate runs softer front tires than rear, whereas my front tires even on matched tire go first and there ain't no WAY I can go softer up front.

??

Also, any tips on tire/anger management to preserve grip and extend time to evil orange?

Started to get the hang of the track now. If you can hold your nerve on 130R and just lift slightly, judge the turn in point just right (always seems to be earlier than I think) and get straight back on the gas you can go through there at c.265km/h (at least on softs) - I think that saved me at least .5 each lap. It's also damned good fun - nearly as good as Eau Rouge (but not quite) 👍

I opted for the faster tyres on a shorter first stint (S/S pit L4) and settling down into consistency for the last last 6 laps (M/M). Putting harder tyres on the rear to counter understeer doesn't really seem to benefit my times but I might have another go at that this evening.

I've got AI on -5 with RM tyres so that most of them pit just as I'm coming up to lap them (about lap 6-7 I think). I had to pass two but they didn't get in my way too much.

Fastest lap: 1'47.851 (S/S)
The rest: c.1'48.xxx (S/S) - c.1'50-51.xxx (M/M)

Personally I'm pitting every lap ... I keep spilling my Long Island Tea all over my lap and need a refill.

Glad to hear that you are finding the pit entrance ok now at least, instaed of driving around with an empty glass! :dopey:

My tires are wearing faster in the front as well.
And I am using the same tire compound all the way around.

Tried running mediums all round and laptimes suffered, also had to make changes to the AI setting to compensate for the lack of grip/TCS system off the line.

So going back to:

med front/soft rear
Full tune
AI set to +7
AI tyres medium

Pit at lap 6 ( some tyre conservation needed to get rears to last )
Switch to soft/soft for the last 4 laps and smoke 'em to get overall time down and fastest lap in!

Also it's a 24 point race! lol

Oh yeah! And i am burnin fronts faster than rears too

got myself a 1'44.904 fastest lap on SOFTS ( not my current race lap )

just took off 4 whole seconds from my last race, think this is the winning time i just got

heres a quick run through of a lap with hOt6o4bOi

k
320km top speed
softs to start
for the start
i put the blue accel. bar
just under the middle line
then keep it there to around 70km to 2nd
then so on
and i pass all the cars a car length b4 the white pit line
i dont touch it
then go into first corner from 5th
to 4th
touching the inside curbs
then out wide to the outside curbs down to 3rd
then light on the throttle till im safe to use all the rumbles
then for the left coming up
u need to go right over the inside curbs
you dont wanna miss em, because it gives you a good run for the next right
then for the right slow in
4th to 3rd
then wide entry
for the fast long left
going out to the rumbles on the right
for the fast right
i dont even kno my braking point
its a guess every lap i do it
its just feel
i stay in 4th
for the right
at the bottom
then for the hairpin
i start braking
right at the end of the rumbles on the right
then for the double apex left
i brake early enough, so i can go over the rumbles on the inside
then stay in 4th
till i get to the 2nd left
and i shift to 3rd for a quick rotation of the car
back into 4th
down to 130R where i take it around 160ish sometimes faster
then i brake right at the beggining of pitlane to the right
for the chicane
slow in
fast out
then thats a lap

I dusted off the ol' Z. Haven't ran any laps since wednesday. Good thing this is a double week. Still getting frustrated as hell. I can't even do half the race laps without going off at some point.

Still getting laps of 1:53.xxx
Total race time: Infinity :grumpy:

Thanks hOt6o4 for the lap description, however it took me a few times reading it to realize that you skipped directly from the Denger curves to the double apex left prior to the long straight to 130R. I guess the sweeper right to the slow 2nd gear hairpin is pretty simple though...

I kept thinking "how the heck does he take that hairpin in 4th then 3rd?" until I realized what was going on.

Lap writeups are always helpful regardless!!

hOt6o4bOi
well just to add to the description then
i do take the hairpin in 3rd~

I'll have to try that. I like the drive out of the corner in 2nd but since I really can't gain any oversteer using 2nd, maybe 3rd and one less shift could work for me.

Amazing that you use third and 330kph and I use 2nd and 310! (Though is that third and RS/RS tires or does it matter?...)

Thanks!

-Scott

I had been taking the hairpin in 2nd as well, but have since gone to 3rd, sometimes I'll just drop to 2nd quick to help turn the car, then back to 3rd for the rest of the way out. Glad to see I'm running pretty much the same as you hOt6o4, had you tried to run all of spoon (double apex) in 4th, or do you think it's quicker with the quick drop to 3rd? I've been alternating between laps, but usually make a mistake some where and haven't been able to tell. And damn, don't know how you're holding 130R at 160, haven't been able to break 150 really without running wide. Sick lap tho getting down to 44's 👍 ....

It is obvious to me that hOt6o4bOi is not using TCS. Is anyone else using it?

I've been using TCS for the sole purpose of the launch at the start. The couple times i didn't have TCS on for the launch i couldn't pass the AI cars before the first turn so i slapped on TCS ever since. But i have lots of time this weekend to get my launch down and hopefully i'll improve a few seconds without using the aid. I've seem to hit a wall using TCS as I haven't seen improvement on my laps.

I started out with TCS for launch purposes as well but after reading hotboi's post earlier I have been experimenting launching w/o it. I realize now that I probably shouldn't have turned it on in the first place.

With some practice I have been able to get to the first turn almost as fast as I was when I was using TCS.

BTW Thanks for the description hotboi.

Well, thats it for me. I am done for the week. I am not satisfied with my time but I have also run out of patience. Top 15 in Div 3 will be fine for me.

Fastest lap- 1'48.313
Opening lap- 1'52.863

RS/RM - front, rear. Top speed - 330 , DS2, Third division.

Good luck SHig Speed.

i wonder for the guys who have been gettin rear wheels wearing out b4 the fronts

what kinda driving style they have?!

I think I started the tire wear discussion inadvertently, but I never said my rears wore more than my fronts, they wear at the same rate.

I've figured out why this car is such a dog, well partly, I can't believe I didn't think of it until now. With the added 100-odd horses (power +20%) the suspension tuning is all outta wack, which would explain the unpredictability of the car. The stock version of this car is much nicer to drive (as I rapidly discovered when I forgot to adjust power and weight yesterday).

I've put in two solid sessions now and I simply cannot run a clean race. To put us at one of the most technical circuits in the world (and one of my favorites) in a barge like this is sacrilege, it almost makes me hate this beautiful track :irked: To make matters worse, I'm having to run with TCS on for launch control and to iron out some of the twitchiness of the car. Disallowing AI contact is fine, but hotlap OLR rules for 10 laps in this b**ch is insane! If I'd typed this up last night after my run I would probably have quit this week there and then, but I'll give it another go for the sake of my teammate.

Okay, rant over, sorry I needed to get that off my chest :grumpy:

I was able to get a decent launch w/o TCS (330km, RM/RS, AI -7) if I start in 3rd and feather the throttle from the start. With that I was able to pass the cars before turn 1 and managed a 1'51.xxx first lap. But then like everyone else, I either slid off the kitty box or got smashed by dumbass AI's. 🤬

Get on the stick, buddy! I have been able to hold down 160 pretty consistently on soft and medium tires. I think 167 was the highest I saw without running wide on softs. You have to lift just a tad before the apex, and I turn the car in full-lock, and the turn-in point has to be just right otherwise you go off.

Just FYI, if you run the Super Softs you don't even have to lift :)

1'44's?
No TCS?
No lifting for 130R?
1'51 first lap?

I give up.
I managed a 1'46, with TCS, and i lifted for the 130R, and my first lap has never been lower than 1'53.

I spose i know nothing about this racing lark anymore.

Humph.

:grumpy:👍

hehe finally got my 1st 10 clean lap race in ... yeah, what a mission that was, but once one has it down you can relax a bit ... even though the time is probably slow.

Been doing the 1st 6 laps on RM's and then 4 laps on RS, best lap is a 1:49,2 , but 1st lap was a 1:53.9 I think ...

Only saw 2 AI cars though, but one was right in front of me going into the pits, so I had to slow down, probably lost like 5 seconds overall ...

Tell you what my biggest problem this race is, consistancy!

I can do good/great opening laps, laps 2-5 are consistantly within my targets, then on lap 6 my brain goes for a wander around the garden with the rabbits and tweety-birds!
It's like i turn into Homer, do de do da doooo! D'Oh!

The best of it is, i started thinking about writing this post, during the start of lap 6 and ran off in the middle of the 'spoon corners' :ouch:

Can do good fast laps on soft's 1:47.5xx ish, so that's not too bad , just wish i could stop my mind wandering off
